Panatus forte is a medicine with a central effect to eliminate cough symptoms. It can help prevent the development of irritating dry cough. In addition, it also helps to reduce the tension of the bronchial muscles and promotes expectoration - this makes breathing easier and relieves chest pain.

Indications Panatus forte

Indications include: dry cough of any origin (including pre- and postoperative stages, as well as bronchoscopy or surgery), and whooping cough.

Release form

Available in tablets (50 mg) or syrup (200 ml). There are 10 tablets on a blister plate, one package contains 1 blister. Syrup in a glass bottle (closed with a plastic stopper, has a lid with 1st opening control). One pack contains 1 bottle together with a special dosing spoon.

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of the drug is butamirate - an antitussive substance with a central method of action on the body. It does not belong to the category of opiates. Among its properties, in addition to antitussive, are also moderate anti-inflammatory, expectorant, and at the same time bronchodilating.

Pharmacokinetics

Butamirate is completely and fairly quickly absorbed after oral administration. The substance reaches its peak plasma concentration 1 hour after taking the drug. The half-life is 6 hours. After a repeated course of taking the drug, the concentration of the active substance in the blood remains linear, and no accumulation of butamirate is observed.

Butamirate is metabolized by hydrolysis to 2-phenylbutyric acid and diethylamino-ethoxy-ethanol. These breakdown products also have antitussive properties.

Butamirate together with its decay products has a practically maximum (approximately 95%) binding rate with plasma proteins – this explains the long period of their half-life, as well as the long antitussive effect on the body. The substance is excreted mainly through the kidneys.
