Medizol is an anthelmintic drug. It is used to eliminate nematodoses.

Indications Medisol

It is used as a therapeutic agent for tissue and cavity helminthiases, as well as for myiasis and other parasitic infestations of a casuistic nature.

Release form

The drug is released in the form of chewable tablets with a volume of 0.2 or 0.4 g.

Pharmacodynamics

Albendazole is a highly effective drug that helps fight poly- and mono-invasions; high doses of the drug allow treating hydatid pathologies.

The active component of the drug has ovicidal, larvicidal and vermicidal properties (destroys both larvae with eggs and adult parasites). The drug demonstrates high therapeutic efficacy with single or repeated use, helping to treat diseases that can be caused by the activity of migrating helminthic larvae transmitted to humans from animals (for example, during the development of toxocariasis).

In people with echinococcosis or multilocular echinococcosis, it is prescribed as primary therapy for lesions of an inoperable nature, and also as an adjuvant to prevent the need for a surgical procedure.

Pharmacokinetics

Albendazole is poorly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, but actively participates in the 1st phase of metabolism. The plasma Cmax values of the main metabolic product (albendazole sulfoxide) are within 0.22-0.25 mg/l and are recorded after 2-3 hours from the moment of drug administration. The new dosage has a plasma half-life of 8.5 hours. This metabolic product has an anthelmintic effect and is excreted (as well as other metabolites) with urine.

Dosing and administration

In case of infection (an adult and a child over 2 years of age) with ascariasis, trichuriasis, enterobiasis, and also ancylostomiasis, a single dose of 0.4 g of the drug is usually prescribed. The tablets taken must be chewed thoroughly.

The daily dose for a child under 2 years of age is calculated at 6 mg/kg.

For anguillulosis, taeniasis or dibotriocephalosis, 0.4 g of the medication is used once a day for 3 days.

During the treatment period, there is no need to carry out special measures (such as enemas, fasting and taking laxatives).

Therapy in case of tissue helminthiasis (trichinosis, echinococcosis or toxocariasis) is carried out in a hospital according to a scheme that is individually selected for the patient by a doctor.

Albendazole has been tested in children under 2 years of age and a dose of 0.2 g has been shown to be effective in treating common helminthic infestations.

Portion sizes for different diseases:

  • Ancylostomiasis – single use of 0.4 g of the drug per day;
  • ascariasis – single dose of 0.4 g of the drug per day;
  • enterobiasis – single use of 0.4 mg of the drug per day;
  • trichuriasis – single use of 0.4 g per day (additional dosages may be prescribed);
  • anguillulosis - taking 0.4 g of the drug once a day for 3 days in a row. In some cases, it is necessary to use increased portions. If larvae are present in the feces 3 weeks after the end of therapy, the treatment should be repeated;
  • dibotriocephalosis or teniasis - 1 dose per day of 0.4 g of the drug for 3 days in a row;
  • hymenolepiasis – 1-time use of 0.4 g of the drug per day. The cycle lasts 3 days;
  • opisthorchiasis - 2 times a day, 0.4 g of the drug. The course lasts for 3-7 days;
  • capillariasis - 2-time use of 0.4 g of the drug per day. The entire cycle lasts within 10-20 days;
  • subcutaneous larvae - 1-time use of 0.4 g of the drug per day for 3-5 days. Sometimes a 1-time dose of 0.4 g of Medizol is enough to eliminate the disease;
  • hydatid pathology (alveococcosis or echinococcosis) - twice a day 0.4 g of the drug (adult) or 10-15 mg/kg (child). The drug should be taken in 28-day courses, observing 2-week intervals between them. Often, 3 such courses are enough, but in some cases 10-12 cycles are required;
  • Cysticercosis – use of 15 mg/kg of the drug 3 times a day for 8 days. If necessary, the course can be extended to 30 days;
  • toxocariasis - taking 0.4 g of the drug 2 times a day for 10 days. Children need to take 10 mg/kg. Often such treatment consists of 3 cycles, but sometimes 10-12 are required;
  • trichinosis – use of 0.2 g of the substance 2 times a day for 7-10 days.
