Latren is a medicine that helps improve microcirculation processes, as well as the rheological characteristics of the blood.

Indications Latrhena

It is used to eliminate disorders of peripheral blood flow, diabetic neuropathy, syndrome, as well as Raynaud's disease, intermittent claudication, and also obliterating endarteritis. The medicine is also used for tissue trophic disorders.

The drug is prescribed in combination with other drugs to eliminate gangrene, varicose veins, post-thrombophlebitic syndrome, trophic ulcers, and frostbite.

Latren is also used for cerebral circulatory disorders, ischemic stroke, DEP, and in addition to this, atherosclerosis in the area of the cerebral vessels, against the background of which dizziness with headaches, memory and sleep problems develop.

At the same time, the drug is used to eliminate blood flow disorders within the vascular membrane in the area of the retina and eye, and in addition to this, to treat degenerative changes, during which hearing gradually weakens (this occurs due to disease of the blood vessels of the inner ear).

Release form

It is released as an infusion solution in 100, 200 or 400 ml bottles.

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of the drug is the element pentoxifylline, which is included in the category of purines as a peripheral vasodilator. The drug removes smooth muscle spasms inside the bronchi with blood vessels, as well as other internal organs. It also slows down phosphodiesterase and helps to increase the amount of cyclic 3,5-AMP inside smooth muscle vascular cells and platelets. The use of the drug increases the amount of ATP inside erythrocytes, and at the same time increases the energy potential of the cell.

Latren helps to relax smooth vascular muscles and reduce total vascular resistance of the peripheral type (without significantly changing heart rate indicators), and in addition to this, increase blood volume (systolic and minute).

The drug has antianginal properties due to relaxation of smooth muscles in the coronary arteries.

The drug helps to saturate the blood with oxygen by expanding the pulmonary vessels and toning the respiratory muscles (intercostal muscles and diaphragm), and at the same time it potentiates collateral blood flow and increases the volume of blood flowing to tissues and organs.

Latren has a positive effect on the bioelectric function of the central nervous system and helps to increase the level of ATP inside brain cells.

By affecting the characteristics of the erythrocyte membrane, the drug increases its elasticity. Leads to thrombocytic disaggregation and helps reduce blood viscosity.

Increased collateral blood flow improves microcirculation within ischemic areas.

During the treatment of intermittent claudication (lesion in the area of peripheral arteries of the occlusive type), the substance pentoxifylline increases the walking distance, eliminates cramps in the area of the calf muscles that occur at night and prevents the development of pain in a calm state.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug undergoes almost complete metabolism, resulting in the formation of 5 decay products (including pharmacoactive ones).

The excretion of the substance occurs mainly through the kidneys - in the form of decay products. The half-life of pentoxifylline together with its metabolites is about 0.5-1.5 hours. If the patient has problems with the liver/kidney function, the half-life may be extended.

Dosing and administration

Latren solution must be administered intravenously. The dose is determined by the doctor, taking into account the patient's weight, as well as his tolerance of treatment and the severity of circulatory disorders.

For adults and adolescents over 12 years of age, intravenous infusion is performed according to the following scheme: 200 ml of solution must be administered intravenously by drip method over 90-180 minutes. If good tolerance of the drug is detected, an increase in dosage is allowed - intravenous infusion of 400-500 ml of solution by jet method.

The average therapeutic course often lasts about 5-7 days. A more precise figure depends on the clinical picture. Then the patient can be transferred to the oral form of the drug.

No more than 300 mg of the drug can be administered per day.

It is also possible to use the solution for therapy in children under 12 years of age, as well as newborns. In this case, the dosage is calculated taking into account the child's weight. Children under 12 years of age are usually prescribed a solution of 10 ml/kg (5 mg of the drug).

Use Latrhena during pregnancy

It is prohibited to use Latren during lactation or pregnancy.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

  • the patient has hypersensitivity to any element of the drug, as well as to xanthine derivatives;
  • use for the treatment of people with porphyria, acute myocardial infarction, as well as hemorrhagic stroke, hemorrhage in the retinal region and severe atherosclerosis in the coronary or cerebral vessels;
  • use in people with arrhythmia, liver/kidney failure, uncontrolled decrease in blood pressure and heavy bleeding.

Caution is required when used by people with heart failure, diabetes mellitus and peptic ulcers in the gastrointestinal tract. In addition, it is prescribed with caution to the elderly and those who have recently undergone surgery (hematocrit and hemoglobin levels must be regularly monitored).

Side effects Latrhena

Using the solution may cause the following side effects:

  • disorders of the nervous system: sleep problems, dizziness, convulsions, headaches and a feeling of unreasonable anxiety. Aseptic meningitis is observed sporadically;
  • damage to the hematopoietic system and cardiovascular system: skin hyperemia on the face, as well as the upper part of the body, swelling, arrhythmia with angina and tachycardia, as well as cardialgia, decreased blood pressure, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia and pancytopenia;
  • dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract and hepatobiliary system: the appearance of nausea or vomiting, the development of intestinal atony, cholestatic hepatitis or anorexia, and in addition, an increase in the activity of liver enzymes and exacerbation of cholecystitis;
  • other: occurrence of internal bleeding or hematomas, deterioration of vision and increased brittleness of nails;
  • allergy symptoms: development of itching, skin hyperemia, Quincke's edema, urticaria or anaphylaxis.

Overdose

As a result of pentoxifylline intoxication, dizziness, a feeling of drowsiness, weakness or excitement may occur, blood pressure may decrease, and fainting may develop. At the same time, if the dose continues to be increased, hyperthermia, tachycardia, areflexia may develop, as well as seizures and bleeding in the gastrointestinal tract and loss of consciousness.

The medicine has no specific antidote. In case of poisoning, it is necessary to perform procedures aimed at eliminating the signs of overdose. Such treatment is carried out in a hospital under constant medical supervision.

Interactions with other drugs

The medicinal effect of drugs is weakened by smoking.

Latren in combination with thrombolytics or anticoagulants (both direct and indirect) is able to potentiate their properties. Simultaneous use of these drugs is allowed only under the condition of regular monitoring of blood coagulation indicators.

The combination of the drug with cephalosporins potentiates the effectiveness of their action.

Pentoxifylline enhances the effects of antihypertensive drugs, valproates, insulin, and antidiabetic drugs.

Combined use with cimetidine increases plasma levels of pentoxifylline.

Concomitant use of Latren with other drugs that are xanthine derivatives may cause nervous overexcitation in the patient.
