Laticort is a corticosteroid used to treat dermatological conditions.
[ 1 ]
Indications Laticorta
It is used to eliminate non-infected skin lesions that manifest themselves in the form of increased keratinization and are also sensitive to local GCS: seborrheic or atopic dermatitis, contact eczema, psoriasis with erythroderma, as well as lichen planus and damage due to insect bites.
Release form
It is produced in the form of ointment, cream, and lotion (all forms 0.1%). Ointment and cream are in 15 g tubes (1 tube per pack), and lotion is in 20 ml bottles with a dispenser (1 bottle per pack).
Pharmacodynamics
The medicine is applied externally. It strengthens the capillary walls and has a strong antipruritic, anti-inflammatory, as well as anti-exudative and anti-allergic effect.
Prevents the activity of the phospholipase element, thereby inhibiting the binding processes of leukotrienes. Prevents the movement of leukocytes with lymphocytes to the area of inflammation, suppresses the proteolytic effect of tissue kinins, and at the same time prevents the appearance of fibroblasts, as well as connective tissues in the area of inflammation. In addition, the drug reduces hyperemia and manifestations of intolerance, as well as the processes of proliferation and exudation occurring in the area of inflammation.
Pharmacokinetics
After treatment of the skin surface, the drug is quickly absorbed inside. Absorption into the bloodstream is quite weak, although if the drug is applied to large areas of the body or used for a long time in combination with an airtight dressing, it can have a systemic effect. Laticort can accumulate inside the stratum corneum. Absorption of hydrocortisone is more pronounced in children.
Inside the epidermis, biotransformation of the active substance occurs, and the part of it that was absorbed inside undergoes hepatic metabolism, resulting in the formation of butanoic acid.
The decay products, as well as hydrocortisone, are excreted from the body along with bile and through the kidneys.
Dosing and administration
It is necessary to treat the affected area of skin with a small amount of the preparation – rub it in, massaging lightly. The procedure should be carried out 1-3 times a day for a period of 1-3 weeks. It is necessary to carefully monitor the size of the daily dose of the drug – it should not exceed 2 g.
If the inflammation is located on the elbows or knees (psoriasis plaques), it is recommended to use hermetic bandages.
For children, Laticort is prescribed in short courses, for a maximum of 1 week, and treatment is carried out under the supervision of a doctor.
The medicine should be applied to the face very carefully, because it can cause skin atrophy, perioral dermatitis, and in addition, telangiectasia. It is also necessary to prevent the drug from getting into the eyes.
If there is no improvement in the condition after 7 days of using the drug (or a deterioration is noted), it is necessary to discuss this issue with a doctor.
