Lamiphene is an antifungal drug for external use.

Indications Lamiphene

Indications for the use of the drug are: fungal infections of the skin caused by dermatophytes Trichophyton (for example, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, or Trichophyton violaceum), and also Microsporum canis and flaky epidermophyton (epidermophytosis of the feet in the interdigital area, inguinal epidermophytosis, ringworm). In addition, it is prescribed for versicolor lichen caused by Malassezia furfur.

Release form

It is produced in the form of a gel in tubes of 15 or 30 g. One package contains 1 tube.

Pharmacodynamics

Terbinafine is an allylamine and has powerful antimycotic properties. In the presence of the required concentration, terbinafine acquires fungicidal properties, affecting dermatophytes, as well as mold and certain dimorphic fungi. In relation to yeast fungi, the drug's activity can be fungistatic or fungicidal (this depends on the type of fungus).

At an early stage, the active substance specifically slows down the process of sterol biosynthesis in the fungal plasma membrane. As a result, there is a deficiency of ergosterol, as well as an accumulation of squalene inside the cell, which causes the fungal cells to die. The effect of terbinafine occurs by suppressing the enzyme squalene epoxidase in the fungal plasma membrane. This enzyme is not part of the P450 hemoprotein system. Terbinafine does not affect the process of hormonal metabolism or the metabolism of other drugs.

When used externally, the medicine starts to act quite quickly - this helps to get the result in a fairly short period of time (about 1-2 weeks). Less than 5% of the active substance is absorbed, so the medicine does not have a significant effect on the systemic blood flow.

Dosing and administration

The duration of the treatment course depends on the type of disease and its severity.

The skin should be treated once a day. Before the procedure, it is necessary to clean and dry the affected areas, and then apply the gel to these places and adjacent areas. The medicine should be rubbed in a little. In case of infections, in which diaper rash is observed in skin folds (between the fingers, buttocks, as well as in the groin area and under the mammary glands), the treated areas should be covered with gauze, especially during sleep.

Elderly patients do not require dosage adjustment.

Use Lamiphene during pregnancy

Since there is too little information about the use of the gel during pregnancy, it is not recommended to use the drug, except in cases where the potential benefit to the woman is higher than the risk of developing negative consequences for the fetus.

Contraindications

Contraindications include: individual intolerance to terbinafine or another component of the drug.

Side effects Lamiphene

Side effects include burning, itching and peeling of the skin, as well as irritation at the treatment site. In addition, erythema, pigmentation disorders, and crust formation are possible. These symptoms should be distinguished from allergic reactions (such as rash) – in this case, treatment should be discontinued. If the medicine accidentally gets into the eye, irritation may develop. Sometimes, a latent fungal infection may worsen.

Other adverse reactions:

  • immune system: hypersensitivity (including urticaria);
  • skin and connective tissue: damage and lesions of the skin, dryness, development of eczema or contact dermatitis;
  • other disturbances at the treatment site: pain and irritation, as well as exacerbation of the manifestations of the disease.

Overdose

When applied externally, overdose of the drug does not occur. Negative effects may occur due to accidental oral use of the gel. In this case, dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, pain in the epigastrium, as well as neutropenia and thrombocytopenia may be observed.

To eliminate the manifestations of overdose, symptomatic therapy is carried out.

Storage conditions

The medicine must be kept in a place out of reach of children. Temperature conditions – no more than 25°C. The medicine must not be frozen.

Shelf life

Lamiphene is permitted to be used for 2 years from the date of manufacture of the drug.
