Fenkarol has anti-allergic properties and helps reduce swelling.

trusted-source[ 1 ], [ 2 ]

Indications Fencarol

It is used to treat disorders such as urticaria or hay fever, as well as allergies to food products or therapeutic agents, and other diseases of allergic origin.

Along with this, the medication can be prescribed in the following situations:

  • various dermatoses ( eczema, itching, and neurodermatitis);
  • rhinopathy of allergic etiology;
  • Quincke's edema;
  • reactions to various allergens, which cause bronchial spasms.

Release form

The drug is produced in the form of a medicinal solution and tablets. The solution is packaged in ampoules with a capacity of 1 or 2 ml (in a separate box - 10 pieces), and the tablets - in blister plates (in the amount of 10 pieces), 2 blisters per box.

Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient of the drug is a derivative of quinuclidine carbinol, which weakens the activity of histamine (it is produced as an immune response to the effect of an allergen). The structure of the substance contains a cyclic quinuclidine nucleus, and it itself is located at a significant distance between the category of diphenylcarbinol, as well as nitrogen.

The element khifenadine helps block H1-endings using the competitive principle, and during this process it activates the activity of the enzyme diamine oxidase. This enzyme helps break down histamine (about 30%). Due to these properties, Fenkarol demonstrates higher efficiency in comparison with other antiallergic drugs.

The drug hardly penetrates the BBB, exerting only a weak effect on the processes of serotonin deamination inside the brain, as well as on MAO.

The medicine helps to remove spasms affecting smooth intestinal muscles, as well as itching and discomfort caused by allergies. It also reduces the antihypertensive effect and strengthens capillary strength, while not affecting the heart muscles and blood pressure.

Fenkarol differs from the well-known drugs pipolfen and diphenhydramine in that it does not suppress the central nervous system, and is present in very small amounts inside the brain tissue. However, when a patient develops a specific response to medicinal elements, a weak sedative effect may appear.

Pharmacokinetics

After intramuscular injections, peak drug levels are observed after half an hour. When taking tablets orally, similar values are observed after 60 minutes.

The accumulation of the drug is mainly carried out in the kidneys with the liver and lungs. Then the substance undergoes metabolic transformations, and its decay products are then excreted in the urine.

Dosing and administration

The drug is used in the appropriate therapeutic form, taking into account the patient's age, signs of the disease and side effects. Tablets should be taken after meals, while washing them down with plain water or some other liquid.

Use of tablets containing 25 mg.

For an adult, the standard dosage is 1-2 tablets taken 3-4 times a day. In total, a maximum of 0.2 g of the drug is allowed per day.

Teenagers over 12 years of age are required to take 50-75 mg of the drug per day (thus, the dosage regimen is 1 tablet taken 2-3 times a day).

Such therapy usually lasts for 10-20 days.

Use of children's Fenkarol (tablet volume - 10 mg).

The medicine is taken orally. For children aged 3-7 years, the dosage is 1 tablet 2 times a day. Children aged 7-12 years are prescribed to take 1 tablet 2-3 times a day. Teenagers over 12 years of age are recommended to take 2 tablets of the drug 2-3 times a day.

The treatment cycle should be drawn up by the attending pediatrician. Usually it is 10-15 days.

Scheme of application of the medicinal substance for intramuscular injections.

To treat hay fever, injections are required, the dosage of which is 2 ml, twice a day, for 3 days. Then the portion size is reduced to 2 ml (single injection per day), which must be administered for another 2 days.

For the treatment of urticaria or angioedema, 2 ml of the drug should be administered twice a day for the first 5 days, and then 2 ml once a day for another 3 days.

One injection of the drug may contain no more than 2 ml of the substance (20 mg), and a maximum of 4 ml (40 mg of the drug) may be administered per day.

After the acute allergy symptoms have been relieved, the patient must be transferred to taking Fenkarol tablets.
