Phenazid belongs to the category of anti-tuberculosis therapeutic agents.
[ 1 ]
Indications Fenazide
It is used in the combined treatment of patients with tuberculosis of different localizations. It also helps with concomitant diseases affecting the liver and central nervous system, as well as with poor tolerance of drugs such as GINK.
Release form
The release is carried out in tablets, in the amount of 50 pieces in a jar or 10 pieces in a blister pack. The pack contains 1 jar or 5 blisters with tablets.
Pharmacodynamics
Phenazid has therapeutic activity against tuberculosis mycobacteria. The basis of its medicinal effect is the modification of the isoniazid molecule - by forming a compound with iron. As a result, chemotherapy of tuberculosis begins, because the chelate compound of the GINK molecule is blocked by iron. As a result, it loses the ability to interact with the main centers of metal-containing enzymes. In addition, due to the inclusion of the primary hydrazine amino group in the process of chelate compounds, interaction with the N-acetyltransferase element is prevented.
Since the drug has a low level of toxicity, its use does not require changes in its single and course doses, taking into account the rate of acetylation processes.
The drug also has a prolonged medicinal effect.
Pharmacokinetics
The drug is absorbed slowly, the active component needs 5-6 hours to reach peak levels. The half-life is 7.2 hours.
Dosing and administration
To check whether the patient has individual hypersensitivity to the drug, on the first day of the course, one tablet should be taken in the morning after eating. If no side effects occur, on the 2nd day, as well as on the following days, Phenazid is taken in a portion of 0.25 g (1 tablet) 2 times a day, in the morning and in the evening, 30-40 minutes after eating.
This course can last up to six months.
Use Fenazide during pregnancy
It is prohibited to prescribe Phenazid to nursing and pregnant women.

Interactions with other drugs
During clinical tests, no incompatibility or antagonism was found in case of combined use of Fenazid with anti-tuberculosis drugs from other drug groups.
Combined use with isoniazid can cause potentiation of the toxic effect, which is often caused by drugs such as GINK. In this regard, combining these drugs is prohibited.
