Dermadrine is an antipruritic drug with local anesthetic effect. It is an antihistamine for local use.
[ 1 ]
Indications Dermadrina
It is used to eliminate signs of itching, local pain and manifestations of hypersensitivity in the following cases:
- for dermatitis (also itchy or allergic type);
- due to bites of various insects;
- for eczema or urticaria;
- for thermal burns (this includes sunburn);
- in case of itching in the area of abrasions and wound edges;
- for polymorphic rash (allergy to sun rays).
Pharmacodynamics
Dermadrine has a blocking effect on the receptors (H1) of the substance diphenhydramine, and also selectively inhibits H1 histamine endings.
The component diphenhydramine hydrochloride has a pronounced antiallergic and antihistamine effect and a powerful antipruritic effect. In addition, the drug has analgesic properties.
The ointment contains a cream component, due to which it does not cause irritation and is applied evenly to the skin. The medicine is based on a water-oil emulsion, which provides it with a cooling effect.
Pharmacokinetics
After local treatment, the active component of Dermadrin penetrates into the subcutaneous tissues and skin. The anesthetic and antipruritic effect appears immediately after application of the drug and continues for 2-6 hours.
Dosing and administration
The ointment should be applied to the affected areas of the skin, taking into account the area of the affected part:
- for teenagers from 12 years old and adults – apply 5-15 cm of ointment 3-4 times a day;
- children aged 6-12 years – use 8-10 cm of medicine 3-4 times a day;
- Children 2-6 years old – 3 cm of Dermadrin, 2-3 procedures per day.
During the day, adolescents from 12 years of age and adults can apply no more than 300 mg of the active substance of the drug (15 g of ointment). This figure is approximately ¾ of a tube of medicine (volume 20 g), 1/3 of a tube of 50 g, and also 1/6 of a tube of 100 g.
Children aged 6-12 years can apply a maximum of 150 mg of the active ingredient Dermadrin per day, which is 41 cm of ointment strip.
For children aged 2-6 years, a maximum of 37 mg of the drug can be used per day – about 10 cm of ointment strip.
Weakened or elderly people, as well as people with severe liver/kidney failure, need to select dose sizes and duration of the course of use, taking into account the severity of the disease and the effectiveness of the treatment. All indicators are assigned individually.
In case of prolonged use of the ointment, it is necessary to assess the need for further use of the drug.

Use Dermadrina during pregnancy
It is prohibited to use the medicine in the 1st trimester. According to epidemiological tests, it was found that pregnant women who used the ointment in the 1st trimester experienced an increased incidence of cleft palate in infants.
Animal testing has shown that there is a risk of reproductive toxicity.
It is forbidden to treat large areas of the skin with the ointment during pregnancy. Dermadrin should be used after the individual dosage size has been prescribed and only in cases where the likelihood of benefit to the mother exceeds the risk of complications for the fetus. The constant use of H1 element antagonists during pregnancy is often prohibited because controlled tests have not been conducted, which makes it impossible to completely exclude the occurrence of retinopathy of prematurity.
During lactation, it is necessary to remember that the active component of the drug can penetrate into breast milk.
Contraindications
Among the contraindications:
- intolerance to the active component or additional elements of the drug, as well as other antihistamines;
- combination with other drugs containing diphenhydramine hydrochloride;
- treatment of areas with fractures, open wounds, as well as mucous membranes and large areas of skin (especially in cases of measles, chickenpox and vesicular skin diseases).
Side effects Dermadrina
The ointment contains peanut oil, which can occasionally cause allergies. The substance methyl parahydroxybenzoate can cause mild skin irritation. Ethyl can cause local dermatological manifestations (such as contact dermatitis).
As a result of violation of the mode of use, certain side effects may develop:
- dermatological diseases and reactions of the subcutaneous layer: skin manifestations of allergies, photosensitivity (it is forbidden to be in sunlight) with itching and redness, the appearance of swelling and blisters, and also the development of dryness of the oral mucosa;
- manifestations of the nervous system: in case of excessive absorption of the ointment through the skin, a feeling of fatigue develops (especially in children), increased sensitivity, a feeling of restlessness, excitability and anxiety, and spasms also occur;
- pathologies of the urinary organs and kidneys: problems with the process of urination.
Interactions with other drugs
No drug interaction tests have been performed. In the case of treating large areas of skin with the drug, the possibility of interaction cannot be ruled out. This applies, for example, to the use of MAOIs, and in addition to this, drugs that contain diphenhydramine.
Tricyclics together with atropine are capable of potentiating the anticholinergic effect of the active component of Dermadrin, as well as the properties of opioid analgesics, hypnotics and drugs that suppress the function of the central nervous system.
Interactions with antihypertensive drugs may occur.
When combined with alcoholic beverages, the effects of alcohol may be enhanced.
