Pharmacodynamics

Benzocaine, which is an active component of the drug, is a local anesthetic. It prevents the passage of nerve impulses, and at the same time strengthens the stability of cell membranes under the influence of sodium ions - this allows complete anesthesia of mucous membranes and skin.

Pharmacokinetics

The effect of the gel begins already after 1 minute after its application. Duration of drug exposure is 20 minutes. Absorbed gel is quickly cleaved by hydrolysis (with the participation of blood plasma cholinesterases, and, less significantly, liver cholinesterases) to the state of decay products containing vitamin H1. Excretion of the drug is carried out by the kidneys, usually in the form of decay products.

Dosing and administration

Before starting the procedure, you need to wash your hands. After this, it is required to unscrew the lid of the tube and cut off the soldering on the hole. Gel on the gums is applied in a small amount - you need to process the area where the teeth are cut.

When used for the elimination of toothache, the medicine treats the area around the problem tooth.

The procedure is allowed to be performed 3-4 times a day. It is not recommended to use the medicine for more than a week.

Side effects Denthol

Medicines containing benzocaine (2-10%) are generally well tolerated. They have no irritating effect, and are also non-toxic.

In general, the adverse reaction is due to the patient's hypersensitivity to the drug, or exceeding the permissible dose of drugs. If the patient has swelling, itching or hyperemia in the gel treatment area, it is necessary to cancel the use of the drug.

Overdose

The use of drugs in the required quantities eliminates the possibility of overdose. But if there are multiple mucosal lesions in the mouth, and the dose of the drug has been greatly exceeded, its absorption may increase, so that the concentration of the active substance in the blood serum will increase. As a result, edema may appear on the site of treatment, itching or hyperemia may begin. There is a single suppression or stimulation of the central nervous system, the suppression of the cardiovascular system, and in addition the development of methemoglobinemia.

If the patient has such symptoms, you should rinse your mouth with a solution of soda (warm), and then consult a doctor.

Interactions with other drugs

Dentol is not allowed to combine with sulfonamides, as well as with inhibitors of ChE. The latter can inhibit the metabolism of benzocaine, thereby increasing the likelihood of systemic intoxication. At the same time, benzocaine itself has the ability to inhibit the antibacterial activity of sulfanilamide drugs.
