A unique healing natural product that has been known for several hundred years is Dead Sea mud.

Useful properties of Dead Sea mud
The beneficial properties of Dead Sea mud can be discussed endlessly. It has such a wide range of therapeutic effects that it can only be compared to the complex use of complex medication regimens. But even here the mud wins significantly: after all, it is created by nature itself, which means it is natural and has no side effects.
The use of Dead Sea mud has a multifaceted effect on the body:
- dilates blood vessels;
- activates blood circulation and lymph flow;
- accelerates metabolic processes;
- facilitates the flow of oxygen and nutrients into tissues;
- cleanses the body of toxic substances and metabolic products;
- stimulates the autonomic nervous system;
- improves turgor and tone of the skin;
- activates neuroendocrine activity;
- inhibits the growth and development of pathogenic microbes;
- relieves inflammation;
- stimulates tissue regeneration;
- renews cells and fills them with life-giving energy.
Such healing properties of Dead Sea muds contribute to the successful treatment of skin, nervous and vascular pathologies, diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, respiratory system, joints. Mud even copes with gynecological and reproductive problems, stabilizes the endocrine system.
Natural Dead Sea Mud
Organic natural mud is extracted from the bottom sediments of the Dead Sea. The mud looks like a dark gray thick paste-like mass. Why do people go en masse to the coast of Israel for this incomprehensible substance?
The fact is that the mineral mud of the Dead Sea has a rich, unique composition. It contains a lot of bentonite, quartz particles, white clay, mica, potassium and bromide salts, feldspar, iodide and magnesium compounds, iron, manganese and cobalt salts, as well as gaseous substances: hydrogen sulfide, methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen compounds, etc. Many healing properties are due to the presence of bromide and sulfate compounds of electrolytes in the mud, which are found in some quantities in human blood serum and lymphatic fluid. Such compounds, being absorbed into the blood, saturate it with essential substances.
Of course, there are many other useful mud springs known in the world, but the healing mud of the Dead Sea from Israel is the leader in the list of healing natural resources.
The uniqueness of the mud also lies in its consistency: the smallest mud particles allow useful substances to freely penetrate through the skin deep into the tissues of the body. In addition, the mass is easily applied and washed off the skin without causing discomfort to the patient.

How to use dead sea mud?
Dead Sea mud can be used locally or as a systemic remedy. The method of application depends mainly on the disease the patient wants to cure: the organic substance is distributed over the entire surface of the body, or strictly on problematic areas, as well as on the face and hair.
The most common use of mud is zonal. Let's consider the main methods of mud therapy for individual indications.
Dead Sea Mud for Joints
Dead Sea mud for joints should be used every day for 14-15 days on the affected area. Mud heated to 40° C is spread in a significant layer on the painful area, covered with cellophane and wrapped in a scarf. Additionally, external heating of the compress can be used with a heat reflector.
The mud compress can be removed after 20-30 minutes, and the skin in the area of the compress can be lubricated with a nourishing cream.
Dead Sea mud for arthrosis of joints is heated to 42 °C, applied for 20 minutes. The duration of such treatment is from 10 to 20 sessions every other day. The greatest effect is expected from a combination of different treatment methods. For example, mud therapy can be used in combination with anti-inflammatory treatment: such a comprehensive approach strengthens the defense system, improves trophic processes in tissues, and facilitates the function of the adrenal cortex.

Dead Sea Mud in Gynecology
Dead Sea mud is used in gynecology in the following cases:
- for the treatment of chronic inflammatory processes;
- to dissolve adhesions in the pelvis;
- for menstrual disorders;
- in case of hormonal imbalance;
- to relieve menopausal symptoms;
- for the treatment of infertility;
- for the treatment of cervical erosion.
Treatment of gynecological diseases is a very popular and effective procedure, for which many women go to Israel for treatment. Self-treatment of the reproductive system with mud is not recommended: such procedures are prescribed by a doctor after a comprehensive examination.
The most common procedure is to use mud at a temperature of +38 to +44° C. The temperature of the water for washing off the mud should be approximately the same.
Intravaginal application is often used along with applicator application of mud to the abdominal cavity and pelvic area. Intravaginal mud tampons are used 3-4 times a week, but not every day. The duration of the session is from half an hour to 40 minutes. A full course of treatment is about 15 procedures.
Mud for vaginal procedures is rarely used in its pure form to avoid burns, so be sure to consult a good specialist before use.

Treatment of periodontal disease with Dead Sea mud
Periodontosis is an unpleasant chronic disease that usually requires long-term treatment. However, treating periodontosis with Dead Sea mud significantly facilitates and accelerates healing. In case of the disease, a warm mud compress consisting of a gauze napkin soaked in mud mass is applied to the affected gums. Immediately before application, the compress is warmed up using a water bath or simply placed in the sun. After applying the remedy, the jaws should be closed and left for 10-15 minutes. After the procedure, the compress should be thrown away, and the oral cavity should be rinsed with warm, clean, preferably boiled water. The duration of treatment is about a week, provided that the procedures are carried out daily.
If necessary, the course can be repeated after several months.
Dead Sea Mud for Psoriasis
Of course, it would be wrong to say that Dead Sea mud helps 100% against psoriasis. This is because the etiology of psoriasis has not yet been thoroughly studied. However, there are numerous facts proving that such treatment can often be successful.
How to use Dead Sea mud for psoriasis?
The mud mass should be spread over the area affected by the disease at least 2 times a day, leaving it for about an hour. The course of such treatment is from 3 weeks to a month. If desired, a bandage can be applied over the mud application.
As a rule, the results will be noticeable within a week from the start of mud therapy, however, this fact also largely depends on the general condition of the body and the degree of neglect of the disease.
Of course, a big positive aspect of mud therapy is the absence of side effects, which are almost always present during drug therapy of the disease.
Dead Sea Mud for Cellulite
Mud is widely used for preventive and therapeutic purposes to affect subcutaneous fat, remove toxic substances from it and relieve swelling. In order to enhance the effect of using mud, essential oils, ground dry herbs and other agents can be added to the mass.
Immediately before the mud procedure, you should cleanse your skin and do a peeling. You can use a ready-made scrub, or make your own from ground coffee or coarse sea salt. By removing dead skin particles, we will facilitate the absorption of dirt into the tissue.
Apply mud heated to 40-42°C to clean skin of cellulite areas, cover with cellophane or wrap with cellophane (like a compress). Leave for 20-30 minutes, then remove and rinse well with warm water.
This regular application of Dead Sea mud stimulates blood circulation in the skin, removes toxins and nourishes the tissues. Over time, uneven skin becomes smoother and the skin acquires a firm and healthy appearance.
Dead Sea Mud Wrap
Dead Sea mud wraps are used to stimulate metabolism, remove toxins, get rid of extra pounds, renew skin and improve the health of the body as a whole.
Mud therapy has a calming effect on the nervous system. It is a pleasant procedure for relieving stress, tension, and getting rid of chronic fatigue syndrome.
Muds stabilize the sweating process, strengthen the protective functions of the skin, cleanse pores and improve tissue trophism.
For wraps, mud mass heated to 40 °C is used.
How is the wrapping procedure performed:
- we spread a warm blanket on the couch and cellophane on top of it;
- immediately before the session you should take a shower, preferably using a scrub or peeling gel;
- we heat the mud mass to a temperature of +40 to +42 °C;
- apply the mass to the lower limbs, back (you can ask someone to help you), upper limbs. Do not apply mud to the mammary glands or to the projection of the heart;
- we wrap ourselves in cellophane and wrap ourselves in a blanket on top;
- relax for 20-30 minutes;
- remove the cellophane and wash off the dirt with warm water, without using soap or other cleaning agents;
- We dry ourselves and massage the body using special oil or regular cream or milk.
Dead Sea Mud Shampoo
For any type of hair, there is also a shampoo with Dead Sea mud. This hair cleanser has a delicate texture and rich composition. Black Dead Sea mud is supplemented with various plant extracts: sea buckthorn oil, Aloe or chamomile extract. Thanks to the effectively selected composition, hair follicles are strengthened, and hair becomes soft, silky and fresh after the first use.
Before applying the shampoo, mix it well, take a small amount of the product and distribute it with massage movements on the hair and scalp. Rinse the hair with clean water.
Many cosmetic companies produce shampoos with Dead Sea mud, including Dr. Sea and Sea of Spa.
Dead Sea Mud Soap
Dead Sea Mud Soap is enriched with minerals, supplemented with a small amount of olive oil and aloe, which improve the penetration of beneficial substances into the skin.
Gentle soap gently cleanses and moisturizes the skin, effectively washes away dust, grease, sweat, dead skin particles from the skin surface, and also restores the natural environment on the body surface. Thanks to such soap, a constant level of skin moisture is maintained: it becomes younger and fresher.
Mud soap is suitable even for sensitive skin.
Dead Sea Mud Cream
All kinds of creams containing Dead Sea mud promise to make your skin look fresh and well-groomed. The mud component of the creams stimulates blood circulation, promotes rejuvenation and renewal of the skin. The cream will help preserve the natural moisture in the layers of the epidermis, making it soft and healthy. Regular use of the cream eliminates itching, hyperemia and irritation on the surface of the skin, heals cracks and abrasions, and gets rid of dry skin.
The cream should be rubbed in with massaging movements until completely absorbed. The cream can be applied to the palms and feet at night in a thick layer, putting on socks or gloves after the procedure.
Mud-based creams are generally hypoallergenic and suitable for use on sensitive skin.
Dead Sea Salt and Mud
The salt and mud of the Dead Sea are considered the richest sources of minerals in the world, and the best preparations for healing sessions and body renewal.
Salt can heal purulent wounds, strengthen hair follicles, and eliminate dandruff. The Dead Sea salt solution is similar in elemental composition to blood serum.
Salt, like mud, can be successfully used to restore mineral balance in the body. How to use a solution of salts and mud:
- as a make-up remover;
- as a medicinal bath for limbs;
- in the form of hair compresses;
- for rinsing the mouth and throat during inflammatory processes;
- for wiping the skin of the face in case of acne;
- as liquids for douching and washing in case of gynecological diseases.
The antioxidant mud of the Dead Sea not only improves the appearance of the skin, but also destroys pathogenic bacteria: staphylococcal, streptococcal flora, E. coli, etc. Based on this, experts recommend taking baths with the addition of mud and salt from the Dead Sea. Baths will be useful both for the prevention of diseases and for the treatment of psoriasis, eczema, dermatitis, migraines and depressive states. Baths are useful for radiculitis, polyarthritis, osteomyelitis. Of course, in order for the effect of the baths to be noticeable, more than 10 kg of mud and 2 kilograms of salt should be used per 200 liters of water.
Dead Sea Mud for Face
The skin on the face is much more sensitive and delicate than on other parts of the body. For this reason, facial mud should be diluted and not used in its pure form. For dilution, you can use various oils (olive, sea buckthorn, sesame), including essential oils (fir, mint, citrus oil), as well as honey, freshly squeezed fruit and vegetable juices, milk, cream, sour cream, or just any moisturizing face cream. If you don’t have any of the above, you should dilute the mud with regular clean water, you can use mineral water.
A mask made from Dead Sea mud is an excellent remedy against premature aging and skin fading. To apply the mask, dilute the mud and spread it on a clean, moistened surface of the face, without touching the area around the eyes and mouth. After 20 minutes, wash off the mask without using soap or other cleansers. What does this mask give:
- stimulates blood circulation and local metabolic processes;
- more oxygen and nutrition are supplied to the tissues, which promotes the renewal of skin cells;
- Toxic substances accumulated in the skin are dissolved and removed.
The result is clear, refreshed skin, a healthy complexion, no oily shine, and a reduction in the number of wrinkles.
Dead Sea Mud for Hair
Dead Sea mud is also widely used for hair. This remedy effectively eliminates hair loss and dandruff, eliminates headaches and even helps to get rid of depression. In addition, hair follicles are supplied with additional nutrition in the form of useful minerals, which makes hair stronger and thicker.
The mud is used warm, starting from the scalp, gradually moving to the entire length of the hair. The hair should be moistened before the procedure.
Massage your hair for about 2 minutes, then put on a shower cap and a towel on top. After 20 minutes, rinse with clean running water, using shampoo until all remaining dirt is washed away.
How to store Dead Sea mud?
There are many opinions regarding the duration and conditions for preserving the mud of the Dead Sea. We carefully studied all the options and came to the conclusion:
- real "clean" mud has no expiration date, provided it is stored properly;
- Proper storage means no direct ultraviolet rays;
- You also cannot put dirt in the refrigerator, and especially not in the freezer or cellar: in such conditions it will lose all its beneficial properties;
- Usually the dirt is placed in a plastic bag or glass jar and stored in the shower room.
Store-bought muds sometimes contain universal preservatives (for example, phenoxyethanol). In this way, the manufacturer tries to protect itself from possible spoilage of the product under improper storage conditions. In principle, the presence of preservatives does not affect the quality of the mud.
Reviews of Dead Sea Mud
You can easily find a lot of rave reviews about Dead Sea mud on the Internet. We analyzed them and made certain conclusions that we want to share with you.
- Mud is a uniform dark-gray oil-like mass that does not contain grains, salt crystals, or algae elements. If what you bought in the store does not match this description, it may be a fake. For example, dilution powder is not mud.
- The dirt must be hermetically sealed.
- Before use, the mud mass must be heated to a temperature of 40-42 °C. It is more convenient to do this by placing the package with the contents in warm water. If you are going to heat the package in the microwave, open it first (unless you are planning to buy a new microwave).
- For your face, use only diluted (!) mud.
- You cannot ingest the mud or apply it to open wounds.
- If after applying the mud mass you cover it with cellophane, you will significantly increase the effectiveness of the procedure.
- The mud is laid out in a layer of ½-1 cm.
- The same mud should not be used twice.
- When working with dirt, wear rubber gloves to prevent the mass from getting under the nail plate.
- Mud therapy procedures may be accompanied by pinching and tingling on the skin: this is considered normal. If the sensations are unpleasant and unbearable, wash off the mass immediately.
Of course, mud therapy will bring great benefits directly at the resorts and health centers on the Dead Sea coast in Israel. However, if you do not have the opportunity to visit this country, do not worry. Arrange a SPA salon at home, fortunately, the healing mud of the Dead Sea, as well as all kinds of cosmetics based on it, can be purchased in many pharmacies and cosmetic stores.
