Dermatitis is an inflammatory skin reaction. Dermatitis can appear on any skin area and due to a variety of reasons. A rash or eczema is one of the signs of a metabolic disorder, a malfunction of the internal organs. Dermatitis can develop due to an inherited or acquired tendency of the body to allergies to certain foods or medications. The success of treatment depends entirely on the correct determination of the "detonator" of the reaction. The patient's age and concomitant diseases also play an important role. Only a dermatologist can prescribe adequate, complete treatment, which necessarily includes a cream for dermatitis.
It's easy to get confused among the variety of names of dermatitis creams: pharmacists offer many options.
Creams can be divided into two large groups: hormonal and non-hormonal. Pharmacists emphasize that the use of steroid creams gives an almost immediate and noticeable effect. But a number of side effects of dermatitis cream with hormones are a weighty argument to minimize its use, or even try to abstain from it altogether. In addition, hormonal creams can interact with other drugs.
Simultaneous use increases the likelihood of side effects of androgens, estrogens, oral contraceptives, anabolic steroids, antipsychotics, antihistamines, tricyclic antidepressants, diuretics, cardiac glycosides. In view of this, hormonal creams for the treatment of dermatitis should be used only when other drugs have not yielded results. After all, in these cases there may be more harm than good.
Non-hormonal creams for dermatitis of various etiologies
Non-hormonal creams have a very gentle effect on the skin, but at the same time - effectively. Usually, non-hormonal products are prescribed for the treatment of childhood dermatitis.
Tsinavita cream is a non-hormonal product with anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antiseptic action. The cream is based exclusively on natural oils, which are perfectly absorbed and create a natural barrier, protecting the skin from adverse external factors. The action of linoleic and linolenic acid in Tsinavita is also aimed at regenerating the barrier function of the epidermis. The cream restores the normal functioning of the sebaceous glands and inhibits excessive growth of the upper layers of the epidermis, eliminating peeling. Indications for the use of Tsinavita cream: irritation, redness, peeling, itching and other skin reactions associated with atopic or seborrheic dermatitis, allergies, psoriasis, eczema, neurodermatitis. The cream is used when glucocorticosteroids are contraindicated or there are concerns about their use. Zinovita cream, unlike glucocorticosteroids, is safe and suitable even for the smallest children - from one year of age.
Eplan is used for herpes infections, abscesses, psoriasis, ulcers, cracks, microbial eczema, burns, to eliminate swelling and itching due to dermatitis of various types.
Skin-Cap is produced in various forms - cream, gel, shampoo, aerosol. The drug has a pronounced glucocorticoid effect. Skin-Cap is recommended for the treatment of atopic, seborrheic, diaper dermatitis. The product is safe for small children - its use is permitted from the age of one year.
Exoderil is an antifungal agent. It gives good results in the treatment of epidermal candidiasis, pityriasis versicolor, mycoses and inflammatory dermatomycoses.
Bepanten perfectly moisturizes dry skin. It can be applied to the skin of the face or hands to protect against the adverse effects of external factors. It effectively copes with diaper dermatitis, heals cracks and abrasions on the skin.
Radevit is used for atopic, allergic, contact dermatitis in the remission stage. The drug relieves inflammation and itching, softens the epidermis, restores the barrier function, regulates the keratinization mechanism.
Gistan contains plant extracts, dimethicone and betulin. Suitable for the treatment of allergic and atopic dermatitis, eczema, neurodermatitis.
Elidel effectively relieves inflammation in atopic dermatitis and eczema. Elidel should be used with caution, since the long-term effects have not been studied. There are opinions that it suppresses the immune system and can provoke the development of lymphoma, but the connection between the use of the cream and lymphoma has not yet been confirmed. For this reason, the use of Elidel is justified only when treatment with other drugs has proven ineffective.
Fenistil has a local anesthetic effect and eliminates the manifestations of allergies on the skin.
Losterin contains D-panthenol, herbal extract and almond oil. It successfully fights dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema. It relieves inflammation, has an anesthetic effect, eliminates itching.
Thymogen activates the immune mechanism, eliminates itching and redness caused by atopic dermatitis or chronic eczema. Like any other immunomodulator, this drug should not be taken without supervision: only after consultation with a specialist.
Naftaderm contains naphthalan oil. It is recognized as a good antiseptic, relieves inflammation, eliminates pain and itching in atopic dermatitis, eczema, boils, burns and ulcers.
Nowadays, the magical effect of Zorka cream is being hotly discussed. What kind of cream is this? It is amazing, but initially this product was used in veterinary medicine. It was applied to cows' udders: the cream healed abrasions and cracks in the udder. Some workers risked trying the cream as a hand moisturizer. And they were surprised by the incredible effect! Later, cosmetologists became interested in the product. Having slightly changed the formula and perfume composition, they created a product that successfully fights dermatitis. How is the miraculous result achieved? Floralisin - the basis of Zorka - is an extract from mushroom mycelium. It contains special enzymes with collagenase action, coenzyme Q10, biotin, phospholipids, vitamins, and minerals. The active substance activates synthesis, nutrition, and metabolism in tissues: the skin becomes moisturized, and the activation of blood circulation in the vessels stimulates regeneration.
Cream for atopic dermatitis
The cosmetics manufacturer Mustela produces a special cream for atopic dermatitis. The action of Mustela cream is aimed at restoring the lipid balance, it successfully fights dermatitis in babies, softening and moisturizing delicate skin.
Emolium cream is the newest emollient created for the care of sensitive and dry sensitive skin. Emolium is suitable for everyday use, as well as for the prevention of atopic dermatitis and restoration of the epidermis during periods of remission. Emolium successfully eliminates dryness and fights the causes of its appearance: it fills with lipids and moisturizes the upper layer of the skin, prevents moisture loss by the skin, regenerates the hydrolipid layer. All components of the Emolium formula are non-toxic and hypoallergenic, the likelihood of overdose with frequent use is excluded.
Protopic is used to treat childhood atopic dermatitis. The drug relieves inflammation but does not cause epidermal atrophy. It is approved for use in patients from the age of two.
Cream for diaper rash
Antibacterial creams are the best helpers for diaper rash. The most effective and safe cream for diaper rash is one containing zinc. It is sold without a prescription and is suitable for daily care of the baby's delicate skin.
Cream with zinc has a wound-healing effect and does not provoke allergies.
If you don’t have zinc cream on hand, you can use familiar Vaseline or lanolin, which will create an impenetrable barrier for water and microorganisms.
Sometimes, if the skin is very inflamed, more radical drugs may be prescribed.

Sun dermatitis cream
If the skin is inflamed from sun exposure, it is also recommended to use a cream containing zinc. An ointment with methyluracil or lanolin will also help. In special cases, a specialist can prescribe Fluorocort (a cream based on triamcinolone) or Betamethasone for photodermatosis.
Cream for allergic dermatitis
The latest development in the field of non-hormonal creams for allergic dermatitis is the creation of calcineurin inhibitors. This is the leading enzyme involved in the synthesis of allergy "detonators" on the skin. Today, there is one drug with such a mechanism of action - Elidel cream. It successfully fights not only mild manifestations of dermatitis, but is able to cope with moderate degrees of the disease.
Cream for seborrheic dermatitis
Cream for seborrheic dermatitis regulates the sebaceous glands, relieves inflammation, fights fungal infections and other pathogenic flora. For local use, antifungal agents, hormonal and keratolytic creams are usually prescribed.
Seborrheic dermatitis manifests itself due to the activation of the Malassezia fungus, and for this reason, the local application must necessarily contain an antifungal component to stop the proliferation of fungi. Fluconazole; Clotrimazole; Itraconazole and Ketoconazole are effective in combating this type of fungus. The pharmacodynamics of such drugs are similar: the production of ergosterol is inhibited and the cell membrane of fungi is attacked.
Hormonal creams for seborrheic dermatitis (elocom, celestoderm, triderm) must be selected and used very carefully, because their uncontrolled use will reduce local immunity, and as a result, the normal microflora will be disrupted.
Before choosing any drug, it is better to consult a dermatologist. Most likely, he will suggest combining antifungal and steroid creams and additionally antibacterial and keratolytic agents.
Using Dermatitis Cream During Pregnancy
The main goal in treating dermatitis in pregnant women is to relieve itching and eliminate skin inflammation. Medicines are selected that are absolutely harmless to the health of the expectant mother and baby. Moisturizing creams and hormonal creams are usually used. Moisturizing products are designed to protect the skin from drying out. It is not difficult to choose a safe and suitable product - there are many offers in cosmetic stores and pharmacies. Pregnant women should be careful with steroid creams. Many steroid creams have contraindications for use during pregnancy. To reduce the manifestations of dermatitis in pregnant women, doctors advise using the weakest creams and applying the minimum required amount, strictly following the method of using the cream for dermatitis described in the instructions. For example, Hydrocortisone contains a minimum concentration of hormones and has a weak penetrating ability, so this drug or drugs similar in pharmacokinetics and mode of action are more often prescribed.
There are many names of creams for dermatitis, where the active ingredient is Hydrocortisone:
- Laticort - quickly relieves inflammation, swelling and itching. However, it cannot be used for skin affected by viruses, fungi, bacteria, acne or signs of rosacea or other skin diseases.
- Pimafukort is a combination product. It fights dermatitis, the course of which is complicated by bacteria or fungi. It cannot be used if the skin lesion developed against the background of a virus, there are open wounds, acne. This cream for dermatitis for children is relatively safe and can be used from the age of one year.
- Cortomycetin relieves inflammation, allergic reactions and has an antimicrobial effect. It is effective for the treatment of microbial eczema, atopic dermatitis and psoriasis.
Cortomycetin should not be used for fungal and viral infections, open wounds. The drug is contraindicated for pregnant women.
- Gioxizone (Oxycort) - contains a glucocorticoid. Has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory action. Used for bacterial skin lesions, allergic dermatitis complicated by bacterial pathogenic flora, psoriasis. The drug is contraindicated in viral skin diseases, tuberculosis, syphilis, dermatomycosis, tumors, reactions due to vaccine administration.
This is not a complete list of drugs; manufacturers offer many other hormonal creams with the active ingredient Clobetasol, Triamcinolone, Alclomethasone, Betamethasone, Fluticasone and others.
To choose the necessary drug, you need to consider all the pros and cons and consult a doctor.
Remember: in order for medicines to retain their activity, it is important to follow the established storage rules and expiration dates.
And even the best cream for dermatitis is not a panacea. Treatment should be comprehensive: strengthening the immune system, organizing proper nutrition and eliminating stress factors will contribute to a speedy recovery.
