Release form

The substance is released in the form of a lyophilisate, in vials with a capacity of 0.5, 1 or 2 g.

Pharmacodynamics

Cefosin is a cephalosporin with bactericidal properties. The effect of the drug develops by destroying the processes of binding of the cell membrane of the causative bacterium.

The drug has a wide range of medicinal activity: streptococci with proteus, enterococci with staphylococci, klebsiella and chlamydia, and in addition, escherichia, morganella and corynebacteria.

The drug demonstrates resistance to β-lactamases, as well as penicillinase of microbes.

Pharmacokinetics

After intravenous injection, plasma Cmax values are noted after 5 minutes, and after intramuscular injection – after half an hour.

Protein synthesis is about 30-40%. Therapeutic indicators are noted in most fluids with tissues. It is subject to metabolic processes; one of its metabolic products has medicinal activity.

The half-life of the drug after intravenous injection is 60 minutes; after intramuscular injection - 90 minutes. Excretion of the majority of the drug occurs through the kidneys.

In elderly people and people with chronic renal failure, the half-life of the drug is increased. In premature infants, this period is 4.6 hours. There is no accumulation of the drug.

Dosing and administration

For intramuscular injections, 500 mg of the substance must be diluted in injection water (2 ml). A 1% lidocaine solution in the same portion can be used as a solvent. The drug must be injected into the buttock muscle.

For intravenous injection, the medicine must be diluted in injection water (10 ml), then injected into a vein at a slow speed over 5 minutes.

To perform an intravenous injection through a dropper, you need to dilute 2000 mg of the medication in an isotonic liquid or glucose solution (0.1 l).

Teenagers over 12 years of age, and adults should also take 1000 mg of the drug at 12-hour intervals. The dose can be increased in severe forms of the disease - up to 3-4 g per day (it should be used in 3-4 injections, 1 g each). No more than 12 g of the drug can be used per day.

Newborns should be given 50-100 mg/kg of Cefosin per day, at 6-12 hour intervals.

If the patient has impaired renal function, the dose should be reduced. If pseudomembranous colitis develops during therapy, the drug should be discontinued. In the case of a treatment cycle lasting more than 10 days, blood counts should be monitored. The drug should be used with caution in people with a history of allergy to penicillin.

Use Cefosin during pregnancy

During pregnancy, the medication can be used only in cases where the probable benefit to the woman is more expected than the possibility of complications for the fetus. Ceftriaxone is able to pass through the placenta.

It is prohibited to use Cefosin before childbirth in the 3rd trimester due to the increased risk of bilirubin encephalopathy.

Small amounts of the drug are excreted in breast milk. Therefore, if you use ceftriaxone, you should stop breastfeeding.

Contraindications

Among the contraindications:

  • the presence of severe intolerance to the drug;
  • chronic renal failure;
  • ulcerative form of colitis of a non-specific nature.

Overdose

In case of intoxication, tremors or convulsions appear, and encephalopathy develops.

Symptomatic measures are carried out to eliminate disorders.

Interactions with other drugs

Use together with loop diuretics, as well as aminoglycosides or polymyxin increases the risk of developing kidney damage.

Cefosin increases the risk of bleeding when used with NSAIDs or antiplatelet agents.

Medicines that block tubular secretion activity increase cefotaxime levels and significantly inhibit excretion.

Combined use with ethyl alcohol does not cause the development of disulfiram-like symptoms.

It does not have pharmaceutical compatibility when mixed in the same syringe with solutions of other antibiotics.

Storage conditions

Cefosin can be stored at temperatures up to 25°C. The finished medicinal liquid can be stored at such a temperature for a maximum of 12 hours; when stored in the refrigerator - a maximum of 5 days.

Shelf life

Cefosin can be used within 36 months from the date of manufacture of the therapeutic drug.

Application for children

It is prohibited to prescribe to children under 2.5 years of age (administration of intramuscular injections). It is also necessary to use very carefully in newborns.

Analogues

The analogs of the drug are Cetax, Talcef, and also Cefotaxime and Cefabol with Cefantral.

Reviews

Cefosin is a member of the third-generation cephalosporins, which are considered highly effective antibiotics – they can eliminate a large number of different bacteria (gram-negative and -positive).

There are also negative reviews regarding the drug, but they are most likely written by people who used it for infections caused by resistant bacteria. For any bacterial infections, it is necessary to determine whether the pathogen is sensitive to the antibiotic. For this, a test is required (especially for people who reacted to the use of penicillins and cephalosporins).

Among the disadvantages, most patients highlight the severe pain of injections, as well as the presence of negative symptoms (mainly signs of allergies and gastrointestinal disorders).
