Often, when talking about pressure, most of us associate it with the words "high", "hypertension", etc. However, there is a fairly large percentage of people who suffer not from high, but from low pressure. Low pressure causes considerable discomfort: constant fatigue, drowsiness, decreased mental and physical performance. As a result, hypotensive patients (people with low pressure) begin to look for some means or medications that increase pressure.
Today we will try to evaluate most of the medications that people with low blood pressure most often resort to, and determine whether they are really capable of performing their function - lowering blood pressure.
What medications increase blood pressure?
With low blood pressure, patients rarely consult a doctor, since often the specialist can only give certain advice on changing their lifestyle:
- take more walks in the fresh air;
- exercise;
- in the morning take contrast procedures and shower;
- eat well;
- get enough sleep (sleep at least 8 hours a day);
- avoid overexertion, both physical and mental.
Indeed, such simple advice can have a certain effect. However, in some cases, you still have to turn to medication.
What medications increase blood pressure?
- Caffeine is the most popular stimulant in the world. In pharmacology, it is also known as "trimethylxanthine" - a white powdery substance with a bitter taste. Most often, caffeine is used in medicine as a cardiac stimulant, a mild diuretic and a drug that dilates peripheral blood vessels. Caffeine can temporarily stabilize blood pressure in hypotension. Interestingly, at normal pressure, the drug has virtually no effect on it, while at low pressure, it brings the indicators back to normal. But you can't abuse caffeine: in large doses, it can harm the body and even cause a certain addiction.
- Tincture of lemongrass is an alcohol-based remedy, taken in the amount of 25 drops (diluted in 100 ml of water) 15 minutes before meals, two or three times a day, but not at night. If the tincture is taken in the afternoon, it can cause insomnia.
- Ginseng tincture – in addition to stabilizing blood pressure, the drug strengthens the immune system and increases performance. The tincture should not be taken at night, as well as in childhood and during pregnancy and lactation. The optimal single dose of the drug is 20 drops.
- Eleutherococcus is an ancient remedy used for chronic fatigue syndrome, frequent stress, and to restore strength after long illnesses or constant and significant physical exertion. Eleutherococcus can be purchased in tablets, capsules, tincture or dry raw material for brewing. Choose the form of the drug that suits you best. The most commonly used is liquid extract of Eleutherococcus. It is recommended to take 15-30 drops up to 3 times a day, duration - up to 1 month.
- Leuzea extract is a herbal preparation that normalizes blood pressure, strengthens the immune system, and has a general tonic effect. Increases the body's resistance to excessive loads. Leuzea is used in the amount of 20-30 drops up to 3 times a day. If you purchased Leuzea in tablets, then take 1-2 tablets up to 3 times a day.
All of the above drugs are, to varying degrees, stimulants of the nervous and cardiovascular systems. Such stimulation increases vascular tone, which causes vasoconstriction and increased blood pressure.
All the listed remedies, as they say, have been tested by time, their effectiveness in treating low blood pressure has long been beyond doubt.
Now let's analyze the means that people use on their own to increase blood pressure.
Citramon to increase blood pressure
Standard components of Citramon are:
- acetylsalicylic acid – eliminates inflammation, normalizes temperature, reduces pain and thins the blood;
- paracetamol – reduces tissue swelling, normalizes temperature and reduces pain;
- caffeine – stimulates the nervous system, respiratory function and cardiac activity, improves vascular tone and blood circulation, increases performance.
Some manufacturers add citric acid and cocoa to the preparation to normalize cellular respiration processes.
Due to the caffeine content in the drug, Citramon can stabilize low blood pressure. However, for this purpose it is recommended to take 2 tablets at a time, or one, but wash it down with a cup of coffee or strong tea.
It is not recommended to use the drug during pregnancy.
Does Askofen increase or decrease blood pressure?
Askofen is a drug similar in composition and action to citramon: the same active ingredients (aspirin, paracetamol and caffeine), only in a different proportion. The action of askofen is primarily aimed at reducing pain, stopping inflammation and lowering temperature. Due to the caffeine content, the drug increases the excitability of the central nervous system, reduces fatigue, improves concentration and mental activity.
Ascofen is usually taken to relieve dental and headache pain, as well as pain in joint diseases, neuritis, and painful discomfort during menstruation.
Does Askofen increase or decrease blood pressure? Askofen increases blood pressure if its values are below normal, that is, it stabilizes low blood pressure. For this purpose, it is recommended to drink 2 Askofen tablets at once. With initially normal blood pressure, the drug increases blood pressure slightly and briefly. Doctors do not recommend taking Askofen for more than 5 days in a row.

Does Coficil Plus increase blood pressure?
Koficil plus is an analogue of the above-mentioned citramon and askofen. It is also represented by the active ingredients aspirin, paracetamol and caffeine. Koficil plus is classified as an analgesic with anti-inflammatory and psychostimulating activity.
Koficil Plus increases blood pressure, and this effect is explained by the presence of caffeine in the drug. Caffeine has a stimulating effect on the respiratory and vasomotor systems, expands the lumen of blood vessels, and increases labor productivity.
Koficil Plus is prescribed after meals, 1-2 tablets up to 3 times a day. The maximum daily dosage is up to 6 tablets. It is not recommended to take the drug more often than once every 4 hours, as well as for more than 5 days in a row.
When taking excessive doses of Koficil Plus, rapid heartbeat, tinnitus, increased blood pressure and bleeding may develop. In such situations, you should wash out the stomach and take sorbents.
Does Koficil increase or decrease blood pressure? The drug Koficil cannot decrease blood pressure, but can only increase it.
Does pu-erh increase blood pressure?
According to Chinese tea classification, Puer is classified as a dark tea. However, it is not black tea: such teas have many differences in the stages of their production.
Puer is prepared for a long time. The first stage – the fermentation stage – lasts about 1.5 months. Then the tea is aged for at least another year, during which those very useful properties of tea are formed, which distinguish it from other teas. Moreover, the longer Puer is aged, the more healing it becomes. Several varieties of Puer are known, which were made more than a century ago: now their cost is estimated at thousands of dollars per 1 kg.
In our country we can buy less expensive, but no less useful teas:
- raw Puer (Shen);
- ready Puer (Shu).
So, does Puer increase blood pressure? The fact is that many properties of this tea depend on the type of tea and the method of its preparation.
For example, raw Sheng Puer normalizes blood pressure if its indicators are low or slightly high. At the same time, the drink cleanses the circulatory system, improves tissue nutrition in the body, and helps digestion.
Shu Puer is a more fermented tea. It is not recommended to drink more than 3 cups of this tea per day. Of course, this tea is also extremely useful: it lowers the amount of cholesterol in the blood, serves as a preventive measure for heart and vascular diseases, and helps remove harmful substances and toxins from the body. Shu Puer lifts the mood, improves productivity, and normalizes metabolic processes. But if you are prone to high blood pressure, constant or excessive consumption of the drink can provoke an increase in blood pressure.
If you have unstable blood pressure, but you cannot give up drinking Pu-erh tea, then try to brew it weak and drink no more than 2 or 3 cups a day, or switch to drinking Sheng Pu-erh: its effect on the body is milder.

Does Cordiamine increase blood pressure?
Cordiamine is an analeptic that stimulates the central nervous system and chemoreceptors. The drug's ability to stimulate the vasomotor center leads to increased peripheral vascular resistance, which in turn provokes an increase in blood pressure. As a result of taking the drug, the patient's breathing quickens, becomes deeper and fuller, the pressure rises to normal, and consciousness becomes clearer.
As a rule, cordiamine is used in cases of a sharp drop in blood pressure, that is, in states of shock, collapse, fainting, acute poisoning and suffocation.
The drug is produced in the form of drops for oral administration or as a solution for injection. Adults take cordiamine 20-40 drops up to 3 times a day, or 1 to 2 ml by injection (s/c, i/m, i/v).
When taking excessively large doses of the drug, cordiamine increases blood pressure above normal, convulsions and overexcitation may occur. Use of the drug requires careful selection of dosages and medical supervision.
Does creatine increase blood pressure?
Creatine is an amino acid sports supplement that increases endurance and promotes muscle mass growth. Thanks to this substance, the feeling of fatigue is eliminated, which allows you to withstand more intense training, and also accelerates the recovery of the muscular system and the body as a whole after long-term loads.
It is possible that creatine increases blood pressure, since the drug retains some fluid in the body, which can increase the load on the heart and provoke a slight increase in blood pressure. However, this effect is observed only in a very small number of people taking creatine. In the rest, blood pressure and diuresis do not change.
To avoid an increase in blood pressure when using creatine, you should avoid drinking coffee and alcohol while taking the drug (however, it is better to avoid alcohol regardless of taking creatine). The drug is generally well tolerated.

Does Ketorol increase blood pressure?
Ketorol is an anti-inflammatory non-steroidal agent, an analgesic. The active component is ketorolac, which is part of many anti-inflammatory drugs, has a predominantly analgesic effect.
Ketorol is prescribed for severe and very severe pain, including pain syndrome associated with oncological processes or the postoperative period. The drug is produced in tablet form, or as an intramuscular or intravenous injection.
One of the possible side effects of Ketorol is a slight increase in blood pressure. However, it should be noted that such an increase is not observed in all patients, but only in people prone to hypertension and having certain problems with regulating blood pressure in the body.
Moreover, you should not take Ketorol if you are taking blood pressure lowering medications or diuretics, as Ketorol reduces their effectiveness.
Does propolis increase blood pressure?
Propolis - popularly known as "bee glue" - is a product produced by bees from resinous substances collected from plants. The beneficial properties of propolis are explained by the mass of active components included in the product. Propolis is known as an antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal agent that relieves inflammation, heals wounds, restores damaged tissue, and strengthens the immune system. It has been proven that propolis strengthens teeth and prevents caries.
This beekeeping product is an excellent biological stimulant: it improves the function of all organs and systems of the body, eliminates fatigue, and increases mental and physical activity.
Propolis has a beneficial effect on fat metabolism in hypertensive patients.
The study of the effect of propolis on high blood pressure was conducted by specialists from Bulgaria. The experiment involved patients who had long suffered from hypertension (on average, 4-5 years). Before the study, they were hospitalized, while canceling all medications that affect blood pressure. Propolis for further therapy was used as a 30% alcohol-based solution. Patients took 40 drops three times a day, 1 hour before meals. Upon completion of the treatment, most patients experienced relief from headaches, dizziness and ringing in the ears, relief from heart pain, and stabilization of cardiac activity. Blood pressure stabilized in 75% of subjects, and remained unchanged in only 25%.
Thus, we can say with confidence that propolis does not increase blood pressure, but lowers it.
How to prepare a propolis solution in alcohol:
- crushed propolis is poured with medical alcohol in a ratio of 1:5;
- place in a dark place (room temperature) for 4 days, shaking periodically;
- filter the solution through gauze, add alcohol to 400 ml.
You have obtained the very same medicinal alcohol solution of propolis that lowers blood pressure.
Do antibiotics increase blood pressure?
Antibiotics are drugs without which it is difficult to imagine the treatment of most infectious diseases these days. These are substances of animal, plant, bacterial or synthetic etiology, which are designed to suppress the vital activity and development of microbes, as well as completely destroy them. Antibiotics themselves act only on the microbial cell, but do not affect the activity of the heart and vascular system. Their effect does not affect the regulatory processes in the body if all the rules for taking antibiotics are followed.
Are there cases when antibiotics increase blood pressure?
Many people know that alcohol and medications are incompatible in most cases. But few people follow this rule. But the combination of alcohol and antibiotics can provoke not only an increase in the toxic effect on the body, but also a fatal outcome. Why is this possible?
Alcoholic beverages have a very pronounced effect on metabolic processes, as well as on the effectiveness of almost all medications, including antibiotics. In addition, alcohol interferes with the normal functioning of liver enzymes, which are responsible for the separation of antibiotics. All these processes lead to the appearance of many undesirable side effects:
- the occurrence of dyspeptic disorders, mainly in the form of attacks of nausea and debilitating vomiting;
- disruptions in the functioning of the cardiovascular system;
- difficulty breathing;
- a strong increase in blood pressure.
Remember that alcohol and antibiotics when taken at the same time are a big toxic load on the liver. And if the liver begins to experience big overloads, then it becomes quite possible for the pressure to increase.

Does ascorbic acid increase blood pressure?
Vitamin C has a powerful restorative effect, ensures the normal course of oxidation-reduction reactions, regulates metabolic processes. It has long been proven that ascorbic acid affects the permeability of the capillary wall, blood clotting, and the synthesis of collagen fibers. Without the presence of this vitamin, it is difficult to imagine the process of producing steroid hormones, the formation of RNA and DNA.
Vitamin C is prescribed for both the prevention and treatment of diseases such as scurvy, increased bleeding, infections and intoxications of the body, atherosclerosis, long-term non-healing wounds, burns and ulcers, excessive stress on the body, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Indeed, in some cases, ascorbic acid can increase blood pressure. The fact is that the recommended dosage of vitamin C is 0.05-1 g three times a day after meals, or 1-3 ml of a 5% solution of ascorbic acid. The duration of treatment should be determined by a doctor. If the drug is taken for a long time and without control, without observing the dosage, or taking the drug in excess of the dose, this can provoke kidney irritation and an increase in blood pressure.
The fact that ascorbic acid increases blood pressure is not a direct effect, but a side effect of the drug when used incorrectly or for a long time. Ascorbic acid is not prescribed specifically to affect blood pressure.

Does pentalgin increase blood pressure?
Pentalgin is a complex pain reliever that combines several ingredients:
- paracetamol is an analgesic that relieves fever, pain and swelling;
- naproxen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug;
- caffeine is a psychostimulant;
- drotaverine – eliminates spasms;
- Pheniramine – blocks histamine receptors.
Does pentalgin increase blood pressure? At low or normal blood pressure, the drug may not have an effect on blood pressure, since the slight hypertensive effect of caffeine is compensated by the vasodilatory effect of drotaverine. However, in severe stages of hypertension, the use of the drug is undesirable, since cases of increased blood pressure are possible.
Pentalgin can also increase blood pressure with uncontrolled use of the drug in quantities exceeding the therapeutic recommended doses. The maximum daily dosage of pentalgin is 4 tablets. The duration of treatment is no more than 3-5 days.
Does Echinacea lower or raise blood pressure?
Echinacea is a natural herbal remedy. The main properties of the plant are strengthening the immune system and eliminating signs of an inflammatory reaction. Echinacea preparations enhance the antimicrobial effect of neutrophils and macrophages, activate the synthesis of interleukin, improve metabolic processes, especially in the liver and urinary system.
Echinacea is irreplaceable for boosting immunity during long-term infectious diseases, and during nervous and physical exhaustion.
Long-term use of Echinacea, as well as use of the drug in excessive doses, can cause insomnia, dizziness, irritability, increase the excitability of the central nervous system, and increase blood pressure.
Echinacea is not recommended for use in blood diseases, collagenoses, multiple sclerosis, autoimmune diseases, as well as during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Does Nise increase blood pressure?
Nise (nimesulide) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that eliminates signs of inflammation, normalizes temperature and relieves pain.
The drug may cause tissue swelling due to fluid retention. This may trigger a slight increase in blood pressure.
Patients with hypertension are not recommended to take Nise, as this drug reduces the therapeutic effect of other medications that lower blood pressure, as well as some diuretics (water pills). In addition, long-term use of Nise or taking an incorrect dosage can trigger an increase in blood pressure.
When using Nise, it is necessary to periodically monitor blood pressure readings.

Does Ibuprofen raise blood pressure?
Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. In terms of anti-inflammatory effect, it is between the well-known drugs Indomethacin and Butadion. It relieves pain and normalizes body temperature much better than a drug such as aspirin.
Most often, Ibuprofen is prescribed for arthritis, pain of various origins (headache, neuritis, myositis, toothache, menstrual pain), as well as for fever and febrile conditions (from colds to complex infectious diseases).
Ibuprofen may increase blood pressure: this is one of the possible side effects of this drug. Particular caution should be exercised when prescribing Ibuprofen to patients with liver dysfunction, as an increase in the toxic load on the liver can lead to an increase in blood pressure - portal hypertension.
It is strongly not recommended to use Ibuprofen specifically to increase blood pressure in case of hypotension.

Does Actovegin increase blood pressure?
Actovegin improves metabolic processes in tissues, improves their nutrition, stimulates recovery. The drug is effective in ischemic stroke, encephalopathy, neurological pathologies, arterial and venous circulation disorders.
Actovegin does not increase blood pressure. On the contrary, the drug tends to lower the readings. Actovegin is often prescribed for hypertension of the cerebral vessels, because the drug can affect the lumen of the vessels, moderately expanding them. Of course, with a severe increase in pressure, the drug is unlikely to help, but with a periodic slight increase - quite.
In severe hypertension, Actovegin can be prescribed in combination with other antihypertensive drugs and diuretics. In such cases, Actovegin is administered intravenously.

Does Pentalgin increase blood pressure?
Pentalgin is a painkiller, a combination with analgesic, anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and antipyretic effects.
The drug contains:
- paracetamol – normalizes temperature and relieves pain;
- naproxen – relieves inflammation, alleviates pain and lowers temperature;
- caffeine – dilates blood vessels, increases brain activity, eliminates fatigue and drowsiness, tones blood vessels;
- drotaverine – relieves spasms of blood vessels and smooth muscles;
- Pheniramine – blocks histamine receptors, enhances the effect of paracetamol and naproxen.
Pentalgin is prescribed 1 tablet up to 3 times a day. The maximum daily dosage is up to 4 tablets. One tablet of the drug contains 50 mg of caffeine, which may well affect the increase in blood pressure. However, this effect is somewhat compensated by the vasodilatory effect of drotaverine. Thus, pentalgin increases blood pressure if it is initially low, or the patient has a tendency to high blood pressure. However, for this you should take 2 or more Pentalgin tablets.
Medicines that increase blood pressure are often used for signs of fatigue, weakness, decreased performance, and to increase endurance during prolonged exercise. Such drugs should not be taken without first measuring blood pressure. The best solution before taking such medications is to consult a medical specialist.
