Alergomax is an anti-edematous medication that is intended for local use. Included in the group of means of sympathomimetics. This is a complex medicine that contains dimetinden with phenylephrine.

The drug reduces the volume of secretions secreted from the nose, and helps to clear the nasal ducts, while not disturbing the physiological activity of the nasal mucosa, as well as ciliated epithelium.

Indications Allergomax

It is used to eliminate the symptoms of nasal congestion, cold, hay fever, sinusitis in the chronic and active stage, non-seasonal rhinitis of an allergic nature, as well as rhinitis in the chronic and active phase, and vasomotor rhinitis. As an auxiliary substance it can be used in the case of the active phase of otitis media.

Appointed in preparation for surgery on the nose or after it (here - to eliminate the edema of the paranasal sinuses and the nasal mucosa).

Release form

The release of the medication is realized in the form of a nasal spray - inside the 15-l flasks, which are equipped with a special spray tip.

Pharmacodynamics

Phenylephrine falls into the category of amine sympathomimetics. Appointed in the form of a nasal decongestant with moderate vasoconstrictor influence. It selectively stimulates the activity of α1-adrenergic endings of the cavernous tissues of the veins inside the nasal mucosa. As a result, the edema of the mucous membrane, as well as the paranasal sinuses quickly and permanently disappears.

Dimetinden is an antagonist of the H1-terminations of histamine and has anti-allergic activity. Demonstrates effectiveness when administered in small portions and is tolerated without complications.

Pharmacokinetics

The drug is prescribed for local use, and therefore its effect does not correlate with plasma indicators of the active elements.

In case of unintentional ingestion, absorption occurs, at which the bioavailability level of phenylephrine decreases and equals approximately 38%; the term half-life is about 2.5 hours.

The total bioavailability of dimetinden when administered orally in the form of a solution is approximately 70%; half-life is about 6 hours.

Dosing and administration

Before starting the application procedure, it is necessary to clean the nasal cavity well.

Such dosages are usually used - 1-2 injections into the area of each nostril, 3-4 times a day.

Bottle should be held in a vertical position, tipped up. When inserting a nebulizer into the nostril, the head must be kept straight. Next, you need to 1-click on the sprayer, pull the nozzle out of the nose, and unclench it. When performing the injection you need to breathe a little nose. The term of therapy should be a maximum of 1 week (taking into account the intensity of the pathology).

Children age 6-12 years old procedure is carried out only in the presence of an adult.

Use Allergomax during pregnancy

Testing related to the study of the use of dimetinden with phenylephrine during pregnancy and HB has not been performed. Given the possible development of systemic vasoconstrictor effect of phenylephrine, it is required to abandon the introduction of drugs to pregnant women.

Do not use the drug during breastfeeding.

Contraindications

It is contraindicated to appoint persons with a strong intolerance regarding the elements of the drug.

Due to the presence of phenylephrine, the drug, like other vasoconstrictors, is not used for angle-closure glaucoma and atrophic rhinitis, and in addition for those who use MAOI (or used them during the previous 2 weeks).

Overdose

Often, overdose does not develop any violations. Gastric pain, fatigue, agitation, blanching of the epidermis, weak tachycardia, and an increase in blood pressure values were reported individually. It is also possible the appearance of such disorders associated with sympathomimetic action: premature contraction of the heart ventricles, potentiation of the heartbeat, trembling, pain in the occiput or tremor. In addition, dizziness, vomiting, moderate sedation, nausea, and anticholinergic symptoms in mild form may occur.

Activated carbon is prescribed to the patient (laxatives may be prescribed to small children (gastric lavage is not necessary)). You also need to drink as much fluid as possible.

The increase in blood pressure associated with phenylephrine can be eliminated with α-adrenoreceptors.

Interactions with other drugs

Vasoconstrictors should be used very carefully in people who use tricyclics and antihypertensive drugs (for example, β-blockers), because their combination can lead to potentiation of the pressor effect of phenylephrine.
