Pharmacodynamics

The active ingredient is biperiden, an anticholinergic agent with a central type of medicinal effect.

The therapeutic effect develops by suppressing the activity of cholinergic neurons within the structural element - the striatum of the brain. The drug has a ganglionic blocking effect, and in addition has antispasmodic and moderate m-anticholinergic properties of the peripheral type.

Akineton has the ability to eliminate muscle rigidity and catalepsy caused by the use of neuroleptics, as well as tremors of the limbs due to the use of cholinergic drugs (such as pilocarpine).

The medication may lead to the development of psychomotor agitation.
