The dermoid cyst of the skin is a developmental defect. There is from birth or appears in the first years of life, can be located everywhere, but on the face, especially periorbital, in the nose, on the scalp and neck. It is a subcutaneous, painless, slowly increasing knot with a diameter of up to 4 cm, rarely more, covered with normal skin color.
Pathomorphology of the dermoid cyst
The cavity of the cyst is lined with epidermis with epidermal appendages of the skin: hair follicles, greasy and sweat glands, which, as a rule, have a mature structure. The cavity also contains horny masses, lipids, and often terminal hair. Sometimes a dermoid cyst reveals a cartilaginous or bone tissue.
