Gooseberries are a berry that many people do not pay proper attention to. And very much in vain, because it is quite tasty and incredible useful delicacy, which in diabetes brings particular benefit. Maybe the fruits of gooseberries and not so attractive in appearance as raspberries or strawberries, but their chemical composition is not inferior to other berries, and in some cases even surpasses.
Benefits
Especially rich in gooseberries with vitamins C and K, in smaller quantities can be found in the berries vitamins A, E, PP, beta-carotene, B vitamins (7 varieties). Attractive and mineral composition of gooseberries in which in the first place are manganese, molybdenum and copper, followed by calcium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus, iron, zinc. Notable is the high content of chrome gooseberry in fruits.
Molybdenum is not so important component in diabetes, although it takes part in the metabolism. The fact is that usually there is no deficit of this substance in the body. But chromium in quantities found in the fruits of gooseberry, is very useful for the pancreas, but with insulin deficiency, a lack of chromium is usually diagnosed. The content of chromium in gooseberry is ideal, than can not boast of other fruits and berries.
At first glance, it may seem that gooseberries are quite caloric, but this is an erroneous opinion. Its calorific value is in the same range as in the other berries described above (about 44-45 kcal). In 100 grams of gooseberry there are only 9 g of carbohydrates, which is also not a high index and makes it possible to include a berry useful for the pancreas. After all, with diabetes, this organ suffers first of all, which disrupts the entire metabolism.
Different varieties of gooseberries can differ in the content of natural sugars, among which there is glucose, and fructose, and sucrose. It is better for diabetics to choose varieties with a minimum sugar content, giving preference to unripe berries with sweet and sour taste.
The maximum benefit from berries with a high content of vitamin C, which breaks down at high temperatures, can be obtained by using it in fresh form. But in order to diversify the diet, you can include in it juices from fresh berries, jelly, compotes and jam, cooked with the addition of sugar substitutes (xylitol, sorbitol).

Contraindications
The fruits of this plant with a rather delicate taste can be considered one of the safest natural medicines, because they have a minimum number of contraindications and rarely cause allergic reactions. Fresh fruits can be considered as a provocateur of complications with exacerbation of gastrointestinal diseases (gastritis, stomach ulcer, duodenitis, colitis, enteritis, etc.), because they, like most other berries, have a fairly high content of organic acids.
