Dermoid cyst of the skin is a developmental defect. It exists from birth or appears in the first years of life, can be located anywhere, but most often on the face, especially periorbitally, in the nose area, on the scalp and neck. It is a subcutaneous, painless, slowly increasing node with a diameter of up to 4 cm, rarely more, covered with normal-colored skin.
Pathomorphology of dermoid cyst
The cyst cavity is lined with epidermis with epidermal appendages of the skin: hair follicles, sebaceous and sweat glands, which, as a rule, have a mature structure. The cavity also contains horny masses, lipids, and often terminal hair. Sometimes cartilaginous or bone tissue is found in a dermoid cyst.
