Causes of foot pain
Many of the conditions discussed below may be accompanied by pain in the foot. The following are other causes of pain in the foot.
A stiff thumb. This condition is based on arthritis of the metatarsophalangeal joint. The movements in this joint are limited and painful. On the dorsal side of the joint can develop a ring of osteophytes. Treatment is carried out using arthrodesis or Keller surgery.
Pain in the feet of children. Children rarely complain of pain in the foot. If they talk about pain in the sole, then you should think first of all about the splinter. Shoe pressure on the protuberance of the scaphoid bone (or on the extra bone) or on the posterior ridge of the calcaneus may require surgical bone alignment. The cause of pain in the foot can be osteochondritis of the foot bones - the diagnosis is established radiological.
With Köhler's disease, the scaphoid bone suffers; with Freiberg disease - head of metatarsal bones; Severe disease occurs epiphysitis of the heel. Pain can decrease with the use of inserts in shoes (in some cases - gypsum forms).
Ingrown toenails. This disease occurs in both children and adults. Most often, the big toe is affected. Incorrect cutting of nails and the pressure of tight shoes predispose to immersion of the lateral edge of the nail plate into the soft tissues of the nail bed, which reacts to this by swelling and growth of "wild meat". Then the infection usually joins. Conservative treatment is that under the corners of the "wild meat" cotton wool impregnated with surgical alcohol is poured and wait until the nail grows, which is later cut straight, but so that its edges protrude somewhat above the edges of the nail bed. If the infectious process re-occurs in the area of the "ingrown nail", surgical intervention may be required - wedge resection of the nail, removal of the lateral margin of the nail, as well as interventions aimed at inhibiting the nail growth - removal of the nail bed (operative or with the help of phenol) remove the entire nail.
Pain in the anterior part of the foot in adults (metatarsalgia).
Increased pressure on the head of metatarsal bones causes their soreness. Treatment consists in the use of supporting insoles. Surgical intervention in such a state, if it is not a question of rheumatoid arthritis, is considered to be unpredictable.
Marching fractures. Usually occur in the diaphysis 2 and 3 metatarsal bones after a very long march. The tactics of treatment are expectant. If the pain is very sharp, then put the plaster on the foot and wait: the fusion of the fracture can relieve the patient of the pain.
Metatarsalgia Morton. The pain is due to the pressure on the interdigital neuromus between the metatarsal bones. The pain usually radiates into the interval between the III and IV metatarsal bones. Treatment consists in excision of a neuron.
