Serological diagnosis of pneumococcal infection is aimed at detecting the titer of anticapsular antibodies in the patient's blood serum. The increase in the antibody titer is considered to be diagnostic after 7-10 days for the study of paired sera.
Platelets are a blood element with a diameter of 2-4 microns, which is a "fragment" of the cytoplasm of the megakaryocytes of the bone marrow.
Plasminogen (profibrinolysin) is an inactive precursor of the enzyme plasmin (fibrinolysin). Determination of plasminogen is crucial for assessing the state of the fibrinolytic system.
Placental lactogen or placental somatomamotropin is a glycoprotein with a molecular mass of approximately 19,000. It is synthesized by syncytiotrophoblast from the early stages of pregnancy, while its content in the blood during physiologic pregnancy increases.
Phenobarbital is mainly used as an anticonvulsant. It is taken orally, the drug is almost completely (up to 80%) absorbed into the small intestine. The maximum concentration of the drug is achieved in 2-8 hours after a single oral intake through 1.5-2 hours after intramuscular injection.
In recent years, test systems have been developed that make it possible to determine antibodies of classes IgA, IgM and IgG to Bordetella pertussis antigens in serum by ELISA. IgM antibodies appear in the blood at the 3rd week from the onset of the disease, so they can be used to confirm the etiologic diagnosis. The dynamics of IgA antibody titer to Bordetella pertussis toxin is similar to that of IgM.
Pepsinogen I - the precursor of pepsin, is produced mainly by the main cells of the gland of the body of the stomach. A small part of pepsinogen I enters the blood, where its concentration is 6 times higher than that of pepsinogen II. Normally, pepsinogen I is found in the urine.
From school lessons we remember that a person, like any other living organism, consists of a multitude of cells. At the person of them it is totaled approximately 50 trillion.
Compared with the RSK, the ELISA method (which makes it possible to detect antibodies of IgM and IgG types) is more sensitive (according to different authors, from 49% to 94%). However, as with RSK, for use in the diagnostic purposes of ELISA, comparison of antibody titers in serum samples obtained from patients at the beginning and at the end of the disease is necessary.
Human papillomavirus (HPV) viruses are small DNA-containing oncogenic viruses that infect epithelial cells and induce proliferative lesions.
Human pancreatic elastase-1 belongs to the family of acidic elastases. It is present in the secretion of the pancreas and feces. The enzyme does not break down when passing through the intestine.
Pancreatic amylase in blood and urine is an important analysis that helps to identify pancreatitis as the main disease, along with other laboratory tests, as well as any other anomalies in the functioning of the pancreas.
