As a rule, with mucous discharge from the nose, drops or sprays, which act directly on the mucosa of the nasal cavity, are most often prescribed.
Such drugs have vasoconstrictive, anti-edematous and anti-allergic effect. However, there are also pills from the common cold, which eliminate not only the symptoms, but also the cause of the disease: for example, ARVI or allergy. These drugs are identified in a separate group, which we will consider.
Indications for the use of tablets from the common cold
Tablets from the common cold are different, both in composition and in the direction of the action. However, all of them are designed to eliminate the pathological secretion of mucus from the nose, which can be caused by allergy, microbial or viral infection, etc.
The most common cause of a common cold is viral disease. In this case, nasal secretions serve as the usual reaction of the body to a viral invasion, because its task in ARVI is to prevent the entry of a pathogenic agent and to quickly remove it, in this case with mucous secretions.
With an allergic rhinitis, mucus secretion is a protective reaction of the body to dust or pollen particles, to drugs, odors, wool, etc. To eliminate the swelling from the nasal mucosa, antihistamine tablets are prescribed in this case.
The rhinitis of the microbial etiology is most often the result of a viral disease, when the bacterial flora joins the inflammatory process. In this case, a separate pathology, called nasopharyngitis, develops.
In the advanced stage, a more complicated and protracted disease can also form - sinusitis. For its treatment, also apply a pill from the common cold, but in most cases, inflammation of the nasal sinuses requires complex and more complex treatment.
Names of tablets from the cold
Tablets from the common cold may differ: they are prescribed depending on the cause of the appearance of mucous secretions. Doctors allocate a number of medicines that can be effective for treating a common cold:
- antiallergic drugs;
- anti-inflammatory drugs;
- antibiotics;
- antiviral means;
- homeopathy.
In addition, to accelerate recovery, multivitamin complexes and tablets can be prescribed to stimulate the defenses of the body.

Homeopathic tablets from the cold
Homeopathic tablets are very popular in the treatment of the common cold, which accompanies acute respiratory viral infections and colds. Most doctors welcome the use of homeopathy, but only in combination with standard medication. Especially it concerns chronic or neglected rhinitis.
In addition to homeopathic medicines, which we mentioned above (Cinnabsin and Corizalia), the following drugs will help to speed up the treatment:
- Allium Cepa - a drug based on onions;
- Nuks Vomica is a remedy based on chilibukha, a toxic component containing strichnin alkaloids and brucine;
- Euphrasia is a drug based on the drug's eye;
- Arsenicum is anhydrous arsenious acid, used for medicinal purposes;
- Aconitum is a remedy in which the fighter is poisonous;
- Rumex - multivitamin, restorative preparation on the basis of curly (feed) sorrel;
- Mercurius is a mercury-based agent;
- Gelzemine is a preparation from the rhizome of yellow (wild) jasmine.
When choosing homeopathic tablets, possible contraindications and side effects should be considered.
Tablets from the common cold for children
The use of tablets from the common cold for the treatment of children is not welcomed by domestic pediatricians. Many tablets have restrictions for prescription in pediatrics. As a rule, the child is offered nasal drops and syrups for oral administration.
At the initial stage, the use of such tablets is allowed:
- Anaferon is a homeopathic antiviral and immunomodulating agent;
- Arbidol - an antiviral agent that is used in children from 3 years;
- Remantadine is an antiviral that is used in children from the age of 7.
In case of an allergic rhinitis the baby will be treated with the following means:
- Zirtek is an antihistamine drug, approved for use at 6 months of age;
- Astemizole - tablets from allergic rhinitis, which can be used for children from 6 years (up to 6 years of age, Astemizol is administered as a suspension);
- Claritin is an antiallergic drug that can be prescribed to children from 2 years of age.
Attention: before giving any of the medicines to a child, it is necessary to consult with a pediatrician.
Tablets from an allergic rhinitis
With mild forms of allergy, the common cold is successfully treated with antihistamines:
- Cetrin - is indicated for the complex treatment of seasonal and chronic rhinitis;
- Loratadin - is used to eliminate the symptoms of allergic rhinitis;
- Claritin - effective for the treatment of seasonal colds;
- Erius - is prescribed for allergic rhinitis and conjunctivitis.
But if the disease has a chronic course, then the doctor can prescribe corticosteroid drugs:
- Hydrocortisone - a drug that inhibits the production of basic biological substances that provoke the development of allergies;
- Prednisolone - is used mainly in emergency cases;
- Dexamethasone - used in the form of irrigation of the nasal mucosa.
Use of corticosteroid drugs is allowed only after they are prescribed by a doctor. Self-treatment with such drugs is fraught with extremely negative consequences.
Antibiotics from the common cold in tablets
Antibiotics from the common cold can be used only if the disease has acquired a chronic course, or there are complications in the form of inflammation of the paranasal sinuses.
Antibiotics help in the presence of an inflammatory process caused by a bacterial flora. Most common cold is the result of a viral disease or allergic reaction. In such cases, to take antibiotics, at least, it is not advisable.
When choosing an antibacterial drug it is desirable to pass a special analysis - an antibioticogram. The results of such an investigation will show to which particular preparation the microorganisms that caused the disease are sensitive. Treatment in this case will be guaranteed to be effective.
Cheap pill from cold
If the patient has contraindications to the use of drops or spray from the common cold, then you can try to cure the disease by oral means. Tablets from the common cold and cold cause a temporary but alleviating symptom. Usually the effect of one tablet lasts up to 6 hours.
- Flukold;
- Gripout;
- Gripgo;
- Gripex;
- Effect.
The listed means refer to combined anti-cold medications. Their main action is the removal of swelling from the nasal mucosa, lowering of temperature, elimination of head and muscle pain, relief of breathing and general condition.

How to cure a cold without tablets?
In the initial stage of the common cold you can try to do without pills and any other medicines. This will help alternative methods of treatment:
- nasal inhalation with infusions of needles;
- warming of the bridge of the nose with a warm bag of salt;
- steaming of feet in hot water with the addition of dry mustard;
- Burying in the nose a few drops of menthol or eucalyptus oil;
- burying fresh aloe juice or colanhoe;
- inhaling the smell of onions or garlic;
- washing of the nasal passages with saline solution or sea salt solution.
Do not forget that the treatment of the common cold with the help of alternative prescriptions can be done only at the very beginning of the disease, and only in the absence of complications.
If, for 2 or 3 days, alternative drugs did not help, then you need to see a doctor who will prescribe the necessary drugs and tablets from the common cold.
