One of the possible reasons for the appearance of whitish discharge from the urethra in men is urethritis. With this disease, an infectious lesion of the mucous membrane of the urethra occurs with a viral or bacterial infection. This leads to the development of an inflammatory process and the formation of tissue edema. [ 1 ]
The risk group for this pathology includes people who have a high chance of contracting sexually transmitted diseases. Urethritis develops against the background of inflammation of the organs of the urethra and due to the exacerbation of chronic infections of the body.
In addition to pathological discharge, the disease has the following symptoms:
- Discomfort when urinating (pain, burning, stinging).
- Discharge of blood or pus in the urine.
- Adhesion of the edges of the urethra.
- Unpleasant sensations when the urethra comes into contact with underwear.
- Redness of the area around the urethra.
In addition to urethritis, the appearance of white fluid from the urethra occurs against the background of ureaplasmosis, chlamydia, mycoplasmosis, balanitis, balanoposthitis and various STDs.
A urologist is involved in diagnosing this problem. The doctor examines the patient, collects anamnesis and gives a referral for a set of laboratory and instrumental studies. Based on the diagnostic results, a treatment plan and preventive recommendations are drawn up.
White discharge during and after urination in men
The process of emptying the bladder is urination. Normally, it does not cause pain and is not accompanied by the release of any fluids other than urine. The male urethra is a tube that removes fluid from the bladder and at the same time protects the organ from genitourinary infections. Part of the urethra passes through the prostate, so any pathological processes in the prostate gland are reflected in the process of urination.
The appearance of white discharge during or after emptying the bladder may indicate problems such as:
- Inflammatory diseases of the genitourinary system
- Inflammation of the urethra.
- Prostatitis (acute, chronic).
- Prostate stones.
- Inflammation of the bladder.
- Tumor lesions of the genitourinary tract.
- Venereal diseases.
- Pyelonephritis.
- Infectious diseases:
- Chlamydia.
- Candidiasis.
- Trichomoniasis. [ 2 ]
- Ureaplasmosis.
- Prostatitis. [ 3 ]
- Cystitis.
- Gonorrhea. [ 4 ]
Let's take a closer look at some of the possible diseases:
- Urethritis is an inflammation/infection of the urethra. In addition to pathological discharge, it is accompanied by pain and problems with urination. In most cases, infection occurs during unprotected sexual intercourse and is caused by bacteria or chlamydia. Without timely treatment, there is a risk of spreading the infection to other parts of the genitourinary system.
- Cystitis is an inflammation/infection of the bladder. The urethra, prostate, and kidneys may be involved in the pathological process. The disease develops due to mechanical or chemical irritation of the mucous membrane, hormonal changes in the body, and violation of intimate hygiene rules. It manifests itself as frequent urge to urinate, burning, and the passage of white discharge of varying consistency. [ 5 ]
- Pyelonephritis is an inflammation or infection of the kidneys (the organ in which urine is formed). It manifests itself as a feverish condition, dull pain in the kidneys and discharge. [ 6 ]
To determine the cause of the disorder, a laboratory study of the discharged fluid and instrumental diagnostics of the genitourinary system are carried out.
