If an allergic reaction to medications is a widespread phenomenon, then vitamins cause allergies very rarely. The fact is that they themselves cannot cause allergic reactions, most often this is the "work" of the auxiliary substances contained in them. This happens in the case of an allergic reaction to vitamin D, however, only a doctor can say whether it was the cause. In recent years, there have been more frequent cases of parents complaining about an allergy to vitamin D in their children.

Symptoms of Vitamin D Allergy

Vitamin D is given to small children after a month from their birth. Most often in soluble form - one drop per day. The composition of such a drug contains many highly adapted mixtures. There is a risk of overdose if you guess wrong with the amount of vitamin. This causes the corresponding reactions - vomiting, abdominal pain in the baby. In addition, an allergic reaction occurs if vitamin D is in an oil solution. This is quite rare for an aqueous solution.

Excessive vitamin D requirements in children are expressed in two forms:

  • acute intoxication (often observed in six-month-old children if the consumption of vitamin D exceeded the norm, and also if there is an individual intolerance to it. The child's appetite decreases, there is vomiting, the body is dehydrated, there are constipation and loose stools, in rare cases there are convulsions);
  • chronic intoxication (if the body's need for vitamin D exceeds its requirements for six to eight weeks. Characteristic signs are weakness, sleep disturbances, increased irritability, joint pain, the large fontanelle closes faster than it should ideally, dystrophy develops, psychosis occurs, and kidney dysfunction occurs).

Vitamin D is important for the normal functioning of the body. If a person exceeds the daily requirement for it, then weakness, loss of appetite, constant thirst, nausea, vomiting, and difficulty breathing occur.

Diagnosis of Vitamin D Allergy

It is important to know which products contain vitamin D in large quantities. First of all, it is milk. Fish liver and eggs are rich in it.

Such an allergic reaction is very rare, to diagnose an allergy to vitamin D, an allergist must conduct a series of special tests. The main task for him is to identify the allergen contained in the medication. After all, the danger of this allergy is not only in the skin rash, but there is also a threat of damage to other important organs. Exceeding the body's need for vitamin D is established on the basis of blood and urine tests.

Treatment of Vitamin D Allergy

Treatment of vitamin D allergy should be carried out under the supervision of a specialist to avoid vitamin overdose. If the diagnosis reveals that the cause is an excess of vitamin D, then doctors recommend stopping taking the vitamin. If the allergic reaction does not subside, then antihistamines are taken, after consulting with the attending physician.

Prevention of allergy to vitamin D

If a child or an adult is prone to allergies, it is worth monitoring the process of taking vitamins and medications and consulting an allergist to avoid allergies, including to vitamin D.
