The sebaceous nevus is a hamartoma of the sebaceous glands, usually existing from birth, however, cases were recorded when this developmental defect was latent until the puberty period and only with the onset of the latter manifested itself clinically. Usually the sebaceous nevus exists in the form of a plaque of different configuration and size, with a fine-grained surface, varying degrees of a yellowish hue. Localization, as a rule, on the scalp, but it can be different - on the face, behind the eye area, inguinal fold, etc.
Pathomorphology of the sebaceous nevus. Papillomatosis and acanthosis of the epidermis. In the dermis, hyperplasia of the sebaceous glands consisting of mature cells. Usually around the expanded excretory ducts opening into the canal of the hair follicle or directly on the surface of the skin. In addition, numerous nodular accumulations of sebaceous glands are determined without visible connection with the excretory ducts. The glands have the usual structure - on the periphery are located dark small cells of the growth layer, to the center of the cell increase in size and have a fat-containing foamy cytoplasm .. In the central regions, cells can lose their outlines, becoming a fatty secret. The degree of differentiation of cells can be equal, including with the predominance of cells of the horny zone. This can cause some difficulty in differentiating the developmental malformation with the adenoma of the sebaceous gland. This option can be considered as the emergence of adenoma on the basis of the malformation of the sebaceous glands.
