Tooth root extraction (TRE) is the most unpleasant dental procedure. It depends on the localization and presence of pathologies, so it can be performed in different ways.
The operation of tooth root removal (radix dentis) should be performed by a professional dentist. The deep location of the roots and their deformed growth pose a particular danger during the operation. If the tooth root is damaged as a result of trauma, improper treatment of a dental disease and this causes unpleasant and painful sensations, then the UCD is quite complex. Let's consider the main dental indications for extraction:
- Destruction of the radix dentis of the tooth crown and the impossibility of replacing the tooth root with a prosthetic.
- Increased tooth mobility and problems with teething.
- Pathologies and complications from dental procedures and treatments.
- But in some situations, removing tooth roots is prohibited.
Let's look at the contraindications to performing a tooth root removal operation:
- The rehabilitation period after a stroke or heart attack, hypertensive crisis.
- Diseases of the circulatory and cardiovascular systems.
- Diseases of the nervous system and psychological problems.
Tooth root removal with the above-described contraindications is performed at the dentist's discretion. If the UKZ cannot be canceled, the operation is performed in a hospital setting to enable prompt resuscitation support. If there are indications for UKZ, the dentist works according to a pre-developed algorithm, let's look at it.
- Collecting anamnesis – the dentist will find out about the presence of allergic reactions to drugs, chronic diseases and other pathologies.
- Anesthesia – using anesthetics for the CT scan, the doctor numbs the area where the operation will be performed.
- Preparation – the dentist separates the gum from the tooth and bone tissue. This will make the operation easier. The doctor also applies forceps, which allow the ligamentous apparatus of the tooth attachment to the bone to be destroyed.
- Extraction of radix dentis, medicinal treatment of the socket and recommendations from the dentist to speed up recovery.
Wisdom tooth root removal
Removing the root of a wisdom tooth is not a complicated operation, which very rarely has complications and does not cause serious consequences. The entire procedure is performed under anesthesia, which allows the affected area to be anesthetized at the time of the operation. If the patient feels pain after the operation, he is prescribed painkillers and antibiotics that relieve pain and prevent the development of inflammatory processes.
The UCD procedure can be performed in various ways, depending on the location of the radix dentis, the presence of dental and chronic diseases. Before the operation, the dentist will find out about the presence of allergic reactions to certain drugs and antibiotics that will be used during the extraction, treatment and anesthesia. The rehabilitation period after the removal of the wisdom tooth root can last from one week to a month and depends entirely on the individual characteristics of the patient's body.
Removal of the root of a baby tooth
Removal of the root of a baby tooth is performed extremely rarely, since there must be special indications for this procedure. Baby teeth, like permanent teeth, have nerves and root canals. As the child grows and baby teeth are replaced by permanent ones, the radix dentis of the first teeth gradually dissolve, which is why the tooth begins to wobble and is easily extracted. Removing the roots of baby teeth before permanent teeth begin to erupt is not recommended. But in some situations, removing the root of a baby tooth is extremely necessary. Let's consider in which cases extraction is performed:
- Inflammatory processes and spread of infection.
- Presence of a cyst on the radix dentis.
- Tooth decay caused by caries.
- Periodontitis, pulpitis and gum fistulas.
All the above-described diseases and processes can lead to the destruction of the rudiments of permanent teeth. The root is extracted using special pliers. The instrument is designed for fragile children's teeth, so it does not destroy them. Particular attention is paid to the normal growth of permanent teeth. Therefore, after the extraction procedure, the oral cavity must be rinsed with antiseptics, which will not allow the development of infectious and inflammatory processes.
Tooth root apex removal
Extraction of the root tip of a tooth is prescribed when inflammation is detected in this area. As a rule, this occurs due to improper or inadequate oral care. Another common reason for extraction is curved radix dentis canals that are affected by bacteria. The extraction operation is performed by a dental surgeon. The doctor carefully trims the root tip of the diseased tooth and removes the inflamed tissue. After this, the dentist fills the root canal through the hole formed in the apex of the tooth and restores the functionality of the jaw.
If after the root tip is removed the root canal cannot be filled, the dentist installs a barrier in the tooth cut. This prevents bacterial infections and inflammatory processes. In some cases, the dentist fills the socket with a bone-restoring substance, which speeds up the healing process.
Removal of overgrown tooth roots
Removal of overgrown tooth roots is a serious dental operation that is performed under anesthesia. After the operation, the patient will have to undergo a long recovery course with IVs, antibiotics and injections. The operation is performed by a dental surgeon in the presence of an anesthesiologist who monitors the patient's blood pressure and the work of the cardiovascular system.
This extraction is associated with abnormal arrangement of teeth that disrupt the dental row, affect and damage adjacent teeth. In statmology, special treatment programs have been developed that help prevent overgrowth of radix dentis. As a rule, after removal of overgrown roots of teeth, the patient will undergo implantation or prosthetics to restore normal jaw function.
Removal of a rotten tooth root
Rotten root removal (RRRE) is a fairly common dental operation. Thus, lack of oral care, bad habits such as smoking and eating unhealthy food lead to the destruction of not only teeth, but also their radix dentis. RRRRE is a serious and dangerous operation, the results of which determine the integrity of the tooth body.
Sometimes suppuration is associated with diseases of the immune system or one of the internal organs. But in addition to possible complications, removing the root of a rotten tooth also causes aesthetic problems. Thus, a tooth with a rotting root has darkened enamel, and the patient suffers from sharp pain and a rather unpleasant odor from the mouth. Please note that radix dentis decay is an irreversible process that is much easier to prevent than to treat. Regular dental checkups, oral hygiene, and a healthy lifestyle are a guarantee of beautiful and healthy teeth.
Removal of tooth root cyst
Removal of a tooth root cyst is performed by surgical intervention. Since this is the most effective method of extraction, unlike therapeutic and medicinal "removal". Surgical UCD for a cyst can be performed by the following methods:
- Cystectomy is the most reliable, but at the same time complicated method. During the operation, the surgeon cuts out the cyst with the membrane and removes the damaged apex of the tooth root. After the operation, the doctor stitches the wound, prescribes the patient a course of antibiotics and antiseptic solutions for rinsing.
- Hemisection is the simplest method. During the operation, the surgeon removes the radix dentis cyst along with the affected tooth.
- Cystotomy is a surgical method of medium complexity. The only drawback of this method is the long postoperative period. Since, during the operation, the doctor removes only the anterior wall of the cyst and its contents, the remaining part grows together and is treated with medication, since it does not pose a danger to the radix dentis.
- Laser extraction is a modern, painless and highly effective procedure. During the operation, the cyst is completely removed, and the surrounding tissues of the tooth are disinfected, which prevents the development of inflammatory processes. Recovery after this method of extraction is very fast. The only disadvantage of this method is the high cost and the lack of necessary equipment in many dental clinics.
Complex tooth root extraction
Complex root canal extraction is a dangerous procedure that should only be performed by a professional surgeon. Let's look at cases that are considered extremely difficult to extract.
- Crooked or overgrown radix dentis – the shape of the tooth roots does not allow the tooth to be removed, damages and destroys adjacent teeth.
- A destroyed tooth (under the root or below the gum) – the difficulty is that the dental surgeon has nothing to grab onto during extraction.
- A brittle tooth is a tooth that has been treated with the resorcinol-formaldehyde method and has become crumbly even under light pressure. Brittle teeth are rotten, that is, decayed teeth, teeth affected by caries and other dental diseases.
- Incorrect (horizontal) position of the tooth or its incomplete eruption - this case concerns mainly wisdom teeth.
The difficulty of removal in all the above cases is that the dentist has to cut the gum for extraction, and this is extremely dangerous. Since it can cause damage or injury to the nerves and even a fracture of the jaw.
Removal of the tooth root through the gum
Removing a tooth root through the gum is the most complex dental operation. This procedure is called resection and can only be performed by professional surgeons and only in a modern clinic. As a rule, this operation is performed when removing the apex of a tooth root or a cyst. Using instruments, the surgeon makes an opening in the gum that opens access to the radix dentis and root canals. The dentist removes the root and securely seals the root canal. This is necessary to prevent infection.
The main indications for this operation are:
- Presence of cysts and granulomas on the radix dentis
- Damage to the apex of the tooth root
- Root canal curvature
- Fixed dentures
- Inability to unseal the root canal
But there are also contraindications for this operation: acute periodontitis. Most often, the operation is performed on the lateral and frontal incisors, the front teeth of the upper jaw and canines. Surgical intervention is performed under anesthesia. For a speedy recovery, the dentist injects a restorative solution and special drugs into the wound that accelerate the healing process and tissue regeneration. After this, the gum is sutured, and the tooth is secured with a crown if necessary.
Reviews of tooth root removal
Numerous positive reviews of tooth root removal indicate that this operation can have a positive result. Thus, pathologies in the growth of radix dentis, chronic dental diseases and problems with the cardiovascular or circulatory system present particular difficulties in extraction.
But positive reviews of tooth root removal are based on the professional work of dentists and surgeons. The doctor must correctly diagnose the problem, effectively perform the operation (choosing the least traumatic method) and prescribe effective restorative treatment during the rehabilitation period. All this suggests that the success of the operation largely depends on the professionalism of the dentist and the clinic where the surgical treatment is performed.
Cost of tooth root removal
The price of tooth root removal depends on the complexity of the operation and the method. Thus, a simple extraction in a private dental clinic costs from 300 UAH. And if it is necessary to apply stitches and draw up a postoperative recovery plan, the cost can increase to 1500 UAH. The price of tooth root removal in a state dental clinic is much lower. But, do not forget that, as a rule, such institutions do not have the necessary modern equipment (laser for painless extraction, etc.) for the most effective treatment. The final choice of treatment option and price can only be said by a dentist, after an examination. By the way, it is the dentist who will recommend a clinic or hospital for tooth extraction that will suit the patient's financial capabilities.
Tooth root removal is an unpleasant and often complicated procedure that requires the work of a professional dentist. The sooner the problem is diagnosed, the higher the chances that the tooth extraction will be without complications and the recovery will be quick.
