Many methods are used to treat erosion, such as cryodestruction, laser coagulation, diathermocoagulation, and drug therapy with suppositories. However, radio wave treatment of cervical erosion is recognized as the most effective.
This method is safe (it can be used even in patients who have not given birth), there are no scars on the cervix after it, and the erosion is completely removed and, as a rule, irreversibly. We will talk about the features of radio wave treatment further in our article.

Indications for radio wave treatment of cervical erosion
Radio wave therapy is currently considered one of the most promising methods of treating cervical erosion. This unique contactless procedure for soft tissue is based on the ability of tissue to evaporate under the influence of high-frequency waves, which are reproduced by a special knife. Radio waves allow the procedure to be carried out effectively and almost painlessly, without damaging nearby tissues, practically without causing bleeding, without the risk of further complications.
The use of a radio wave knife allows for simultaneous tissue dissection, disinfection and coagulation of opened vessels. The tissues are restored within a relatively short time, without causing cicatricial changes or deformation of the cervical walls.
Radio wave therapy is often used for cervical erosion. Indications for the use of such therapy include both erosion itself and congenital pseudo-erosion, endocervicosis (abnormal development of the cylindrical epithelial tissue of the cervix), erosive lesions combined with inflammatory diseases (caused by staphylococcus, chlamydia, gonococcus, candidiasis, etc.), and cervical dysplasia.
In addition to eliminating cervical erosion, radio wave therapy is used in the treatment of polyposis, papillomas and condylomas in the genital area, cystic formations of the Bartholin glands, as well as for biopsy and coagulation of bleeding vessels.
Preparation for radio wave treatment of cervical erosion
When preparing for radio wave treatment of cervical erosion, the following rules must be observed:
- It is performed only if the diagnosis of cervical erosion is confirmed, in most cases after taking a biopsy;
- Before starting treatment, the vaginal environment should be normalized;
- it is necessary to be examined for the absence of pathologies that are sexually transmitted;
- if, before the start of therapy, venereal or infectious diseases in the acute stage were detected, the necessary therapy should be carried out in advance;
- In cases of immunodeficiency, complex treatment that stimulates the immune system should be undertaken.
The decision to conduct radio wave therapy should be made by a doctor, but only after the consent of the patient, who understands the need to use this particular method of therapy.
How is radio wave treatment of cervical erosion performed?
Radio wave treatment of cervical erosion is carried out in the first half of the monthly cycle (approximately from the fifth to the tenth day): during this period, the likelihood of bleeding is significantly reduced, and tissue recovery proceeds better and faster.
Radio wave therapy does not require hospitalization of the patient. The procedure usually lasts about 15 minutes. The woman is on the gynecological chair, the doctor disinfects and anesthetizes the cervix and begins the procedure.
The radio wave knife does not cut tissues like a scalpel and does not cauterize like a laser. Under the influence of special waves, without direct contact with the mucous membrane, the tissues are dissected in the required place, and the low-temperature steam that is formed during the evaporation of cells coagulates the underlying vessels, which helps prevent bleeding.
The tissues heal quite quickly: the tissue at the site of small erosions is restored by the next monthly cycle.
During the procedure, there may be a feeling of discomfort and slight pain in the lower abdomen, reminiscent of the onset of menstruation. If the woman is sensitive to pain, she may be offered local anesthesia.
After the procedure, you may be bothered by slight discharge from the genital tract: this is tissue healing and the removal of exfoliated tissue. Such discharge should disappear on its own within 10 days.
Radio wave therapy is usually limited to one session. For the next 3-4 weeks after the procedure, it is not recommended to have sex, walk or run quickly, visit public swimming pools and beaches, baths and saunas. You should only wash in the shower, and be sure to limit yourself from physical activity.
Contraindications to radio wave treatment of cervical erosion
Of course, like any therapeutic method, radio wave treatment of the cervix has a number of contraindications:
- menstrual period, as well as any bleeding of unknown origin;
- acute or exacerbated stage of the inflammatory process in the genital area (inflammation of the uterus, appendages, external and internal genital organs). The procedure can be performed outside the exacerbation stage;
- acute non-gynecological infection, resulting in decreased immunity (flu and other viral infections, sinusitis, inflammatory processes of the urinary tract), as well as fever;
- pregnancy regardless of the period;
- blood coagulation disorders;
- decompensated diabetes mellitus;
- mental disorders (seizures, schizophrenia);
- the patient has a pacemaker and an intrauterine device.
The following conditions are not included in the list of contraindications:
- condition after cesarean section;
- carriage of the papilloma virus;
- surgical treatment of the thyroid gland;
- lactation period.
Radio waves do not affect lactation, and breast milk does not change its quality characteristics, so it is not necessary to interrupt breastfeeding during therapy.
Complications of radio wave treatment of cervical erosion
Radio wave treatment of cervical erosion practically does not cause complications, especially if all the doctor's instructions and recommendations are strictly followed. After radio wave exposure, there are no consequences of tissue coagulation or burn surface on the affected area of tissue.
Many patients are concerned that most treatments for erosion can provoke cicatricial stenosis and deformation of the cervix. With radio wave therapy, scar formation does not occur because the tissue undergoes minimal damage, with no signs of necrosis or scab formation. This is what makes it possible to safely perform radio wave therapy on nulliparous women and patients who are planning to become pregnant in the future.
The only drawback of the radio wave method of treating cervical erosion is the relatively high cost of the procedure.
As a rule, after radio wave treatment, the risk of relapse is reduced to a minimum. The patient should undergo a preventive examination by a specialist in six months or a maximum of a year to confirm the absence of a relapse. The doctor often allows planning a pregnancy a month after the procedure.

Cost of radio wave treatment of cervical erosion
The cost of radio wave treatment of cervical erosion may depend on the characteristics of the clinic, the qualifications of the specialist who will perform the procedure, as well as the size and complexity of the erosive process. The price of therapy should be clarified with the clinic representatives or at the specialist's appointment.
We present to your attention the average prices in medical institutions in Kyiv:
- treatment of cervical erosion up to 4 cm² - $100-120
- treatment of cervical erosion up to 4 cm² by the leading specialist of the clinic – $150
- consultation with an obstetrician- gynecologist – about $15-20
- local anesthesia during the procedure - about $20
When choosing a clinic for radio wave treatment of cervical erosion, the following points should be taken into account:
- the therapy procedure requires the services of a highly qualified specialist;
- Not all medical institutions have the equipment to carry out treatment.
Reviews of radio wave treatment of cervical erosion
Patients who have undergone radio wave treatment for cervical erosion highlight a number of advantages of this method compared to other methods of therapy:
- this is the clarity of the impact (during the treatment there is no damage to healthy tissue);
- no bleeding;
- relatively rapid tissue regeneration;
- absence of cicatricial changes in tissues, which makes it possible to plan pregnancy after therapy;
- virtually zero risk of post-procedural complications;
- low degree of pain discomfort.
Some women tend to consider the presence of discharge for 1-2 weeks as a disadvantage, however, the same disadvantage is present in the method of cauterization of cervical erosion with nitrogen, and in many other methods.
By analyzing reviews, you can make sure that each specific case has its own individual characteristics, so you should not blindly follow the advice of users. The right decision would be to contact a qualified specialist who will explain the appropriateness and subtleties of therapy in your particular situation.
Radio wave therapy is most often performed using a specialized device called "Surgitron". This device has special electrodes that create the effect of radio waves using various exposure modes. The most suitable mode is determined by the doctor individually in each specific case.
At present, it can be confidently stated that radio wave treatment of cervical erosion is a technical and promising method that can help in eliminating gynecological pathology. And most importantly, it is a modern and safe way to get rid of the disease forever without disrupting the reproductive function of a woman.
