Symptomatic pubic symphysis (symphisis pubica) connects the symphysial surfaces of two pubic bones, between which is a fibrous-cartilaginous interoblock disc (discus interpubicus). In this disk there is a narrow, sagittally oriented slit-shaped cavity. The pubic symphysis is strengthened with ligaments. The upper pubic ligament (lig. Pubicum superius) runs transversely along the upper edge of the symphysis and connects both pubic bones. The arcuate ligament of the pubis (lig. Arcuatum pubis) is to the symphysis from below.

Pubic symphysis has distinct sexual characteristics. In women, this compound is less tall and thicker than that of men. In women during labor in the pubic symphysis, small movements are possible.
