Causes and pathogenesis of Verruciform Epidermodysplasia of Lewandowski-Lutz. In the emergence of the disease an important role is assigned to the 3rd and 5th types of human papillomavirus (HPV-3 and HPV-5). It is possible to transform verandiiform epidermodysplasia of Lewandowski-Lutz into squamous cell carcinoma or Bowen's disease. There is information about the important role of hereditary factors.
Symptoms. There are simple and dysplastic variants of the disease. With a dysplastic type of disease caused by HPV-5, clinical manifestations begin early. Skin manifestations are from birth or manifest in early childhood. Rashes are often located on open areas of the body and resemble flat warts. On the back surface of the hands they are similar to ordinary warts. With malignant transformation, there is an increase in the growth of warty elements and their fusion. Possible ulceration, exophytic growth.
Histopathology. The changes are similar to those observed with flat warts.
Differential diagnosis. Diseases must be distinguished from flat warts on the basis of the results of histological examination.
Treatment. Assign retinoids, vitamin A, immunomodulators, antiviral drugs externally - keratolytic ointments, local retinoids.
