Sea salt is obtained from seawater by natural evaporation from the sun or by evaporation. Its ionic composition consists of chlorides, sodium, sulfates, magnesium, calcium, hydrocarbonates, bromine, etc. Inhalation with sea salt achieves a local therapeutic effect and accelerates recovery from inflammation of the mucous membranes of the upper and lower respiratory tract. Proximity to the sea makes it possible to use sea water for this, geographical remoteness - crystal solutions. [1], [2]
Indications for the procedure
What symptoms and diseases can you do inhalation with sea salt? Its unique components heal mucosal damage, accelerate metabolic processes, which leads to rapid tissue repair, have an antiseptic effect, and reduce edema. Such properties have a beneficial effect on diseases:
- bronchitis - there is an expansion of the bronchi, blood circulation in them becomes more intense, more mucus is produced, sputum becomes less viscous, expectoration intensifies;
- adenoids - with this pathology, the nasopharyngeal tonsil increases, which causes shortness of breath and discomfort. Its growth is facilitated by a humid environment, therefore, the purpose of inhalation is drying, leading to a decrease in the adenoids;
- asthma is an incurable disease resulting from a prolonged inflammatory process in the bronchi. Therapy is aimed at relieving seizures, preventing the progression of the disease. Good treatment results are obtained from staying in salt mines, and inhalation of sea salt works according to the same principle. They make it possible to relieve an attack at the very beginning, to saturate the respiratory mucosa with useful minerals;
- nasal congestion - this condition is caused by a narrowing of the lumen of the nasal passages due to swelling of the mucous membrane. For a person, this is fraught with discomfort, itching in the nasal cavity, frequent sneezing, lacrimation, headache, and can result in sleep disturbances, increased fatigue, and decreased concentration. Vasoconstrictor drugs help get rid of this, and sea salt can replace them;
- runny nose in children is a constant companion of the growth of babies. During it, not only does the nose not breathe, but also unpleasant discharge from the nose. Sometimes the instillation procedure causes considerable difficulties, although there should be measures to alleviate the condition. Inhalation can help, because it will expand the channels, disinfect them, stop inflammation;
- ARVI is a viral disease that affects the trachea and bronchi. It is characterized by sore throat, runny nose, headaches, fever. Useful microelements of sea salt will help get rid of painful manifestations: sodium, potassium and magnesium will reduce swelling, calcium, sulfur will increase immunity, zinc will heal mucosal damage. Preparation
There are several ways to carry out inhalations, on which preparation for them depends. An indispensable attribute of the process is the purchase of the salt itself and, if we are not talking about a steam procedure, then also a special device - a nebulizer. In the first case, you need a container for the solution and a towel. On a full stomach, it is not done, but only an hour after eating.
Technique of the inhalations with sea salt
First, a solution for inhalation with sea salt is prepared: a spoonful of the mineral is needed for a glass of water. It is heated in an enamel container until steam is formed, the head is tilted over it and, for greater effect, covered with a towel. Diseases of the larynx, bronchi require deep inhalation through the mouth and exhalation through the nose, with a runny nose, tonsillitis - on the contrary. The procedure takes 5-7 minutes. The technique for carrying out inhalation at home for a child is somewhat different. A funnel is rolled up from thick paper and inserted into the spout of the teapot, through which it breathes. For young children, this method is unacceptable, therefore it is better to use a nebulizer - the safest form of delivery of a therapeutic agent in the form of an aerosol to the respiratory organs. You cannot cook sea salt for him yourself. In pharmacies, a ready-made product is sold, which is diluted with saline in a ratio of 1: 2, and then poured into the device. The procedure is carried out both in a sitting and lying position, which is convenient when treating children or bedridden patients. During the day, it can be done up to 4 times, it is completely safe.
Contraindications to the procedure
Inhalation with sea salt is not recommended at a body temperature above 37.5 ° C, nosebleeds, the presence of blood fragments in sputum clots during expectoration, neoplasms. Steam is categorically contraindicated in the case of adenoids, because increase the humidity of the environment and lead to overgrowth, as well as small children.
