Intertrigo under the mammary gland occurs quite often in those who neglect personal hygiene (especially in hot weather), in overweight women, and also due to the activity of fungi or bacteria.
Intertrigo often appears in places where skin touches (folds), it leads to severe redness of the skin, inflammation. Without treatment, cracks, ulcers, and festering wounds appear on the skin over time.
Causes chafing under the breast
Diaper rash under the mammary gland can be caused by yeast fungi, infections (especially if there is damage to the skin under the breast) against the background of certain diseases, reduced immunity, and prolonged treatment with antibiotics.
Diaper rash can also be caused by:
- increased sweating
- overweight
- large breast size (sometimes diaper rash develops due to individual characteristics of the mammary glands)
- allergies
- poor hygiene
- infectious skin diseases
- diabetes mellitus
- tight, uncomfortable underwear that rubs the skin under the breasts

Treatment chafing under the breast
Intertrigo under the mammary gland responds well to treatment in the early stages of development.
Treatment begins with eliminating the cause that provoked the inflammation - moisture and friction. To do this, the skin under the breast must be thoroughly washed with soap, rinsed with antiseptics, and dried well with a soft dry towel.
If the inflammation is severe and touching becomes painful, you can dry the skin with a hair dryer set to cool.
After this, you should reduce skin friction as much as possible; for this purpose, you can place a soft napkin between the folds or sprinkle with talc.
At the initial stage, with redness and slight pain, drying ointments with zinc (Linin, Teimurov ointment, etc.), baby cream (Desitin), sea buckthorn oil (promotes skin restoration) are prescribed.
In advanced stages, solutions with a drying effect are prescribed (resorcinol solution, zinc sulfate, etc.).
To treat wounds and ulcers, use an ointment with an anti-inflammatory or antifungal effect - Clotrimazole, Lorinden, etc.
In very severe cases, the doctor may prescribe bed rest and maximum restriction of mobility.
It is also recommended to take air baths as often as possible during treatment.
Traditional medicine recommends using oak bark to treat and prevent diaper rash. A decoction of the bark can be added to the bath or used to wipe the damaged areas. You can also make a powder - for this, you need to grind the dried oak bark well.
Prevention
To prevent diaper rash of the mammary gland, it is recommended to wear breathable comfortable underwear (it is necessary to choose your size and buy underwear made of natural fabrics). In case of excessive sweating, you can sprinkle the folds under the breast with talc or baby powder, carry out regular hygiene procedures. You can also use folk remedies, for example, a decoction of oak bark for taking a bath, which will help normalize the work of the sebaceous glands.
Forecast
Intertrigo under the mammary gland responds well to treatment in the initial stages. If the cause of the intertrigo is eliminated in a timely manner, for example, a tight bra, then the intertrigo quickly goes away and the woman returns to a normal lifestyle.
If the cause of diaper rash is excess weight, diabetes, infectious or fungal diseases, then treatment in this case will be a little more complicated, but if all the specialist's recommendations are followed, the diaper rash will completely disappear.
Intertrigo under the mammary gland often appears in women suffering from obesity, in hot seasons, with active work of sebaceous glands, the skin under the breast becomes moist, constant friction leads to microdamage to the skin, in addition, such an environment is favorable for the development of bacteria. All this provokes intertrigo under the breast.
