There are many cases when a woman, planning a pregnancy, encounters such a disease as a bend in the cervix. After this diagnosis, the question arises about the possibility of conceiving, carrying and giving birth to a healthy child. Will this disease become an insurmountable wall on the way to a woman's dream? Let's try to understand this issue in more detail in this article.
ICD-10 code
In world medicine, there is a so-called registry of diseases - "International Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision" (ICD code 10). In it, the changes in the physiology of the uterus that interest us have their own coding and can be designated by an individual code - N88, which is called - other non-inflammatory diseases of the cervix.
Causes of cervical inversion
To effectively combat the problem, it is necessary to thoroughly understand the mechanism of obtaining this pathology and the reasons for the bending of the cervix. The catalysts of the problem discussed in this article can be different. Let us recall the most common of them.
- Congenital anatomical pathology. And such women, as statistics show, are in a fairly high percentage. In most cases, this anomaly is not a pathology that can block the reproductive functions of the expectant mother.
- Hormonal imbalance in women.
- The reason for the bending of the cervix may be an inflammatory process affecting the female genitals. This may be inflammation of the appendages, endometriosis, adnexitis and a number of other diseases.
- Frequent and multiple pregnancies.
- Low tone of the ligaments and muscle tissues of the pelvic organs and joints.
- A neoplasm (both malignant and benign) affecting the area of interest to us in the human body.
- Pathological diseases occurring in the intestines. For example, chronic constipation.
- Increased physical activity, lifting weights.
- A difficult obstetric procedure involving serious ruptures and trauma to the genitals.
- The formation of an adhesive process that occurs as a result of surgical intervention, infectious and bacteriological damage to the tissues of the area of interest to us.
- Diets: rapid weight loss or gain.
- Individual characteristics of a woman, received at birth, passed down from mother to daughter.
- Infantilism of the uterus.
- Exhaustion of the female body: poor nutrition,
- Organ injury.
- Trauma sustained during childbirth.
- Abortions.
- Post-cesarean section.
- A woman's wrong way of life: casual relationships, multiple partners, role-playing games with elements of violence, and so on.
- Problems with the bladder.
- Disorder of the nervous system.
- Biological age of a woman.
- Ovarian failure.
- There is an opinion that a long period of breastfeeding can also lead to this problem.
- Intensive sports training that took place during menstruation.
It is worth noting that often the above-mentioned causes of cervical inclination are presented in a complex manner or follow from one another.
Some "knowledgeable people" are absolutely sure that this disease can be contracted by a girl who was taught to sit too early. Doctors warn that such statements are absurd and groundless.

Pathogenesis
Whatever the cause of the pathology in question, the pathogenesis of the problem comes down to the weakening of the supporting function of the organ (whether it is a disease, physical or other impact). Relaxation of muscle tissue leads to displacement of the uterus, and with it its cervix.
A similar clinical picture can be observed in the case of decreased tone of the fascia and muscle fibers of the pelvic floor, as well as defects in the anatomical components of the pelvic organs.
Symptoms of Cervical Inversion
When a woman has this diagnosis in her medical history, the symptoms of cervical inversion are felt and observed similar to many pathologies affecting the female reproductive system.
- Severe pain during menstruation.
- Large amounts of blood loss during menstruation.
- Discomfort and pain during coitus.
- Discharge of blood clots from the vagina.
- Frequent urge to urinate is possible.
- In case of pregnancy, this is the probability of miscarriage.
- Problems with conception.
- The menstrual cycle may become longer in duration.
- The leucorrhoea secreted from the vagina has an unpleasant odor.
- The shade of such discharge can be different: milky, transparent or, conversely, greenish-yellow.
- Frequent constipation is possible.
First signs
When health problems arise, a woman should analyze the first signs of pathological changes. These are:
- Painful intercourse.
- Irregularity of the menstrual cycle, its duration and abundance of discharge.
- The appearance of frequent urges to go to the toilet to pee.

How to get pregnant with a tilted cervix?
Depending on which direction the bending occurred, the result of conception largely depends. In this situation, the abnormal structure of the female body can become an obstacle in the process of fertilization of the egg, because the sperm is not able to penetrate the ovulating cell.
So, what to do and how to get pregnant with a bent cervix? Getting a fertilized egg is difficult, but possible. To achieve the desired result, it is worth following a number of recommendations given by doctors studying human reproductive abilities.
- It is necessary to abstain from coitus on the eve of ovulation. This will increase the concentration of spermatozoa and their activity in the male genital organ.
- It is necessary to choose the most successful position for sexual intercourse. In this matter, you should not hesitate to consult a doctor - a gynecologist or a sexologist. For example, with a backward bend of the cervix, the most suitable position for coitus is the woman on her back, the man on top. The woman's hips are slightly raised.
- If the organ is slanted forward, it is better for a woman to take the position of lying on her stomach, slightly raising her pelvis.
- It is also necessary to follow a number of other rules: immediately after the semen is released, the partner must withdraw his penis from the vagina. This will allow the semen not to leak out, but to rush to the eggs.
- After coitus is over, the woman is advised to lie down for another 30 minutes without changing position. This will give the sperm more time to penetrate the uterine cavity.
- It is necessary to add one tablespoon of baking soda to 500 ml of slightly warmed water. Before sexual intercourse, douche with this composition. This will neutralize the acidic environment of the vagina to protect sperm and give them more time for fertilization.
Experts also recommend that women who have encountered such a problem introduce yoga or special gymnastic exercises into their lives. They will help strengthen the muscles and ligamentous tissues of the pelvis, gradually leveling the situation, returning the cervix to its natural position. This method works if there are no adhesions or adhesion processes in this area.
But it is worth warning right away that the selected set of physical exercises should not be heavy, associated with lifting heavy weights, as well as jumping.
If an obstetrician-gynecologist identifies a cervical inversion as the reason why a woman cannot have children, it is necessary to undergo a comprehensive examination to determine the initial source of the pathology.
Perhaps a woman will not have to do all these acrobatic exercises, but will only need to undergo a course of medication or surgical treatment.
Cervical inversion during pregnancy
Quite a few women learn about their problem after conception has already occurred. In most cases, during the period of bearing a child, the cervix begins to straighten out, returning to its normal position. In such a situation, it can be said that it was pregnancy that became the treatment course that restored the anatomical characteristics of the organ in question.
But if it was found out that the bending of the cervix during pregnancy was caused by the presence of adhesions in the pelvic area, a consequence of inflammation or infection, then one should not expect the defect to be corrected. In such a situation, the bearing of the fetus itself will be at risk.
It is necessary to offer future mothers a number of exercises that will allow them to improve the situation. It is only worth noting that they should be performed only with the permission of their doctor - the gynecologist who is monitoring the pregnancy.
- Fix your hands at waist level. Cross your legs and walk in this position with a mincing step for five minutes.
- Place your feet shoulder-width apart. Spread your arms out to the side. Bend over and try to reach your nearest toes with one hand. Do the same with the other hand.
- Take the cat pose, kneeling and resting your hands on the floor. First straighten one leg. Return it to the starting position. And so ten times. Do the same movements with the other leg.
In some cases, when a bend in the cervix is detected during pregnancy, doctors resort to installing a device called a pessary. This is a special ring that is fixed on the cervix, which prevents its early opening. This device is removed by the doctor after 37-38 weeks, when the fetus has already formed and labor can proceed normally, with the birth of a healthy baby.
Cervical inversion and childbirth
If conception has occurred and gestation is proceeding normally, and the uterus is not fixed by adhesions, then there is a high probability that during the development and growth of the fetus, the cervix will begin to straighten out and over time will take its natural position.
If the uterus and its cervix are held by adhesions, the bending process can only get worse. For example, if the female organ is attached by an adhesion to the rectum or bladder, then during the period of fetal growth, these organs also shift, leading to problems with defecation, gas emission, and problems with urine output. Such symptoms are called uterine infringement by doctors. This clinical picture is a real threat of spontaneous termination of pregnancy.
Bending of the cervix and childbirth - their relatively normal existence depends on many factors, including the direction in which the bend occurred. If the cervix is beveled back, and the pregnant woman has an adhesion process in the pelvic area, then medical straightening of the cervix is necessary.
The uterine incarceration is performed against the background of an empty bladder and under general anesthesia. It is also possible to use laparotomy: an incision in the peritoneum and straightening of the organ is performed through the wound. In most cases, with such a pathology, the obstetrician-gynecologist will not allow such a patient to give birth on her own, prescribing a cesarean section for her.
If the fixation of the female organ occurs only from the back, then such a picture does not require any intervention. But complications are possible from the side of violation of the terms of opening of the cervix. If such a problem arises, it is possible to prescribe the same cesarean section.

Cervical inversion after childbirth
Any obstetric care, even absolutely non-traumatic, leaves its mark on the body of the woman in labor. At the same time, it is statistically confirmed that the more a woman gives birth, the more problems with the health of her reproductive area arise. And many of them require mandatory medical treatment. One of such complications is a bend in the cervix after childbirth, which is diagnosed quite often.
This fact is mainly related to the change in the size parameters of a woman during pregnancy and after delivery. That is, first she gains weight, the uterus stretches, and after delivery it strives to reach its natural size. It is this regression that can provoke an abnormal formation of the cervix.
In such a situation, it is advisable to undergo a full examination and ask a specialist for advice on whether any medical assistance is needed in her particular case. Or whether no adjustment is required in her case.
Consequences
As medical practice shows, congenital pathology is extremely rarely expressed by significant deformations of the female reproductive system; much more often it is asymptomatic and does not have any significant pathological impact on the life of a woman, as well as on the performance of her function - conception, bearing and birth of a child.
In most cases, the consequences in the form of a bend in the cervix cause problems and bother a woman with secondary changes. The consequences of this pathology can be:
- The woman feels unwell.
- Discomfort symptoms in the female genital area.
- Problems in performing sexual intercourse.
Complications
If appropriate medical measures are not taken, complications of this physiological abnormality can ultimately lead to female infertility.
Diagnosis of cervical flexion
When planning a pregnancy, especially if the woman is over 25 years old, it would be a good idea to undergo a full medical examination of the body. This will help avoid negative health surprises later. Diagnosis of cervical flexion is carried out in several stages:
- Initial examination by an obstetrician-gynecologist on the chair.
- Standard laboratory tests.
- Such as clinical and biochemical blood tests.
- Clinical and biochemical analysis of urine.
- Vaginal smear analysis.
- Use of modern medical equipment for diagnostic purposes.
- Differential diagnostics.
- Tests
The first thing that is prescribed to any patient who comes with one problem or another is the following laboratory tests:
- Clinical and biochemical blood tests.
- Clinical and biochemical analysis of urine.
- Determination of blood type and Rh factor.
Additional studies may also be required:
- Bacterioscopic and bacteriological examination of vaginal discharge, which provides an answer to the question of the presence of infection.
- Analysis of the level of hormones of the pituitary-gonadotropic system.
- PAP test (Papanicolaou smear) is a cytological examination of a vaginal smear. This analysis is performed using a microscope in laboratory conditions. If atypical cells are detected, the patient is sent for a number of additional examinations.
- A test for the human papillomavirus (HPV), a smear test is performed using polymerase chain reaction (PCR). If this virus is detected, its type is determined.
- Bimanual examination.

Instrumental diagnostics
It is quite difficult to imagine modern medicine without various types of diagnostic and treatment equipment. Instrumental diagnostics is also developing, offering new and more advanced methods of examination.
The main methods for recognizing this disease are:
- Biopsy is a medical examination method. It involves the removal of cellular material or tissue (biopsy). After this, the necessary studies are carried out using special instruments.
- Colposcopy is an examination of the cervix using a special optical device called a colposcope.
- Ultrasound diagnostics.
Differential diagnostics
After the specialist has performed a visual examination of the woman on the chair, and also when he has all the results of the comprehensive examination in hand, he conducts differential diagnostics - an analysis of the results of the studies. It involves determining the full clinical picture of the patient's health condition with subsequent differentiation of a specific disease. Based on this knowledge, diseases that are similar in symptoms, but not confirmed by research, are eliminated.
Who to contact?
Abortion when the cervix is bent
If you “walk” around the forums that are marked by interest in this problem, you can understand that the question of whether it is possible to have an abortion with a bent cervix is of interest to many respondents.
The answer from specialists is always the same - each situation must be considered individually. For example, in the case of a backward bend of the cervix, it is entirely possible to perform an abortion without risk to the woman's health.
Treatment of cervical inversion
After a thorough examination and diagnosis, if necessary to intervene, treatment of cervical bending can use several methods:
- An obstetrician-gynecologist relieves a woman of a cervical bend by means of a simple surgical intervention, which is mainly performed on an outpatient basis and does not require hospitalization. Usually, during the operation, the specialist sets the cervix in the correct position and fixes it with a pessary (a special gynecological ring), which will not allow the organ to move, getting used to the normal position. The woman will have to wear this item for some time, after which it will be removed.
- The patient's diet is being reviewed.
- Vitamin therapy is prescribed.
- Hormonal therapy.
- Antibacterial therapy.
- Taking medications that promote the resorption of adhesions.
- A special set of exercises is required.
- Application of physiotherapeutic correction methods:
- Special mud therapy in the perineal area.
- Combined gynecological and hydromassage.
- Such patients should avoid heavy lifting.
If this pathology is congenital, does not cause discomfort to the woman, is not an obstacle to conception, bearing a fetus and childbirth, then there is no need for any treatment. But you should still undergo an examination and confirmation by doctors for your own peace of mind.
Often women learn about their problem when they register with a women's consultation center for pregnancy. And if the uterus and its cervix are not fixed by adhesions, then it is the growth of the fetus that can straighten the position of the uterus, relieving the expectant mother of the problem. Very often women thus get rid of their pathology without even knowing about it.
It is precisely depending on the type of deformation and the overall clinical picture that the doctor will decide on the treatment method.
If an infectious or inflammatory process is detected during a bend in the cervix, then the doctors' efforts are primarily directed at eliminating this pathology. In this situation, doctors use medications to stop the source of the problem, as well as the consequences of the disease.
During treatment, a woman is not prohibited from having sex, but she should use contraception, as there is a high risk of an ectopic pregnancy.

Medicines
Depending on the cause established, the woman may be prescribed anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral drugs in the treatment protocol. And as a supportive therapy - vitamin therapy. Antibiotics may also be prescribed.
The following drugs may be prescribed as anti-inflammatory drugs: Advil, Ncrofen, Ketonal, Arcxian, Kntorol, Brustan, Oruvel, Melox, Dexalgin, Menindol, Rapten Rapid, Naproxen, Dolac and many others.
In our situation, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs are more acceptable.
The drug Melox is prescribed for oral administration during the period of food introduction in a daily dosage of 7.5 to 15 mg.
It should be remembered that if the patient has kidney problems, the administered dose should be minimal.
Contraindications to the administration of Melox include increased individual intolerance to one or more components of the drug, as well as a history of bronchial asthma, ulcerative exacerbation of the stomach and duodenum, internal intestinal bleeding, severe liver dysfunction, hyperkalemia, as well as the period of bearing a child and breastfeeding.
Antibacterial drugs include: benzylpenicillin, imipenem, ampicillin, metronidazole, amoxicillin, rifampicin, nafcillin, loracarbef, cephalosporins, ticarcillin, meropenem, piperacillin and others.
The dosage of the drug metronidazole is determined only by the attending physician depending on the pathogenic flora present. It can be 0.5 g, administered very slowly by drip. The maximum permissible daily dosage is no more than 4 g of the drug.
Contraindications to the drug in question include a tendency to epileptic seizures and other disorders of the central nervous system, the first trimester of pregnancy, liver failure, the period of breastfeeding a newborn, and increased individual intolerance to one or more components of the drug.
Antiviral drugs may be prescribed: herpesin, retrovir, arviron, zerit, ribaleg, videx, liracept, tamiflu, provirsan, viracept, cyclovir and others.
It is advisable to take Tamiflu with food. In this case, the tolerability of the drug will be high.
The starting dose is 75 mg taken twice a day. The duration of the course of treatment is five days. The maximum daily dose should not exceed 150 mg. It does not increase the effectiveness of therapy.
Contraindications to the administration of Tamiflu include increased individual intolerance to one or more components of the drug, including high sensitivity to oseltamivir phosphate, as well as a history of chronic renal dysfunction in the woman.
It is worth remembering that medications should be prescribed only by the attending physician, in accordance with the specific clinical picture.
Folk remedies
In many ways, the approach of non-traditional methods is in tune with the methods of classical medicine. Therefore, it can be said unequivocally that folk treatment, in the pathology under consideration, can be used only with the permission of doctors and only if the cause of the bending of the cervix is a virus, pathogenic flora or an inflammatory process. It is in this case that it is possible, without harm, to obtain the necessary improvement in the patient's condition.
To eliminate the inflammatory process, douching with herbal infusions or decoctions of single herbs is suitable.
Douching with the following composition is also suitable: dissolve five grams of rock oil in half a liter of warm water. Douche with this solution before going to bed. One procedure will require 100 ml of solution. Duration of treatment is 15 days.
Herbal treatment
As noted above, herbal treatment can only be used with the permission of the attending physician and only in the case of bacterial, infectious or inflammatory lesions of the pelvic organs. In this article, we are ready to offer a number of such recipes:
- Dilute one teaspoon of calendula flowers with a quarter cup of boiled water. Keep in a water bath for 15 minutes. Leave to infuse for about 40 minutes and douche while warm. This procedure must be done daily for three to five days.
- No less effective are calendula decoctions taken orally (inside). The brewing procedure is similar to the previous point, and the ratio of the plant product to water changes and is two tablespoons to two glasses. Schedule of administration: half a glass three to four times a day before meals.
- A decoction of bergenia has also shown good results. Grind two tablespoons of the plant's rhizome and brew for half an hour in a glass of boiling water, using a water bath. Then cool until warm and use before bed as a syringe.
- Another medicinal plant that can be mentioned is sea buckthorn. In this case, sea buckthorn oil is used. In this case, tamponade is performed. A tourniquet is made from cotton or gauze material. It is soaked in sea buckthorn oil and inserted into the vagina. It should be inside for at least three hours. The duration of such daily procedures is 12-15 days. It is worth remembering that the tampon should not be inserted at night, as sea buckthorn can cause a slight deterioration in the condition.
- Another folk recipe for douching is viburnum branches, which can be found in almost any garden plot today. To prepare the medicine, you will need 600 g of buttermilk and about 100 g of fresh plant branches. This composition is placed in a container and placed on a small fire for about ten minutes. After that, it is put off the stove overnight to infuse. After waking up, strain and douche with the medicinal liquid. The solution used should be warm.
Homeopathy
Today, homeopathy is gaining more and more popularity among people who are committed to treating various diseases using alternative medicine methods.
In relation to the treatment of the disease discussed in this article, homeopathic doctors are ready to offer several medications that, if they do not completely solve the problem, will relieve the pathological symptoms, improving the patient's condition.
Such homeopathic remedies include:
- Sepia. It is mainly used in medium and high diluted doses. Rubbing is possible, but the method and dosage of administration should be prescribed only by a homeopathic doctor with the consent of an obstetrician-gynecologist.
- Calcarea phosphorica. It is used in any dilution dose, but mainly in ternary, sexagenary and duodecimal dilutions.
Various dilutions of the homeopathic remedy are used, but the most common are the third, sixth and twelfth. The specific dose is prescribed by the attending physician. The method and dosage of administration should be prescribed only by a homeopathic physician with the consent of the obstetrician-gynecologist.
Surgical treatment
Modern classical medicine is equipped with a number of techniques that allow for surgical treatment of cervical inversion.
If the cause of the bend is an adhesive process, then the adhesions are removed only by surgical intervention. In most cases, the doctor chooses laparoscopy. In this case, the incision of the skin and subcutaneous layers of the abdominal wall is minimal. Then, using special medical equipment inserted into the puncture, under the control of computer equipment, the surgeon crosses the adhesions, bringing the cervix to a normal position. Fixes the cervix in a natural position with a pessary (a special gynecological ring), which will not allow the organ to move, getting used to a normal position. The woman will have to wear this item for some time, after which it will be removed.
Another method of stopping the problem is straightening the bend directly manually. Before the operation, the patient must empty the bladder and rectum. The entire procedure is carried out on a gynecological chair under general anesthesia.
Prevention
In addition to the above-mentioned methods for relieving the problem, specialists give a number of other treatment recommendations that can also be used as a preventative measure for the disease in question:
- A woman should not lift or carry heavy objects.
- She needs to sleep on her stomach.
- At the first urge, empty the bladder and rectum, preventing overflow and stagnation of urine and feces in them.
- Avoid standing for long periods of time.
- It is necessary to promptly contact a specialist with a suspicion of any infectious lesion and treat it until complete recovery.
- Eliminate strength sports from your life, especially those workouts that put excessive strain on the pelvic floor muscles.
- The diet of any woman, and especially with a history of cervical inversion, should be healthy and balanced.
- It is necessary to very carefully adhere to personal hygiene, and especially intimate hygiene.
- During the rest process, a woman should have time to fully restore lost strength.
- It is advisable to regularly do gymnastics for the muscles of the intimate areas.
- Regularly, at least once a year, undergo a preventive gynecological examination.
- Early postpartum rehabilitation of the muscular tissues of the perineum and vagina.
All these tips are also suitable for teenage girls to prevent the development of the pathology in question.
Forecast
Having heard and read enough horror stories about the bending of the cervix and the consequences that this disease brings, many women begin to panic, asking a vital question for them, is it possible to get pregnant and give birth to a healthy baby with this pathology. But, summing up the article I read, the prognosis for this disease is very favorable, for this you only need to undergo a full examination. And, if necessary, take the treatment and recommendations prescribed by a qualified specialist.
Indeed, in a number of cases, a woman with such a diagnosis should not do anything at all with her pathology, and it will not affect the quality of life and reproductive abilities of the fairer sex.
The anatomical parameters, localization of the uterus and its cervix are not accidentally laid down by nature. This is how this reproductive organ is able to provide the sperm with maximum comfort to reach the egg and fertilize it. Therefore, the diagnosis of cervical bending for women who are not knowledgeable in this matter seems to be the collapse of all their hopes for motherhood. But, after reading this article, we hope that such respondents will make the right conclusion and seek advice from a doctor - a gynecologist. Having conducted a full examination, we are sure that he will find a way out of this situation. And having carried out, if necessary, effective treatment, he will help the patient's family feel the joy of motherhood. And we wish you never give up and achieve what nature itself has given us.
