The concentration of apo-A 1 increases with familial hyper-lipoproteinemia, pregnancy, estrogen treatment, alcohol abuse, physical activity.
The determination of only apo-A 1 gives little information for assessing the impairment of lipoprotein metabolism, so it is advisable to simultaneously determine the apo-B1 concentration and calculate the apo-B1 / apo-A 1 ratio . In norm it is less than 1.
Low values of serum apoA 1 concentration can be detected with Tangier's disease, familial hypo-a-lipoproteinemia, type I and V type I, type 1 diabetes mellitus, cholestasis, hemodialysis, infectious diseases, and a number of medications (diuretics, beta-adrenoblockers, androgens, glucocorticosteroids, cyclosporine).
