Reference values (norm) of the content of apo-A 1 in serum: men - 81-169 mg / dL (0.81-1.69 g / l); women - 80-214 mg / dl (0.80-2.14 g / l).

Each primary lipoprotein is characterized by the presence in its composition of an individual, only inherent protein (apolipoprotein). Apolipoproteins are denoted in Latin letters, some of which are a family of proteins and are also indicated by numbers (for example, apo-A 1, apo-A 2, etc.). Apo-A 1 is called an "active alternative". He participates in the transport of triglycerides and cholesterol, activates lecithin-cholesterol-acetyltransferase, facilitating the reverse transport of cholesterol from the periphery (including the walls of blood vessels) to the liver. Apo-A 1 is called an "alternative" because after it enters the circulation in the chylomicron composition, it quickly enters the HDL and is integrated into these particles. In case of disruption of apo-A 1 detachment from chylomicrons, the content of HDL is reduced and the level of TG increases, which promotes the development of atherosclerosis and IHD. Due to the fact that apo-A 1 is the main apolipoprotein of a-LP, the determination of its concentration specifies the degree of risk of development of IHD in the patient. A-LP contribute to the removal of cholesterol from the vascular wall, thereby inhibiting the development of atherosclerosis.
