Today, sunburn after a solarium is a fairly common problem. This is explained by the fact that ultraviolet radiation in a solarium is much more intense, so the skin can burn almost instantly. Therapy for such a burn is based on reducing pain, as well as inflammation, which can cause infections.

Causes sunburn

One of the main reasons for sunburn after a solarium is photosensitization, that is, increased sensitivity of the skin to ultraviolet rays. It is also interesting that photosensitization is often caused by taking certain medications (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, antibiotics, neuroleptics, diuretics, antifungal agents, female hormonal drugs). Photosensitizers are found in food products (citrus fruits, figs, chicken eggs, parsnips, carrots, dill, parsley, agave, green garlic, St. John's wort, wheat, clover), as well as in products used in cosmetology (acne medications, some shaving products, decorative cosmetics, soap).

Risk factors

If you have fair skin, you will be much more likely to get a sunburn in a solarium. This is explained by the production of less melanin, a substance that protects the skin from sunlight. In addition, if you have acne, infectious diseases or viral diseases on your skin, it is best to postpone a visit to a solarium for a while.

Symptoms sunburn

The main symptoms of sunburn are:

  1. Redness of the skin.
  2. Severe burning and itching.
  3. Peeling skin.
  4. Increased body temperature.
  5. Headaches.

Facial burn after solarium

A facial burn after a solarium most often manifests itself as reddening of the skin. But reddening does not always appear precisely from prolonged exposure to ultraviolet light. There are three main reasons for the appearance of such a symptom:

  1. The most common is still considered to be a burn of the upper layer of the skin. In this case, you will feel itching, burning and an increase in temperature at the site of the burn. If the effect of ultraviolet light was too strong, then blisters may appear on the skin, from which ichor will flow. Over time, they will begin to open and peel.
  2. Redness may be caused by an allergic reaction to ultraviolet rays. Its signs are similar to a burn, but the main symptoms do not go away for a long time.
  3. An allergic reaction to the products or their components that were used in the solarium.

To avoid getting burns on your face after tanning in a solarium, you need to follow some important rules. Firstly, the first few times the procedure should be kept to a minimum. This way, your skin will get used to ultraviolet light. Secondly, use special products that protect the skin from negative effects. Thirdly, do not forget to cover your face with a cotton cloth during the session.

Stages

The stages of burns that can be obtained in a solarium can be divided into:

  1. The first stage – the burn appears only in the upper layer of the epidermis. The skin recovers quite quickly: within 3-5 days.
  2. The second stage – the damage reaches deeper layers of the epidermis. Blisters with ichor may appear on the skin. Full recovery is possible only after 8-12 days.

In a solarium, you can only get one type of burn - thermal. Exactly the same burn can appear after a long stay under the sun's rays.

Complications and consequences

Solarium is dangerous for those people who have a large number of birthmarks on their body, especially if the latter are large (more than 15 cm). Before the procedure, you must visit a dermatologist who will tell you how long you can be exposed to ultraviolet radiation, and whether you can use a solarium at all. If you really need to get an even tan (for example, before a wedding), all birthmarks must be covered with a plaster before the session. Also, do not forget about various sunscreens.

The thing is that in this case there is a fairly high risk that moles will begin to degenerate into malignant skin tumors. It is not advisable to sunbathe in a solarium for people who have very light skin and freckles. It is easier for you to get a burn.

Often after a tanning bed, chloasma appears on the skin - dark spots that spoil the appearance quite a lot. Most often, such spots appear on the skin of the face. They are associated with hormonal imbalances in the woman's body. The appearance of chloasma can be provoked even by applying perfume before the session.

An organism that is too weakened may also react inadequately to ultraviolet radiation. In such a case, an allergy or photodermatitis may appear.

It is worth understanding that a sunburn from a solarium can lead not only to the appearance of scars on the skin, but also to more serious consequences - skin diseases.

Treatment sunburn

If after visiting a solarium you find burns on your body, treatment should begin with first aid for your skin:

  1. As with sunburn, first of all, the skin needs to be cooled. Various lotions and compresses using ordinary cold clean water will cope with this perfectly. To improve the result, you can use aloe juice, black tea with ice, tomato juice or cucumber juice. You can use antiseptic drugs (chlorhexidine, furacilin).
  2. After cooling, the skin needs to be moisturized. Otherwise, your skin may become very dry and inflamed. For this, you can use "Panthenol" in the form of a spray.

Treatment of sunburn after solarium

You can get rid of a sunburn after a solarium in a couple of days, but to do this you need to know how to properly get rid of such a problem:

  1. Since even a minor burn can cause dehydration, it is important to drink plenty of fluids.
  2. To get rid of the pain, you can take any painkiller.
  3. Homemade masks made from kefir or sour cream are excellent for relieving discomfort.
  4. To moisturize and soothe the skin, use a mask made from grated cucumber.
  5. A cool shower with low pressure will help cool the skin.
  6. If a shower doesn't help, you can try filling a bathtub with cool water and adding chamomile tea to it.

Drug treatment

Solcoseryl. A medicine based on the active component of deproteinized dialysate from blood taken from healthy calves. The drug helps to activate metabolism and improve tissue trophism. Due to this, the regeneration process is accelerated. Available in the form of an ointment and solution.

Apply a sufficient amount of ointment to the affected areas of the skin 2-3 times a day. Therapy continues until the unpleasant symptoms disappear.

Patients who have been diagnosed with intolerance to the drug component, hyperkalemia, anuria, oliguria, are prohibited from using Solcoseryl. This drug is also contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

The use of Solcoseryl can cause allergic reactions, urticaria, hyperemia.

Actovegin. A medicine based on the active component of deproteinized hemoderivative, which is obtained from the blood of young healthy calves. To treat sunburn, 5% Actovegin cream is usually used. Due to its composition, the product helps activate the metabolism of oxygen and glucose.

To obtain an effective result, it is recommended to apply Actovegin cream at least 2 times a day for 12 days. Do not use if the patient has been diagnosed with intolerance to the components of the drug.

The use of Actovegin may cause allergies, including urticaria.

Panthenol. A medicine based on the active component dexpanthenol. The product helps improve tissue trophism and regeneration.

It is recommended to apply the cream (ointment) in small quantities 2-4 times a day. After application, rub into the skin with massage movements. It is not recommended to use the drug to treat patients who have been diagnosed with intolerance to Panthenol components.

The use of this drug may cause allergic reactions, but very rarely.

Amprovizol. A medicine based on the active component menthol, anesthesin, ergocalciferol solution. The drug is used to relieve pain. It is also known for its cooling and moisturizing properties. It is available as an aerosol.

Direct the stream of medicine to the affected areas of the skin for 1-5 seconds. The distance from the skin to the canister should be at least 20 cm. It can be treated several times a day, depending on the patient's condition.

It is not recommended to use Amprovisol if you have a second-degree burn on your skin, or if you have wounds or abrasions.

Herbal treatment

  1. Aloe juice is often used to treat sunburn. To do this, squeeze a small amount of juice onto the affected areas of the skin. Grind the second aloe leaf to a paste and apply to the skin. Bandage.
  2. Take a few burdock leaves, grind them into a paste and apply to the burns. Bandage.
  3. Grind fresh plantain leaves to obtain a homogeneous mass. Apply to the skin that has received burns.
  4. Prepare a decoction from oak bark. It can be used for compresses when you get a facial burn in a solarium.

Prevention

In order to avoid getting burned in a solarium, you need to adopt some rules of conduct in it:

  1. Even if you really need to become a "chocolate bar" in one go, do not try to do this. First, the skin needs to get used to the ultraviolet rays. The average session at first should not exceed 3-5 minutes. To get the exact time, you need to consult with the solarium staff.
  2. Always use various means of protection. And those that can be applied on the beach will not suit you.
  3. Use special glasses during the session to protect your eyes and the skin around them. Cover particularly sensitive parts of the body (nipples, breasts, moles).
  4. Do not use perfumes or cosmetics before the session.
