The brain sarcoma or intracerebral malignancy appears from the connective tissue of the brain and its membranes. The disease is very rare. The tumor begins to develop as a node that is localized in the skull.

Distinctive signs of brain sarcoma are sprouting into surrounding tissues, metastasis and frequent relapses. Reliable causes of this disease are unknown. Sarcomas of the brain can be both intracerebral and intracerebral. Differs tumors and by consistence - dense, decaying, loose.

  • Extra-cerebral tumors have outlined nodes, gray-red or yellow. The tumor provokes the appearance of cysts, foci of necrosis and contributes to frequent hemorrhages. The growth of the tumor is infiltrative.
  • Intracerebral tumors are distinguished by their malignancy, blurred edges, invasive rapid growth and the ability to metastasize to healthy tissues.

Causes of brain sarcoma

Oncologists identify a number of risk factors that can cause sarcomas of the brain. Neoplasms in the brain are most often found in elderly patients, but some types of sarcoma can also occur in children. Working with chemicals (chloride, dioxin) is another factor in the development of the tumor. Do not forget about radiation and radiation, which increase the risk of oncological diseases.

Symptoms of brain sarcoma

The symptomatology of brain sarcoma is manifested in the steady growth of neurological symptoms. The main symptom is frequent headaches. Also, patients can complain of dizziness, epilepsy, frequent vomiting, visual and mental disorders.

Diagnosis of brain sarcoma

Diagnosis of the disease can be both non-invasive and invasive methods. To non-invasive include: computer tomography, ultrasound examination, a neurologic examination, electroencephalography and others. Treatment of brain sarcoma

Treatment of brain sarcoma is different, it all depends on the stage of the disease, the age of the patient, the presence of metastases, the size of the tumor and the overall health of the patient.

  1. Surgical treatment - this method is considered radical, but it helps to prevent relapse of the disease. Treatment consists in trepanation of the skull to gain access to the tumor and its excision. Surgical treatment is complemented by radiation therapy and chemotherapy, for the complete destruction of cancer cells.
  2. Radiation therapy is a method of treating brain sarcoma, which is used when surgical treatment is impossible. Radiation therapy is combined with chemotherapy. Irradiation consists of several sessions, the therapy acts not only on the tumor, but also on adjacent tissues, preventing relapses and metastasis. But this method of treatment causes secondary symptoms (vomiting, fatigue, nausea, vomiting).
  3. Chemotherapy - treatment with the use of cytostatic drugs that affect tumor cells. Chemotherapy is a systemic treatment that affects the functioning of the entire body. Because of this, the patient has a number of terrible side effects.
  4. Cyber Knife is a modern method of treating brain sarcoma and other tumor lesions. Cyberknife is an innovative technology that treats tumors without invasive interference. Such treatment refers to the methods of radiosurgery and helps prevent metastases and relapses of the disease.
