Post-thrombophlebitic syndrome is a serious disease that cannot be cured even with effective medications prescribed by doctors in this case. It is not surprising that folk treatment of this pathology has not gained much popularity and is little covered in the literature.

However, if you look into it, it becomes clear that this syndrome includes symptoms of venous insufficiency, varicose veins of the lower extremities and trophic ulcers, the treatment of which is actively practiced by the people as an important addition to the main treatment. It turns out that such recipes for the treatment of the above pathologies will also be useful for patients with PTFS. Let's consider what methods of combating post-thrombophlebitic syndrome traditional medicine offers us.

Treatment of varicose veins with unripe tomatoes. When spider veins appear on the legs, which are a sign of both primary and secondary varicose veins, compresses of green tomatoes will be useful. Unripe tomatoes contain the antioxidant lycopene, which improves the condition of blood vessels, increases their elasticity and prevents atherosclerotic changes. Thanks to it, the walls of the vessels become stronger and more elastic, resistant to stress. In addition, such treatment is a preventive measure against thrombosis.

The treatment consists of applying thin slices of tomatoes to the sore, swollen veins overnight. They should be bandaged to the leg and left until the morning. Over time, the varicose cones will shrink and disappear.

Juice therapy. Vitamins C, P, B6, E, microelements and many other valuable substances that are beneficial for the health of blood vessels and skin are contained in many vegetables and fruits. It is not for nothing that such products are recommended to be actively included in the diet of patients with PTFS. When processing vegetables, the bulk of the nutrients passes into juice, so juices are considered the most useful for patients, especially since they are absorbed much easier.

Patients with varicose veins are recommended to drink both juices of individual vegetables and mixtures of juices that complement each other's healing properties. For example:

  • A mixture of carrot juice (100 g) and spinach (60 g). Bioflavonoids in carrot juice (including rutin, the properties of which we have already mentioned) strengthen blood vessels, increase their tone and elasticity, and spinach helps cleanse blood vessels and improves their contractile function.
  • In the previous recipe, half of the spinach juice can be replaced with beetroot juice. This composition will replenish vitamins and microelements, improve blood composition, relieve swelling and stabilize blood pressure.
  • A mixture of spinach juice (40 g), turnip (you can use the root, tops and leaves) and watercress (20 g each) will help stabilize the water-electrolyte balance, improve metabolism in the body's tissues, thin the blood, prevent platelet aggregation and blood clots, and dissolve blood clots that have already formed.

Juices should be drunk in a dosage of at least 500 g per day. In this case, we are talking about freshly squeezed juices, since after about half an hour the amount of vitamins in them decreases sharply.

For venous insufficiency, cucumber juice is also considered useful; it is recommended to take ¼ glass 2-3 times a day.

Sea salt for leg swelling. Traditional medicine recommends making salt compresses to reduce pain and swelling of soft tissues. A tablespoon of sea salt is diluted in 1 liter of water, a soft cloth is soaked in the mixture and the sore leg is wrapped in it. The procedure is carried out 3-4 times a day as the material dries.

Fruits and berries against blood clots. Eating foods high in vitamin C has a positive effect on the condition of blood vessels and reduces blood clotting, which prevents blood clots. The most valuable products in this regard are raspberries, currants, rose hips, lemon, and apples. Among vegetables, the leaders are sweet peppers and parsley. These tasty and healthy gifts of nature for varicose veins and PTFS also turn out to be effective medicines.

Fruits and vegetables rich in ascorbic acid should be eaten fresh, because heat destroys the vitamin. You can also lubricate your feet with a slice of lemon as a local treatment.

Alum and soda for varicose veins and trophic ulcers. Baths with 200 g of soda and 70 g of burnt alum added will be useful for these pathologies. The water should be slightly warm (no more than 38 degrees).

You can also make foot baths based on soda, which relieve heaviness and pain in the legs. In this case, take 6 tablespoons of soda per 5 liters of water, the temperature of which is no more than 40 degrees. The procedure is carried out for an hour.

Treatment of trophic ulcers. Such difficult-to-heal wounds on the legs of patients with PTFS can be treated:

  • using compresses from cabbage leaves with sea buckthorn oil spread on them,
  • a mixture of equal parts honey and fresh chicken protein (apply to the wound, cover with burdock or cabbage leaves, wrap in film and bandage overnight, a course of about 7-8 procedures is required),
  • yolk ointment, which is prepared from equal parts of fresh chicken yolk and 5% iodine solution (the product can only be applied to the wound, changing the dressing daily until the wound heals),
  • baths (for half an hour, lower the leg into a light pink solution of potassium permanganate, and then for another half hour keep the sore limb in a solution prepared from 1 liter of water and 100 ml of calendula tincture (finally, you can also make a bath with eucalyptus tincture, after which the wound is bandaged)).

To improve venous outflow, patients are advised to do a simple exercise at home: rise on your toes so that the distance from your heel to the floor is about 1 cm, and land back down sharply. Such heel strikes on the ground stimulate the movement of blood up the veins. The exercises should be performed daily from 3 to 5 times a day in a set of 30-40 repetitions, consisting of rising on your toes and landing.

The well-known exercise "Birch" also helps the blood flow from the feet to the heart. You need to lie on your back, then lift your legs and torso up, leaning on your shoulder blades and stay in this position for several minutes.

As a preventive measure for the formation of blood clots in the treatment of PTFS, varicose veins, thrombophlebitis, such a branch of alternative medicine as hirudotherapy has also gained popularity. Treatment with leeches helps cleanse and thin the blood, and it is not for nothing that the hirudin secreted by these unusual worms has become actively used for the manufacture of medicinal products.

Herbal treatment

Herbal treatment has become even more popular in the treatment of venous diseases, the symptoms of which are also characteristic of post-thrombophlebitic syndrome. We have already mentioned the herbal preparation "Venoton", which contains several medicinal herbs that help strengthen blood vessels. Of particular note is such a plant as horse chestnut, the flowers and seeds of which are used to prepare tinctures that are effective for varicose veins and venous insufficiency.

To prepare the tincture, take 500 g of alcohol and 50 g of flowers or 100 g of crushed fruits of the plant. Infuse the composition in a cool place, shaking it periodically, then filter and take 2 teaspoons orally 3 times a day. This should be done before meals for a week, after which a two-week break and repeat the course are recommended. The same tincture is successfully used as an external remedy for rubbing.

The same principle is used to prepare an alcohol tincture of sweet clover. It should be taken 50 ml at a time, diluted in half a glass of cool water.

Hazelnut or filbert is used for PTFS in the form of an infusion, for the preparation of which one can use the leaves and bark of the plant. 2 tbsp. of pre-crushed raw materials are poured with a glass of boiling water and kept warm for 3 hours. The medicine is taken after meals 3-4 times a day, 50 ml.

To cleanse the vessels, you can prepare a medicine based on another component of the drug "Venoton" - Japanese pagoda tree. Based on its flowers or fruits, prepare an alcohol tincture (50 g of crushed plant material per 50 ml of high-quality alcohol), which is infused for a month. The strained composition is taken daily, 1 teaspoon for a month. Then take a break for 7 days and repeat the course.

To rub sore legs with swollen vessels, you can prepare an alcohol tincture of Kalanchoe leaves. Fresh leaves in the amount of 50 g are washed, crushed and filled with alcohol. After 10 days, the tincture can be used as directed.

Treatment of venous insufficiency against the background of post-thrombophlebitic syndrome can also be carried out with herbal infusions. One of such effective infusions is a mixture of yarrow and lemon balm, buckthorn bark and blackthorn flowers. For a glass of boiling water, take 60 g of the herbal mixture (all plants must be mixed in equal proportions), leave for an hour and take 2 times a day for ½ glass.

Herbal treatment is a way to combat illness given to us by nature. But it is important to remember that many plants are strong allergens, so if you experience itching, redness, and rashes on your body, you should stop using this treatment or use other plants that do not cause side effects.

Tinctures of herbs on alcohol are not intended for the treatment of children and adolescents, as well as people with ulcerative and inflammatory diseases of the stomach, liver and kidney diseases. When using any folk recipes, it is worthwhile to consult a doctor first, because they may also have contraindications associated with concomitant diseases or hereditary disorders in the body.

Homeopathy

Caution should also be exercised by those who seek help from homeopathic remedies. These are not quite ordinary drugs. And although they are considered safer for the body than most drugs of classical medicine, when prescribing them, homeopathic doctors take into account many factors and the characteristics of the patient's body, so there are no standard recipes and treatment regimens here. It is due to this that homeopathic treatment gives more lasting results, helping to fight not only the symptoms, but also the cause of the disease. However, the treatment will only be effective if the drugs are prescribed professionally.

Post-thrombophlebitic syndrome is considered a disease that cannot be completely cured. But homeopathy does not cure the disease in the full sense of the word. Its goal is to activate the healing powers of the patient's body, resulting in self-healing. At the same time, the results of such treatment, if the patient believes in his recovery, sometimes surprise even experienced doctors.

What medications can help achieve good results with PTFS, which is characterized by symptoms of varicose veins and venous insufficiency:

Pulsatilla. This homeopathic remedy is the drug of choice for venous pathologies. It helps to combat the symptoms of secondary varicose veins: the appearance of a vascular network, swelling of large veins, pain and tingling in the legs, the appearance of a bluish tint of the affected limb. This drug is more suitable for tearful people with an unstable mood, who complain of a worsening condition in stuffiness.

Hamamelis. A drug prescribed in the same cases as the previous one, if the constitutional and psychological features of the patient are not characteristic of Pulsatilla. The main symptom when prescribing the drug is a nagging pain, characteristic of venous congestion.

Carbo vegetabilis. A homeopathic medicine that is prescribed when Pulsatilla and Hamamelis are ineffective. It is characterized by the appearance of large bluish or purple seals (nodes) on the veins, reddening of the skin of the legs.

Calcarea fluorica. A remedy effective in varicose veins, when the patient feels relief only at rest and is aggravated by heat. It is especially useful for those with weakened venous valves.

Arnica: This remedy can be prescribed to patients with reddened, hot lower extremities that experience pain when palpating the affected areas.

Graphites. This drug is prescribed to those who suffer from severe swelling of the legs due to lymphovenous insufficiency and are prone to developing erysipelas. The drug also helps patients with lymphedema, which increases the size of the leg several times.

Cadmium sulphuricum. Quite a toxic drug, which along with mercury and zinc preparations can be prescribed to patients with trophic ulcers. The drug Cardusmarianus fights these same problems.

Vipera. A homeopathic remedy that helps with a feeling of fullness in the legs that only goes away when the limb is raised.

In case of varicose veins and PTFS, the preparations of the German homeopathic company Heel may also be useful: Aesculus-Heel, Hamamelis-Gommakord, Hamamelis-Sable-Heel. All these medicines are indicated for venous congestion, varicose veins and inflammation of the veins, thrombosis, the appearance of inflammation on the skin, eczema and ulcers caused by trophic disorders.

In pharmacies, you can also find a complex preparation from the Ukrainian manufacturer "Veno-gran", the name of which speaks of its specialization. The instructions say that this homeopathic remedy is prescribed for varicose veins and post-thrombophlebitic syndrome, as well as complications caused by these diseases. Homeopaths actively prescribe it to women whose disease was provoked by pregnancy or childbirth.

It is believed that the preparation, which includes Hamamelis, Aesculus, Pulsatilla and Acidum fluoricum, increases the elasticity and tone of venous and lymphatic vessels, normalizes blood and lymph flow, stimulates metabolism in tissues and prevents trophic disorders. Thanks to its use, the rheological properties of blood are improved (coagulability is reduced and fluidity is increased, which is the prevention of blood clots).

The drug has a positive effect on the functioning of the endocrine glands, helps to normalize the hormonal balance, because failures of this nature are risk factors for the development of many pathologies, including venous ones.

Hamamelis in the preparation helps to relieve the unpleasant sensations of varicose veins: pain, burning, heaviness in the legs and a feeling of fullness of the veins. Pulsatilla fights pain and swelling, reduces the severity of trophic disorders, helps to heal trophic ulcers. To combat the consequences of tissue nutrition disorders and accelerate the healing of wounds and ulcers on the body, Acidum fluoricum is included in the composition of the preparation. And Aesculus helps to relieve swelling, restore sensitivity of the extremities, treat trophic ulcers, strengthen the walls of blood vessels.

According to the standard scheme of using the medicine, it should be taken from 3 to 6 times a day for 4-6 months with the possibility of repeating the course after a month. The drug is produced in the form of homeopathic granules, which are taken once a day a quarter of an hour before meals or an hour after them. The granules are kept under the tongue until dissolved or dissolved in water.

The dosage of the drug, as well as other above-described means, is individual, which once again speaks in favor of the need to seek advice and treatment from a qualified homeopath. And since we do not have many really good alternative medicine doctors yet, this issue must be approached very responsibly.

It is important to understand that homeopathic treatment does not provide immediate recovery, because the dosages of such drugs are very small, but in therapy based on the principle of "fight fire with fire" they cannot be exceeded. The result of traditional treatment of PTFS can be seen no earlier than after 2 months, when acute symptoms subside, and the courses of treatment will have to be repeated regularly. Treatment with homeopathy can last for six months to a year, but its effect lasts for a long time.
