Causes of the benign granuloma
Some scientists believe that benign granuloma is a peculiar form of pyoderma. Some dermatologists view it as a capillary hemangioma with a secondary granulomatous response. In recent years, it has been suggested that the disease is based on an angioblastoma, to which a bacterial infection joins.
Pathogenesis
In the pathogenesis of benign granuloma, trauma plays a large role - a cut, an injection, a burn, etc.
Histopathology. In the early stages of the disease in the epidermis, signs of inflammation are not noted, and in the later stages there are signs of destruction. In the dermis, a focus is observed from a large number of newly formed vessels with a swollen endothelium. The infiltrate consists of polymorphic leukocytes, plasma cells, lymphocytes, mast cells.
Symptoms of the benign granuloma
A few weeks later, a painless vascular tumor of the size of a pea or cherry appears on the site of the injury, often sitting on a narrow or wide leg surrounded by the "collar" of the peeled epidermis. A tumor of dark red color with a smooth or lobate surface has a densely-elastic consistency. In the future, the elements easily bleed, partially ulcerated and covered with blood-purulent discharge.
The tumor is most often located on the hands, feet, face, but can also be localized to other areas of the skin. Regional lymph nodes, as a rule, are not involved in the process, except in rare cases with secondary infection. Sometimes the tumor-like formation has a wide infiltrated base of round or oval shape. Seldom there are multiple benign granulomas.
