Middle gluteus muscle - m. Gluteus medius
It is the most powerful abductor of the hip. The front group of her beams rotates the thigh slightly inwards. Basically, the muscle is responsible for stabilizing the pelvis when carrying the weight of the body on one leg.
Start: external surface of the iliac wing between Linea glutea anterior, posterior and Labium externum Cristae iliacae
Attachment: Trochanter major.
Innervation: spinal nerves L5-S1 - sacral plexus - n.gluteus superior
Trigger zones are most often localized next to the iliac crest in the posterior fascicles of the muscle adjacent to the sacroiliac joint, under the ileal crest at the middle of it, under the crest of the ilium, but closer to the anterior ileum. All trigger zones are examined in the patient's position lying on a healthy side. Between the knees is put a pillow to prevent the stretching of the overly sensitive trigger zones in this muscle. The trigger zones located most posteriorly are examined by planar palpation. The researcher moves the tip of the finger perpendicular to the upper leading edge of the gluteus maximus. In the second and third cases, trigger zones are covered only with skin and subcutaneous tissue. To find them, the muscle fibers are rolled between the tip of the finger and the underlying bone. The finger moves across the muscle fibers. Local convulsive responses are difficult to see, but can be palpated.
Reflected pain. Trigger zones in the middle gluteus muscle are often an ignored source of back pain. The pain caused by trigger zones of the middle gluteus muscle is usually localized along the sediment with their location along the crest of the ilium; the reflected pain is localized more laterally and in the middle gluteal growth. It can also extend to the upper part of the hip from behind and laterally. Reflex pain along the crest of the ilium (bilateral in the lower lumbar region and above the sacrum).
