In the case of a wrong approach in foot hygiene, the nail plate often penetrates into the soft tissues of the toe or nail roller, which entails discomfort and painful sensations. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct compulsory treatment of ingrown nails.
Treatment of ingrown toenail
Medicine defines two main sources that can provoke this pathology: wearing narrow shoes and improper cutting of the nail plate.
During the period of ingrowning, the place of injury begins to bother, especially the pain increases when the shoe is worn on the foot and during walking. If the ingrown nail on the leg is not treated in time, infection of the wound can occur, which very quickly leads to purulent discharge. Subsequently, if you do not take measures, there is a proliferation of granulation neoplasms that have a shade of raw meat, for which the people call them "wild meat." With the advent of these growths, this pathology passes into a chronic category.
Methods of treatment of ingrown nail
Growth of the nail plate is a common pathology, which, with its primary frivolity, still needs to be treated. At the same time, there is a rather impressive list of treatment methods.
Surgeons highlight the following treatments for ingrown nails:
Conservative treatment:
- Technique of tape. The most aggressive method, using tape, is to remove the ingrown portion of the plate.
- Dental floss. In this case, according to the same technology, the angle of the plate is extracted, but the dental floss is used instead of the tape.
- Braces for nails, as well as similar adaptations. They help to correct the curvature of the nail plate.
- Antibiotics. They are used to stop the inflammatory process and prevent the penetration and development of infection.
- Hygiene. Conducting foot baths with subsequent hygienic treatment - these procedures are among the important factors of conservative treatment.
Surgery:
- Separation of the nail. This procedure is accompanied by rather unpleasant postoperative complications.
- Wedge-shaped excision. This is a more gentle method of resection, which preserves the shape of the nail.
- Reduction and removal of the lateral crease of the nails. During ingrowth, the lateral fold is irritated, forming a granulation tissue, which is excised.
- Removal of the nail bed (treatment according to Quinn). This too radical method (removes both the nail bed and the matrix) has not found a particular application and is rare.
- Amputation of the fingertip (treatment according to Saim). The process of resection includes not only amputation of the nail bed and matrix, but also a partial removal of the bone phalanx. The defect is closed by the dermal valve.
- Surgical excision of segmental matrix. This is a more gentle method of surgical intervention, more economically related to the etiopathogenesis of the pathological nail.
Conservative treatment of ingrown nail
Any pathology should be treated at an early stage of its development. This simple truth is also excellent for our case. It is much easier, less expensive to do the baths and compresses than to remove the part of the nail and phalanx.
If it so happened that the nail began to grow into the adjacent soft tissue and create discomfort, but the situation did not go too far, there is an opportunity to improve the situation by applying conservative treatment of ingrown nail.
To reduce the level of injury, it is necessary to do warm salty baths for the feet, and if it is necessary to remove the inflammatory process in this place it is necessary to use trays with baking soda or a little concentrated solution of potassium permanganate.
To protect the tissue from injury, use a tourniquet of gauze or bandage, moistened with 0.5% alcohol-water composition of chlorhexidine, which is gently inserted between the nail plate and the skin fold. Gauze protects the skin from trauma, and the drug contributes to the fastest healing of the wound. For the same purpose, instead of gauze, you can use a carefully cut piece of radiographic film. It, in addition to reducing the mechanical impact, also allows you to slightly change the bend of the nail, removing it from the area that is dangerous for the skin of the finger. Modern medicine suggests instead of the film to use specially designed devices that do not interfere even with wearing shoes. These are springs and staples, and plates. They slightly raise its edge, thereby reducing the load on the skin roller, which removes, in part or in full, the pain sensations, and also helps to adjust the shape of the nail.
If, however, a suppuration is observed in the pathology area, this indicates the neglect of the process. It is not necessary to hesitate, it is necessary to immediately seek help from a doctor.
Treatment of ingrown nail laser
Laser, in which area of modern life it just does not find its application. Actively use it in medicine. Treatment of an ingrown nail with a laser, most often occurs with the use of carbon dioxide (CO2). The laser treatment method has its advantages:
- markedly reduces pain symptoms,
- more quickly stops bleeding,
- shortens the time of "operation"
- reduces the percentage of subsequent disabilities.
Treatment of ingrown nail at home
The main advantage of treatment at home is that the risk of infection with various infections that can get through an open wound on the foot is significantly reduced. In this case, you need to remember one thing: treatment must begin immediately to identify a defect. This step will prevent further progression of the disease and its complications.
Treatment of ingrown nail at home is reduced to three main points:
- Kupirovanie inflammatory process.
- Resection of part of the nail.
- Change in the shape of the nail plate, which allows to prevent further relapses.
As already mentioned, in this case, baths with table salt are very effective (water temperature 45-50 ° C). And instead of potassium permanganate, for the removal of inflammation, you can use and infusions of herbs (St. John's wort, chamomile, sage, yarrow and others). It is necessary to prepare in advance a concentrated infusion (six or seven tablespoons of mono herb or mixture pour a liter of boiling water and insist for half an hour) before taking the foot baths into hot water.
Treatment of ingrown nails at home can be carried out with the help of ioductus, which includes iodine, which has a drying effect, and glycerin, which makes the skin softer. Apply the solution three to four times a day until the discomfort disappears. In this case, you need to wear comfortable (not narrow) shoes.
You can use a mixture of vinegar and glycerin. The mixture is prepared in a glass container by mixing in equal proportions of these two ingredients. Then, a dropper or a special medical stick is dripped into the wound. This procedure is carried out in the future for well-being.
In no case is it worthwhile at home to treat ingrown nails by removing soft tissues and the nail plate. The therapy is long and requires sufficient diligence.
Ointment for the treatment of ingrown nail
The nail grows into the skin of the finger and starts to bother, and if at that moment does not begin treatment, the process continues to progress, inflammation develops, abscesses appear.
If the disease is at the stage of inflammation, it will be sufficient to apply compresses with anti-inflammatory ointments (for example, nail art - a wonderful ointment for the treatment of ingrown nails) to the sore spot. This drug is applied to the pre-steamed nail and the surrounding skin tissues one to two times a day.
In the case when the wound begins to rot, Vishnevsky ointments and Ichthyol's ointments, which perfectly inhibit pathogenic microflora and draw out purulent masses, are thereby more effective, thereby purifying the wound.
Ointments should be applied to the affected area before going to bed, and in the morning it is worth trying to cut the embedded corner of the plate.
Also, the attending physician can prescribe an ointment for the treatment of ingrown nails of antibacterial action - for example, Levomekol.
All these ointments without a prescription can be safely purchased at any pharmacy.
Ointment Vishnevsky with ingrown nails
In many medical articles, the praises of Vishnevsky's ointment are sung and this is not groundless. Ointment, which was used by our grandmothers, remains relevant in our days. It perfectly "draws" purulent masses, promotes the speedy healing and disinfection of affected areas.
Compresses from Vishnevsky's ointment are made two to three times a day, applying a small layer. Over superimposed folded in 5 - 6 layers of gauze or bandage, a tampon fix. Before changing the next lotion, the angle of the nail plate is cut. Again, compress is applied.
With prolonged use of the drug, side effects can be irritation of the skin and an allergic reaction to its components. Contraindicated ointment Vishnevsky with ingrown nails only in case of individual intolerance to the components of the drug mixture.
Levomekol with ingrown nail
This drug is perfect for treating ingrown nails, as well as for preventive measures. In addition to antiseptic and antibacterial action, the cream also has cleansing, pus pulling abilities. Use levomecol with ingrown nails can be quite at home.
The drug must be applied to a sterile tissue and applied to the site of the lesion. The dressing should be changed daily, until the problem completely disappears. Allowed and the injection of a medicinal product heated to 36 ° C, using a syringe directly into the cavity of the abscess. However, do it yourself is not worth it, it is better to seek help from a doctor. The drug is perfectly tolerated. The only contraindication for pharmacists is the individual intolerance to the components of the medication.
Kapolin for ingrown nails
In order to alleviate the pain and accelerate the wound healing, it is necessary to try to raise the edge of the nail plate. To fix this position will help the capolin for ingrown nails. Capolin. So called in medicine a soft tissue special material (for example, Vlisstoff), which is used for tamponade of an ingrown nail plate.
In the process of treatment, the capolin must be inserted between the cutaneous roller and the nail. This procedure is rather painful, but necessary.
Before you start the capolin in the space between the plate and the skin, you need to soften the tissues, having done warm salt or herbal foot baths. After each such procedure it is necessary to try to push the tampon further in depth. Kapolin should be changed daily. After a certain time, it will be possible to cut off the disturbing angle of the nail. It is necessary to have patience, because such treatment is long enough.
Dimexide with ingrown nail
Dimexide with ingrown nails are used both in the role of compresses, and a solution for washing wounds. Applications with the drug are more effective at an early stage of progressive inflammation.
Dimexid in equal proportions diluted with water. With sensitive skin, the concentration of the drug can be somewhat reduced. The resultant solution is moistened with a gauze swab (a piece of gauze or bandage, folded into 5 - 6 layers). An antibiotic is applied to the affected area. The gauze swab is placed on top and fixed with an occlusive dressing (polyethylene film, and on top of the fabric gasket). Compress is left on the problem site for two hours.
Pharmacodynamics dimeksida with ingrown nails makes it possible to serve as an excellent conductor of antibacterial agents, allowing them to penetrate into the deep layers of organic tissues. The duration of the therapeutic course of compresses from ten days to two weeks.
To wash purulent and necrotic wounds, the concentration of the solution used is lower (from 10 to 30%). In the dominant majority of cases, dimexide is well tolerated, but occasionally there are such abnormalities as diarrhea, itchy skin, bronchospasm, insomnia, nausea and dizziness.

Ichthyolic ointment with ingrown nail
If the nail began to grow into the adjacent soft tissue and the developing inflammatory process is noticeable, then the ichthyol ointment with the ingrown toenail is simply indispensable. This drug is widely used as a pure medicine, and as a 10% glycerin application. For its preparation, homogenous mass in equal volume proportions of 20% is mixed with ichthyol ointment and glycerin.
An insignificant amount of ointment or mixed weight is applied to a folded several times gauze. Apply to a sore spot and wrap it on top with polyethylene or a food film and fix with a sock or a cloth bandage. The procedure is carried out at night, changing the compress every day for as long as a week, and on the morning of the eighth day a ugly piece of the nail plate is resected with a sterile instrument and ihtiol is again applied.
There are no significant contraindications Ichthyol ointment does not have, except for an allergic predisposition and individual hypersensitivity to the drug.
Alternative treatment for ingrown nail
If the process is not started, then it is likely that the inflammation will be healed, and with it pain, using an alternative treatment for an ingrown nail.
- Take a medical fingertip, put butter in it and dress before going to bed every day on the injured finger. The procedure is repeated two to three weeks. During the treatment, the nail plate will become softer and the pain will disappear.
- After the disappearance of pain, with the help of a sterile knife, it is necessary to carefully lift the angle of the nail and put a flagellum of gauze into this lumen. Finger again to sweat, leaving the tourniquet in place (gauze serves as a capolin).
- The enlarged area of the skin will "settle", the pain will subside, and the wound will gradually become protracted.
- To prevent the resumption of relapse, it is necessary to exclude narrow and stiff shoes from your wardrobe.
If the process is not started, then at the initial stage of the disease are quite effective foot baths using a steep tincture of chamomile pharmacy.
- Six tablespoons of herbs to fill in two liters of boiling water.
- The vessel is corked with infusion.
- To sustain about an hour.
- Remove the liquid from the strainer.
- Lightly heat up.
- Take the foot baths until the liquid cools.
- You can use and boiled for about ten minutes decoction.
- The duration of the procedure is up to 15 minutes.
In the old days, lamb fat was used to soften the nail plate. He was tied up for a few days to a sore spot.
- To soften the nail, use the gum of cypress. In case the shape of the plate could not be corrected and the wound does not heal well, it will be necessary to decide on its removal and consult a doctor.
Another recipe for alternative treatment of ingrown nails:
- Middle bulb clean and finely chop.
- Mix with one tablespoon of honey.
- Before going to bed, soak the feet in a soda solution to soften.
- After that, apply the honey onions to gauze and attach to the problem place.
- Cover with a film, and then fix it with a bandage.
- After a dream, try to get the problem corner out.
Treatment of ingrown nails with the help of aloe.
- Leaf the plants to peel and cut finely.
- With warm boiling water, dilute the resulting mass a little.
- Apply the composition on gauze and attach to an ingrown plate.
- Cover with tape and bandage.
- Procedure to do for the night.
- In the morning make an attempt to accurately bring out the angle of the nail plate.
Treatment of ingrown nails with plates
Modern medicine is ready to offer several innovative therapeutic techniques. One of them is the treatment of ingrown nails with plates. They were developed specifically for the procedure of correcting the shape of the deformed nail plate, as well as to simplify and speed up the process of stopping inflammation.
This product of pharmacology is made of a leaf spring. The material of the device is duraplastic with a coating of glass fibers. Such a plate is laid across the nail. Its property of springing allows you to raise the edges of the nail. This feature of medical plates leads to surprising results and makes it possible to take a worthy place among already existing techniques.
Benefits of treating ingrown nail plates:
- Installation takes a minimum time.
- Easy to clean.
- Polyallergenic material.
- Reliable fixation.
- Do not create discomfort when wearing shoes.
- Free access to the nail plate.
- There are no cosmetic defects.
- The flat form makes it possible to veil it with a pedicure with the application of lacquer.
- Suitable for any form of nail.
Treatment of ingrown nails with staples
Recently, treatment of ingrown nails with staples has been widely used.
They, like the plates, work to reduce pressure on the nail plate, and allow you to return it to the correct shape. Treatment of ingrown nail on this technology is carried out only at the initial stage of pathology, when there is no purulent infiltrate.
They are made of a thin wire, the thickness of which is only 0.4-0.7 mm. It is easily fixed on the surface, and fixed with a special gel in the center of the plate, the edges of the nail are hooked with the clamp.
The advantages of the method:
- The tension force is easily adjustable, but it is also not necessary to overtight, as the probability of nail failure is high. Therefore, it must be installed by an experienced specialist: either a doctor or a cosmetologist.
- The method is absolutely painless.
- Medical hypoallergenic alloy.
- Thanks to the stretching, the pressure of the nail on the skin roller decreases.
- The inflammatory process goes away more quickly.
- After a few days, you can safely remove the nail corner, which caused injury.
- Treatment of ingrown nails with staples makes it easy to correct the correct shape and growth of the nail plate.
- There is the possibility of a design approach to this device. In summer you can decorate the brace (for example, strassicles). The pedicure looks stylish and original.
- A wide size range allows you to choose a brace for any nail.
- The bracket is put once, just as necessary, its tension is adjusted.
- Once installed, you can safely practice in the gym or swimming pool.
But it is worthwhile to know that the staples and plates are not put, if the patient has fungal lesions on the nails, as well as to children under six years old.
Radio wave treatment of ingrown nail
Inflammatory, and, at times, the purulent process develops quite rapidly. And, if the time does not take action, doctors have to resort to more radical methods. Radio wave treatment of ingrown nails is a special case of surgical intervention. The operation is performed under local anesthesia (usually using lidocaine). The scalpel is partially cut from the side of the injured place. Then, using the special nozzles of the surgical device Surgitron ("Surgitron"), the nail plate growth zone is irradiated. It's enough six seconds to spend a full coagulation of fabrics, and as to cut off "wild meat". All this space can be processed by radio waves.
After the procedure, an antiseptic solution is applied to the affected area and fixed with a bandage. She does not touch her for four or six days. Only after this period the dressing is removed. Usually by the time the wound is almost completely tightened.
The effectiveness of radio wave treatment of ingrown nails is quite large. About 90% of the "operated" do not know what a relapse is. It does not limit the way of life of the patient. Immediately after it is carried out, it can move normally, it is only necessary to acquire comfortable and spacious footwear.
Surgical treatment of ingrown nail
In the event that neither conservative nor medical methods do not help, you need to seek help from a surgeon who will surgically treat an ingrown nail. The operation passes under the local anesthetic - 2% lidocaine solution, and if the patient has an allergic reaction to it (the test is mandatory, since anaphylactic shock is possible), then 0.5-1% solution of novocaine.
To date, several different methods of approach to surgical intervention. The simplest is the partial or complete removal of the plate. Will pass at least three months before the nail grows again, while unprotected tissue sends painful impulses to any physical contact with it. Especially severe are the first weeks after the operation.
The effectiveness of this method is not great, clinically confirmed a large percentage of re-ingrowth of the nail. The reason for this is the size of the okolonoglovevoy roller, which increased due to inflammation. Proceeding from this, in order to improve the quality of surgical intervention, in addition to removing the plate, resection of pathological granulations that developed during inflammation is carried out.
It happens like this: a rounded incision of the lateral area is made with a scalpel, while removing a part of the skin, the resulting edges are stitched together. Due to this, the perihotic fold tightens and aligns. This provides a guaranteed basis for persistent remission of pathology.
Treatment after removal of ingrown nail
Operation has passed, but it is not necessary to forget, as the postoperative period is important. After all, from the extent to which the doctor's recommendations are met scrupulously, the speed of wound healing depends, and the likelihood of developing an inflammatory and purulent process.
Treatment after removal of the ingrown nail is, first of all, careful treatment of the wound with antibacterial ointments (lamizil - cream, levomecol) and daily dressing. For the period when the patient experiences pain, the doctor ascribes analgesics (analgesics).
Analgin. The drug is injected into a vein or muscle, as well as taken internally in the form of tablets. Reception is conducted after a meal. Dosage of adults is 0.25 - 0.5 g two to three times a day, children - at a rate of 5 - 10 mg per kilogram of weight.
If the pain is very severe, injections are attributed: adults - 1 - 2 ml two - three injections a day, kids - 0.1 - 0.2 ml of solution per 10 kg of body weight.
To exclude irritation - not injected subcutaneously.
The drug is not assigned to patients with violations in the blood, in bronchospasm and individual intolerance of the components.
Paracetamol. The drug should be taken after meals with a lot of water in a single dose: for adults - 0.35 - 0.5 g three to four doses per day, but the daily amount should not exceed 3-4 g.
Children aged 9 - 12 years - daily dose of 2 g.
Babies from three to six - calculated as 60 mg per kilogram of the weight of the child, but not more than 1 - 2 g. Dosage is divided into three to four doses.
The drug is contraindicated for people with problems in the work of the kidneys and liver, as well as inflammatory processes that occur in the rectum.
For the wound healing period, especially in the first day after the operation, it is necessary to provide maximum comfort and rest to the injured leg. On the second day you can move, but strictly observe all the rules of hygiene (so as not to infect the site of operation through dirt and moisture). Typically, four to six weeks and the wound completely heals.
Treatment of ingrown nail in children
The skin of young children is tender enough and any wound is very painful. Therefore, when a child wears tight and uncomfortable shoes, begins to limp and complain about pain in the leg, it is worth taking a closer look. The cause of child complaints may be an ingrown nail. And if an infection gets into the injury site, then the purulent process begins: the skin becomes red and inflamed, a light impregnation filled with fluid appears, and the swelling grows.
Do not self-medicate, it is better to immediately seek advice from a pediatric surgeon. He will open an abscess and cleanse the wound, apply a bandage. If the pathology does not go so far, then you can hold the baby's leg in a warm (but by no means hot) soapy water. The procedure should be done two to three times a day for ten minutes. Knife get soaked with a towel and apply a cream with an antibiotic on the sore spot (it should be prescribed by a doctor). After that, try to gently cut off the problem corner.
If this does not work out yet, you should try to raise the angle of the plate and the envy under it with a sterile gauze or cotton tow. The amount of gauze should be small enough to raise the plate a little, changing and pushing it deeper several times a day. This procedure can be carried out when the baby sleeps, if he does not give it to do, when he is awake.
You can give a small dose of an anesthetic (for example, acetaminophen) in case the child is naughty because of the pain that pains him.
During this period, the baby is better to wear sandals or other more comfortable comfortable shoes.
Antibiotics for ingrown nails
If the case is started and the inflammatory process is already progressing, suppuration occurs, the antibiotic with the ingrown toenail comes to the fore in the treatment. In this case, both injections into the defect area and ointments with antibiotics are used (the tablets in this case will not help).
Gentamicin (antibiotic-aminoglycoside). The solution is administered intramuscularly in the calculation of 3 mg per kilogram of the patient's weight. If necessary, apply two to three times a day.
Later on they switch to the ointment form of gentamicin. After removing the necrosis and purulent masses, the ointment begins to take two to three times throughout the day, applying a thin film to the wound. If the affected area captures a significant part of the nail, the daily dosage should not be more than 200 g. The duration of the treatment course can be determined only by the doctor.
Levomekol (antibiotics - levomitsetiny). Ointment of the drug is used only externally. A small amount of the drug is applied to a sterile tissue and applied to the site of ingrowth of the nail. The napkin is changed daily until the affected area is completely cleared. The introduction of an antibiotic ointment with an ingrown nail is also possible with a syringe. Pre-ointment must be heated to a temperature of 36 ° C and a medical syringe to enter the abscess cavity.
Side effects and contraindications include only the allergic reaction and individual intolerance to the component components of the drug.
Than to smear ingrown fingernail?
Everyone from childhood should know the basic rules of nail care for hands and feet. Cut the nails right, without touching the corners of the nail plate. This, as it is not strange, can be called preventive measures to prevent ingrowth. Than to smear ingrown fingernail? This question arises immediately on the identification of this problem.
But apart from the ointments that the pharmaceutical market offers us, we can offer an effective remedy prepared by our own hands.
So, it is necessary:
- Mix in the same proportions (one tablespoon) finely chopped garlic, aloe leaves and onions, as well as butter.
- In the resulting mixture, enter one teaspoon of beeswax.
- Warm up, not bringing to a boil, for three minutes.
- To cool.
- Treatment of ingrown nails is reduced to applying the received mass to the wound.
- Top with ointment cover with fresh cabbage leaf (leaf can be slightly discouraged).
- Slightly wound with a bandage.
- Wrap and keep warm.
- The bandage should be changed periodically.
- The procedure should be performed until the angle of the nail is away from the dermal cushion.
An ingrown nail cream
Ointment or cream from an ingrown nail is a question of terminology. If the inflammatory process has already begun, antibiotics, anti-inflammatory and antifungal creams are mandatory. Antibiotics include the Levomekol cream described above. To antifungal drugs can be attributed cream lamizil (lamisil).
This cream is applied once or twice a day to the previously cleaned and dried surface of the skin in the area of pathology. In the normal course of treatment of ingrown nail, a positive effect is observed after three to five days, but the treatment course should be extended to one and a half to three months. The drug is highly tolerable, but still contraindicated for use by people suffering from individual hypersensitivity to terbinafine, and also should be used cautiously to treat children who have not turned 12 years old.
Nizoral - cream (antifungal drug). The drug, as well as the previous one, is applied a small layer to the place of ingrowth of the nail one to two times a day. The course of treatment is appointed by the attending physician.
Anti-inflammatory creams include orthophene (ortophenum).
The dosage of the drug is determined exclusively by the attending physician in the light of the observed clinical picture of the disease. The cream is applied in a dosage of two to four grams (depending on the area of the lesion) three to four times a day. In this case, it is desirable not to fix the occlusive dressing.
The price of ingrown nail treatment
In many respects, the price of treatment of ingrown nails will depend on the stage at which the pathology is located, as well as the chosen site and method of treatment. As an example, the price of resection of an ingrown nail laser method will cost about 1200 UAH. This includes: anesthetic, resection of pathological tissues, cleansing of the cavity.
So you want to look stylish and fashionable, but often model shoes (narrow sock, high heel) can later bring a lot of trouble. First of all, shoes should be in size and comfortable, and only then fashionable and stylish. But if pathology already exists, it is necessary to begin treatment of ingrown nail as soon as possible. This will not only allow us to quickly fix the problem, but also save energy and money. Pharmacology and medicine in this sense offers a fairly wide range of medications and methods of treatment.
