"I myself, shameful and corrupt,
With circles blue at the eyes,
I came to look at the profile of an important,
To the wax, open for show ..."
(Alexander Blok)
Blue circles in the eyes in A. Blok's poem "Cleopatra" - a specific image that conveys a sense of pain and excitement of the literary hero. In a less romantic sphere, in medicine, blue circles under the eyes are considered a unique signal of the body - a symptom that indicates an ailment.
Women, puzzled by this problem, resort to the means of aesthetic "disguise." Fortunately, there are more than enough: concealers and proof-readers are represented in the lines of almost all manufacturers of decorative cosmetics. If we talk about men, then those, and at all, rely on the eternal, inherent in our Eastern European mentality, "maybe, somehow it will cost". It is easy to guess that such negligence may sooner or later lead to an aggravation of the skin under the eyes.
Causes of blue circles under the eyes
Skin around the eyes is considered the most delicate and sensitive area of the face. It has a number of significant features:
- the thickness of the epidermis in this zone is only 0.05 mm (for comparison, the thickness of the skin of the cheeks is 0.08-0.3 mm);
- it contains a much smaller amount of collagen, and elastin - is absent;
- there are practically no sebaceous glands and subcutaneous fatty tissue;
- she has a pronounced mimic activity.
Another feature of the skin around the eyes, the most important in the context of this article, is that in it the capillary network is located very close to the surface. That is why any violation of the process of blood circulation in the body can cause a change in the skin tone. The bluish color is explained by the dark color of the capillary blood because of the increased content in the blood of the reduced, lost oxygen and connected with carbon dioxide, hemoglobin. As already mentioned, the skin around the eyes is very thin, and therefore in this area cyanosis is more noticeable.
Thus, the main cause of the appearance of blue circles under the eyes is a large amount of deoxygenated hemoglobin in small visible vessels of the skin.
Why do blue circles appear under the eyes?
Let us take a closer look at the possible factors that influence the appearance of blue circles under the eyes. They can be:
- Heredity, manifested in particular skin structure: proximity to the surface and the severity of the capillary network, anatomical structure of the skull with deep eye depressions.
- Availability of diseases:
- cardiovascular system, in which there is a "stagnation" of blood and insufficient enrichment with oxygen;
- bronchopulmonary diseases, in which there is a deficiency of oxygen in the blood because of insufficient intake of the latter into the lungs;
- disorders in the liver and kidneys;
- allergic reactions;
- acute rhinitis, inflammation of the paranasal sinuses, hypertrophy of lymphoid tissue, which are accompanied by local congestion of venous blood, an insufficient outflow from it due to edema of nearby tissues.
- Physical or mental overstrain and associated violations of blood circulation and gas exchange.
- Deficiency of vitamins C, K, A.
- Chronic intoxication of the body with nicotine and alcohol.
- Age changes in the appearance of the skin, associated with its thinning - the capillary grid becomes more noticeable.
Starting the fight against blue circles under the eyes, first of all you need to find the cause of the violation of blood circulation and try to eliminate it in the shortest possible time.
Blue-red circles under the eyes
As already mentioned, the cause of the appearance of blue circles under the eyes is often hidden in the presence of internal diseases (problems with the kidneys, heart) or is a symptom of allergy (for example, gluten). Thus the body signals a danger - be sure to show your doctor and take a survey.
Sedentary lifestyle, the regime of the day in the "home-work-home" scheme, lack of useful physical exertion and lack of fresh air - all this affects the person's well-being not in the best way. Externally, the loss of vitality very quickly reflected on the face: swelling, blue-red circles under the eyes - one of the first "bells" that it's time to change the regime of the day. Daily walks in the park, morning gymnastics in the fresh air and a healthy eight-hour sleep will restore a healthy appearance and improve well-being.
In addition, if the cause of the appearance of blue-red circles under the eyes is not in the disease of the kidneys, the heart and is not a symptom of allergy, they can be eliminated with the help of lotions from boiled potatoes, fresh cucumber or compresses of black tea.

How to remove blue circles under the eyes?
In order to mask the blue circles under the eyes, the concealer is ideal. It has a more dense texture than a foundation. Blue circles "overlap" the concealer orange. It is best applied not only to the area of dark circles, but also around the eyes, including the side surface of the nose (adjacent to the eye) and the upper eyelid. Use the brush: apply patches with patting movements, without smearing or rubbing it into the skin. After feathering the concealer, use a foundation to smooth out the complexion, then powder the skin. This will help temporarily hide unwanted blue.
To completely eliminate the blue circles under the eyes can only be a cause of their occurrence. If they are not related to the presence of chronic diseases, which were discussed above, but are only the result of banal chronic fatigue and lack of sleep, use the following tips:
- Restore the correct mode of the day. Recall that for an adult enough time to sleep and restore strength - 8 hours (for people suffering from hypotension takes more time - about 10 hours). Before going to bed, you need to ventilate the bedroom.
- Walk more often outdoors, in the green zone.
- Try to stay calm. Stresses that you are experiencing, contribute to thinning of the subcutaneous layer of fatty tissue, which makes the vessels and capillaries more visible. Try to learn to cope with everyday troubles. In this you can help the following books: "How to stop worrying and start living" by Dale Carnegie and "Paradox perfectionist" Tala Ben-Shahar.
- Everyone knows that nicotine narrows the blood vessels, often leaving a memorable trace on the face of the smoker in the form of dark circles under the eyes. Get rid of them you can abandon the bad habit, in this difficult matter, too, can come to the aid of the book. We recommend reading to all smokers the bestseller Allen Carr "Easy way to quit smoking".
- Do not forget every morning to do a light massage around the eyes - this helps improve blood circulation. Enough two or three minutes of light tapping with the pads of the fingers from the outer corner of the eye socket to the inner corner.
There are also many alternative recipes for removing blue circles under the eyes. Here are the most popular of them.
- Decoction of finely chopped parsley. In order that it would be necessary to cook it fresh green pour a glass of boiling water and put the broth for 15 minutes. With the help of cotton swabs, every evening make lotions on the area of the eyelids with warm decoction. Do not forget: after a gentle massage of the eyelids with ice, and the procedure can be alternated.
- Lotions of green tea. It is advisable to use tea not fresh, but already asleep (the one that was poured with boiling water several times already). These lotions are also better done before bedtime.
- Compress from cottage cheese: put 1.5 dessert spoons in gauze swabs, put the latter on your eyes, hold for 10 minutes.
- Potato mask. 2 tablespoons of grated potatoes mixed with 1 teaspoon of clay, apply on a gauze napkin, put it on your eyelids and hold for 10-15 minutes. After 10-15 minutes, remove the mask with cotton wool soaked in green tea.
For the author of this article, olive oil has become an effective tool in the fight against blue circles. The blueness of the blue under my eyes was chronic lack of sleep and daily hours of work at the monitor screen. After reading an enthusiastic tip about the oil in one of the forums devoted to the problem, I decided to use the advice. Bribed simplicity of manipulation: you just need to lubricate dry skin under the eyes with olive oil before going to bed. The result did not take long, so I recommend you try it too. After a few days, I noticed improvements, and after two weeks the blue circles under the eyes disappeared altogether.
