Almost every one of us came across at least once with the problem of the growth of a hard plaque on the tooth enamel. Some do not particularly worry about this, which is a completely wrong position. Dental stone can lead to negative and sometimes even horrific consequences. Of minor problems in the presence of tartar can be noted as an unaesthetic kind of teeth, and an unpleasant odor from the mouth. More serious consequences can be bleeding gums and shakiness of teeth. This is because the tartar displaces the gingival tissue, thereby exposing the root of the tooth. Well, the most sad result of prolonged presence of cured plaque can be loss of perfectly healthy teeth. And so you decided to go to a dentist for a consultation, and he suggested a chemical method for removing tartar. Should I agree? Is this method dangerous? Is it expensive? Now we will tell you in detail about this technique.
Indications for the use of the chemical method of removing tartar
The chemical method of removing tartar is not an independent procedure. Usually it is used in conjunction with other techniques, such as ultrasonic hard plaque removal and the Air Flow method. You will ask yourself the question: "If the chemical method alone can not cope with tooth cleaning, then why apply it?". With ultrasonic removal of a hard deposit, it is sometimes very difficult to break up thick areas of tartar, then chemicals are used to soften and thin it. There are still cases when it is impossible to use any other method of cleaning your teeth, except for the chemical. For example, this method is used with great shakiness of teeth, the presence of a large number of seals, crowns, implants and other problems. How does the procedure for the chemical method of removing tartar? For starters, the dentist examines the oral cavity for various problems (stomatitis, large carious cavities, chipped enamel). Then he speaks about the possibility of the procedure. If you get "good", then the doctor sets special protection on the lips and gums, so as not to injure them with chemicals. The actual chemical substance is then applied. To clean the teeth from hardened soft plaque apply solutions of alkalis and acids. The most common of these are Depuration Solution and Detartrol ultra. These chemicals contain concentrated hydrochloric acid, chloroform and iodine (for decontamination and tartar staining). There is also a special gel, softening tartar, based on a natural polysaccharide - Belagel-R. These agents are applied to the surface of a hard plaque for a short time from 30 to 60 seconds. After the time elapses, the solution is neutralized or washed with ordinary water, after which the teeth are cleaned by ultrasonic method, Air Flow method or special circular brushes (if other procedures can not be performed). After the end of the procedure, a special coating is applied to the teeth, which protects the teeth from the influence of aggressive substances and prevents unpleasant sensations of tooth sensitivity.
Advantages of using the chemical method of removing tartar
Advantages, when applying a chemical method for cleaning teeth in fact a lot. First, this procedure is completely painless. The process does not produce any frightening sounds, you do not feel any pressure on the gums, while the tartar softens and easily lags behind the tooth. Secondly, the procedure takes a minimum of time, which is why this option is suitable for people categorically not tolerating dental offices. Thirdly, acids affect the tooth enamel, bleaching it for 2-3 tones, and if you have a touch of a smoker or a coffeemaker, then the chemical method of removing tartar will perfectly relieve this trouble. Well, fourthly - this is a low cost of this method. It would seem, from the above, we can conclude that, probably the chemical method of cleaning teeth from hardened soft plaque - this is the ideal method. But in every barrel of honey, unfortunately, there is a fly in the ointment, which we will discuss below.

Disadvantages of the chemical method of removing tartar
The disadvantage of the chemical method of removing tartar is only one, but it is very significant. The fact is that acids react very aggressively to tooth enamel, washing out calcium and fluorine ions, thus completely destroying the protective layer of the tooth surface. Tooth enamel becomes sensitive and porous and any aggressive substances such as hot and cold water, sweet and salty foods can cause severe pain. Therefore, the application of chemicals requires great care and strict observance of the time of action. The chemical method of cleaning teeth can not be used to remove soft plaque in the interdental spaces, since it does not interfere with the effect of acids on the enamel.
Contraindications to the use of the chemical method of removing tartar
There are a number of contraindications for which the chemical method of removing tartar is undesirable, namely, with inflammatory processes on the gums, as well as children and persons under the age of 18 (because it is to this age that tooth enamel reaches its maximum thickness).
A complete contraindication to the chemical method of cleaning teeth from cured soft plaque can be attributed:
- an allergic reaction to one of the components of the substance to remove hardened plaque;
- pregnancy and lactation (drugs contain substances that can harm the health of the child);
- the presence of orthopedic structures and bracket systems (they can oxidize during the application of the drug);
- sensitive thin enamel of the teeth (application of chemicals can only exacerbate the situation);
- severe form of epilepsy or asthmatic attack;
- the presence of acute respiratory diseases;
- violation of breathing through the nose.
The cost of the procedure for the chemical removal of tartar
The removal of solid deposits by the chemical method is not used alone, so it is difficult to speak about the specific cost. Usually this procedure is combined with ultrasonic cleaning or removal of a hard plaque using the Air Flow method. The complex of such procedures in Kiev dental clinics can range from 500 UAH to 800 UAH. In the dental offices of other cities, this procedure "pulls" for less money, namely in 300-500 UAH.
Reviews about the chemical removal of tartar
First: after applying the chemical method of removing tartar it is worthwhile to refrain from a few days of food that can color the tooth enamel (beets, fruit juices, coffee, tea, etc.), as well as refuse to smoke. Secondly: after the procedure, it is recommended to apply a special protective fluorine-containing lacquer on the tooth surface, which will help to avoid further cracking of the enamel and saturate it with useful substances. Thirdly: this method is recommended to be used only in extreme cases, when other methods are unavailable or impossible for some reason.
Recently, dentists have begun to abandon the chemical method of removing hardened soft plaque, since the damage is disproportionately greater than the apparent usefulness of the procedure.
