Symptoms and types of glaucoma

Syphilitic interstitial keratitis and glaucoma

Syphilis of the eye can be a congenital or acquired sexually transmitted disease. In congenital syphilis, as a rule, the anterior segment of the eye is affected with the development of interstitial keratitis and anterior uveitis, and in acquired syphilis, both anterior and posterior uveitis develop.

Herpetic keratouveitis and glaucoma

Herpes simplex virus (HSV) ocular infection presents as recurrent unilateral blepharoconjunctivitis, epithelial and stromal keratitis, and uveitis.

Glaucomocyclitic crisis (Posner-Schlossman syndrome)

Glaucomatocyclitic crisis is a syndrome characterized by repeated episodes of mild idiopathic unilateral nongranulomatous anterior uveitis in combination with a marked increase in intraocular pressure.

Fuchs' heterochromic iridocyclitis: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Fuchs' heterochromic iridocyclitis is a unilateral chronic inactive nongranulomatous anterior uveitis associated with secondary posterior subcapsular cataract and glaucoma in 13-59% of cases.

Glaucoma associated with uveitis

Increased intraocular pressure and the development of glaucoma in patients with uveitis is a multifactorial process that can be considered as a complication of the intraocular inflammatory process.

Steroid-induced glaucoma: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Secondary open-angle glaucoma can develop with virtually any route of administration of glucocorticoid drugs. The increase in intraocular pressure can be pronounced and prolonged.

Exfoliative syndrome and glaucoma: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Exfoliation syndrome is a systemic disease that leads to the development of secondary open-angle glaucoma.

Pigment dispersion syndrome.

Pigment dispersion syndrome (PDS) is a condition in which pigment is washed out of the pigment epithelium of the posterior iris and deposited on various structures of the anterior segment of the eye. Obstruction and subsequent destruction of the trabecular meshwork can lead to increased intraocular pressure and the development of secondary open-angle glaucoma.

Glaucoma associated with congenital diseases

Aniridia is a bilateral congenital anomaly in which the iris is significantly underdeveloped, but a rudimentary iris rudiment is visible during gonioscopy. In 2/3 of cases, a dominant type of inheritance with high penetrance is observed.

Primary congenital glaucoma: causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment

Congenital glaucoma is a group of conditions with abnormalities in the development of the aqueous humor outflow system. This group includes: congenital glaucoma, in which the abnormal development of the anterior chamber angle is not associated with other ocular or systemic abnormalities; congenital glaucoma with associated ocular or systemic abnormalities; secondary childhood glaucoma, in which other ocular pathologies cause impaired fluid outflow.
