Successful thyroid treatment in Israel is the result of the professional work of leading specialists in the country's medical centers. These specialists are recognized as some of the best in the world.

By the way, the survival rate of patients with thyroid cancer after treatment in Israel reaches 96%, and this is quite a serious indicator. In addition, the diagnosis of thyroid cancer in more than 30% of cases may not be confirmed at all. Therefore, patients from all over the world strive to get treatment from Israeli professors who successfully solve various problems of the endocrine system.

Thyroid Treatment Methods in Israel

Three to four days are usually enough to examine a patient in an Israeli clinic. First, they conduct an external examination of the patient, ask him about his health and the course of the disease. If the patient brought any samples for analysis, they are given to the laboratory technicians.

Next, a number of additional studies are prescribed. Among them:

  • clinical and biochemical blood tests;
  • ultrasound diagnostics of the thyroid gland;
  • isotope scanning method using radioactive iodine;
  • positron emission tomography method;
  • urine test.

You may need to consult with specialized specialists: endocrinologist, surgeon, oncologist-radiologist.

Depending on the suspected diagnosis, the patient may be offered a blood test to detect genes that provoke oncological pathology. A positive result of such a test indicates that the patient's immediate relatives have a risk of malignant degeneration of thyroid cells. If this gene is detected, it is most likely that the gland will have to be removed, since the risk of malignancy is extremely high.

However, as we have already said above, often the diagnosis made in domestic clinics may not be confirmed. This happens when a benign neoplasm is mistaken for a malignant one, when the type of malignant cells is characterized incorrectly, and also when erroneous tests are taken from another patient (unfortunately, this also happens).

In Israel, specialists are not inclined to adhere to any one generally accepted treatment regimen, as is usually the case in domestic clinics. Israeli doctors use combinations of regimens, exchange experiences and therapeutic methods with each other in order to determine the most successful protocol for a particular patient.

Of the surgical operations performed in Israeli clinics, the most common are the following:

  • partial removal of the thyroid gland (removal of only the affected lobe while preserving healthy tissue). Simultaneous removal of affected lymph nodes is possible;
  • complete removal of the thyroid gland and affected lymph nodes, followed by the administration of hormone replacement therapy.

Other additional therapeutic procedures may also be used:

  • IMRT is a method of radiation therapy that allows irradiation of a tumor without affecting healthy cells;
  • the use of radioactive iodine allows it to accumulate in the thyroid tissue, thereby destroying cancer cells;
  • The external beam irradiation method is used for anaplastic thyroid cancer. This method is often used to destroy individual malignant cells that may remain after surgery, or to irradiate metastatic cells;
  • drug therapy with hormonal drugs allows to slow down the growth of degenerated cells and prevent the recurrence of the disease, as well as maintain a stable hormonal level in the body;
  • Chemotherapy is used in combination with radiation as a treatment for anaplastic thyroid cancer.
