Hyperesthesia is a disease characterized by increased sensitivity. This concept can be used in two meanings: as excessive mental excitability and as increased sensitivity of the skin, less often - teeth. In general, doctors do not consider this condition as an independent disease. They tend to consider this condition as a secondary pathology that develops against the background of another disease. Most often, such pathology appears against the background of depression, extreme emotional suppression or apathy, as well as in some neurological diseases, in particular, inflammation of the nerves.
In order to cure this disease, it is important to know the exact cause of hyperesthesia and determine its form. Further treatment will depend on this.
For example, with a mental form of hyperesthesia, first of all, it is important to get a consultation with a psychologist, psychiatrist or psychotherapist. The consultation can find out the cause, understand your internal and external conflicts, which are inevitably present in any person. This will help reduce the level of tension, relieve stress and chronic fatigue, as a result of which the person's general condition improves, the emotional background is normalized. Often this is enough for a person to feel better, and the sensitivity and susceptibility of the body to the effects of irritants decreases.
In the case of a mental form of pathology, drug therapy may be required, during which various pharmaceuticals are used to improve the body's adaptive potential. The main treatments are adaptogens. It is important to follow a daily routine and diet. It is important to eat well and ensure proper rest, including sufficient sleep, walks in the fresh air, even alternation of work with proper sleep and active rest. It is also important to ensure spa treatment, periodic distraction from work (vacation).
In the cutaneous form, it is important first of all to completely heal all wounds, burns, and skin damage. In this case, external treatment methods are used. These can be various ointments, sprays, solutions, antiseptics, and anti-inflammatory drugs. It is also important to check the blood glucose level and, if necessary, take measures to reduce it. This is especially important in diabetes. In this case, special treatment aimed at treating this disease may be required.
If the cause of increased skin sensitivity is uremia, renal replacement therapy is performed. Hemodialysis may be required, kidney transplantation in particularly severe cases. If the body is exposed to toxic substances, detoxification therapy is immediately performed, aimed at neutralizing and removing the poison from the body. Sometimes chelating agents are used, which are substances that bind heavy metal salts and ensure their removal from the body.
Dental hyperesthesia requires a mandatory consultation with a dentist. It is important to sanitize the oral cavity. It may be necessary to use special toothpastes aimed at reducing tooth sensitivity. It is not recommended to eat hot and cold dishes. Consumption of sweets should also be limited.
Drug treatment of hyperesthesia
When treating hyperesthesia, it is very important to take precautions. They consist of the fact that before using any remedy, you must consult a doctor and consult with him. This is due to the fact that the drugs used are not safe and can have numerous complications and side effects. Thus, they can only worsen the condition, disrupt the body's adaptation, lead to numerous mental disorders and diseases. It is important to strictly adhere to the recommended dosage and treatment regimen, and not skip taking medications.
Xylitol is consumed in the amount of 0.5 grams per kg of body weight per day (1 gram supplies the body with 8 kJ). This helps to normalize metabolic processes in the body, reduce nervous and mental tension. It is important that this drug is also used in the treatment of diabetes. When using it, the sugar content in the blood is 2-2.5 times lower than when using glucose. It also prevents fatty infiltration of the kidneys and liver, normalizes metabolic processes in the subcutaneous tissue. It helps cleanse the body.
If the cause of the pathology is diabetes mellitus, sulfonamide drugs are used. They enhance the effect of insulin, biguanides, and normalize metabolic processes in the body. Glycemia decreases after 30 minutes. Their effect lasts for about 2-6 hours. Take 1 time per day, or twice a day before breakfast and after dinner. In combination therapy, both drugs are administered simultaneously with insulin. In the first days of treatment, the maximum daily dose of the drug is prescribed: for butamide - 2 grams, for bucarban - 1.5 grams, for cyclamide - 1.0 grams, for chlorpropamide - 0.5 grams. Then the dose is reduced to the optimal, maintenance dose.
Sulfanilamides are toxic, can cause vomiting, diarrhea, suppress the immune system and reduce appetite. At the same time, they act quite smoothly, rarely causing hyperglycemic conditions. After prolonged use, addiction develops, so the drugs need to be replaced with analogues. Treatment usually lasts about 2-3 months.
If the cause of the disease is an allergic reaction, it is advisable to use antihistamines. The main drug is suprastin, which significantly reduces the sensitization of the body by reducing the level of histamine in the body. Take one tablet 2-3 times a day, depending on the severity of the pathological condition.

Vitamins
In case of hyperesthesia, it is important to take vitamins, as they help normalize metabolic processes, improve the condition of the skin and internal systems of the body, and reduce sensitivity. In case of increased sensitivity of any origin, it is recommended to take vitamins in the following daily doses:
- Vitamin PP – 60 mg
- Vitamin H – 150 mg
- Vitamin C – 500 mg
- Vitamin D – 45 mcg
- Vitamin K – 360 mcg.
Physiotherapy treatment
It is used rarely, mainly in cases where concomitant pathologies are detected, or the cause of sensitivity disorder is precisely determined. Electrophoresis, ultrasound treatment, and infrared radiation are used for cutaneous hyperesthesia.
In the dental form, electrophoresis is indicated, with the help of which medicinal preparations are introduced into the body. In this case, the active substance is applied to the skin or mucous membrane. Its absorption occurs quite quickly, since it is enhanced by the action of microcurrent. At the same time, the need for substances is significantly reduced, and accordingly, the dosage and the likelihood of side effects are reduced.
For the mental form of hyperesthesia, various electrical procedures are used, as well as massage, manual therapy, therapeutic exercise, various rehabilitation procedures, and inhalations.
