Persistent serous inflammation of the mucous membrane of the auditory tube and tympanic cavity is a very serious disease, the treatment of which should be carried out by a qualified doctor. But there are a number of methods that allow you to alleviate the painful condition at home.
- To reduce pain, use poppy milk, which is prepared from 5-7 green poppy heads and a glass of fresh milk. The ingredients are mixed and boiled over low heat for 30-40 minutes. After cooling, the finished product is used to wash the diseased organ.
- Freshly squeezed basil or Kalanchoe juice is excellent for relieving pain. The remedy is instilled 2-3 times a day, 5-7 drops.
- To remove serous exudate, use a turunda with wild garlic juice. To prepare the medicine, take a teaspoon of the crushed plant and pour a glass of boiling water over it. After 20 minutes, strain through gauze and use for compresses.
- After clearing the ear of pus, to relieve the inflammatory process, you can use turundas made from a combination of plantain juice and hare cabbage 1:1.
Also, home methods of treating exudative otitis should include proper nutrition. In the daily diet, you should increase the amount of products rich in vitamin C: rose hips, hawthorn, citrus fruits.
Before using the above treatment methods, you should consult an otolaryngologist. Self-medication can aggravate the pathological process and cause serious complications.
Folk remedies
Many patients combine the therapy prescribed by the doctor with non-traditional, i.e. folk methods of treatment. For serous inflammation of the middle ear, the following recipes are used:
- Pour a couple of tablespoons of crushed walnut leaves with pre-boiled vegetable oil. The remedy should be infused in a dark place for 3-4 months. The medicine is used for compresses and treatment of the inner surface of the ear.
- Pour vegetable oil over 1-2 cloves of garlic and simmer over low heat. Pour the oil mixture into a glass jar and let it brew for 1-1.5 weeks. Put 2-3 drops of the finished medicine into the sore ear.
- Take a tablespoon of hare fat and melt it. Drop the warm fat into the diseased organ twice a day, putting a warm dry bandage on top.
- Pour 200 ml of vodka over a couple of tablespoons of fresh mint leaves and let it brew for 1-2 weeks. Strain the finished product and instill 3 drops every 3 hours for 3-5 days.
Before using folk methods, you should consult with your doctor. It should be taken into account that in case of exudative ear damage, folk remedies cannot be an alternative to drug therapy.

Treatment of exudative otitis with herbs
Phytotherapy is used in the treatment of many diseases, including serous inflammation of the middle ear. Let's consider the most effective treatment recipes for exudative otitis:
- Pour 100 ml of alcohol over a tablespoon of wormwood and let it sit in a cool, dark place for 10-15 days, shaking occasionally. Strain the resulting mixture and use it as ear drops or to soak a turunda for the diseased organ.
- Take a head of onion and bake it in the oven so that the onion releases juice. Carefully squeeze out all the vegetable liquid through gauze and drip into the sore ear. For treatment, you can use the juice of fresh onion, soaking a turunda in it and inserting it into the ear canal for 1-2 hours.
- Pour a glass of water over 5-7 bay leaves and simmer over low heat. After boiling, wrap the pot with the decoction well with a towel and let it brew for 4-6 hours. Strain the finished medicine and instill 8-10 drops 2-3 times a day.
- Pour boiling water over a teaspoon of chamomile flowers and let it brew for 30-60 minutes. Strain and use to rinse the ear. The medicinal liquid should be warm, as too hot or cold will increase the pain. Chamomile infusion has an antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effect.
- Grind 2 tablespoons of sorrel roots thoroughly. Pour 500 ml of boiling water over the plant material, simmer over low heat, evaporating the liquid. As soon as the decoction has boiled down by ½, it is considered ready. The medicine is filtered and used for rinsing and warm compresses.
Before using the above herbs, you should make sure that there are no allergic reactions to the herbal ingredients and consult your doctor.
Kalanchoe for exudative otitis
A plant remedy with medicinal properties, used in various fields of medicine, is Kalanchoe.
Useful properties of the plant:
- Anti-inflammatory.
- Disinfectants.
- Bactericidal.
- Antibacterial.
- Wound healing.
- Hemostatic.
- Antioxidant.
In case of exudative otitis, Kalanchoe relieves inflammation and helps to remove accumulated secretion. The plant also has a detrimental effect on pathogenic flora.
To alleviate the painful condition, it is necessary to thoroughly wash a couple of Kalanchoe leaves and squeeze out the juice. A cotton swab is moistened in the resulting plant liquid and placed in the ear canal. If there is purulent discharge, then an alcohol tincture is prepared. To do this, the juice is mixed with vodka or alcohol (no more than 40% of the total volume) and infused in a dark, cool place for 10-14 days. The tincture is instilled into the ear 2-3 drops 1-2 times a day.
Before using the plant, you should consider the presence of contraindications. Kalanchoe is prohibited in case of allergic reactions, during pregnancy, with tumor lesions of the body and low blood pressure.
Homeopathy
One of the alternative means for treating purulent inflammation of the mucous membrane of the auditory tube and tympanic cavity is homeopathy. The means are selected individually, taking into account the nature of the disease and the characteristics of the patient's body.
- Aconitum – acute pain in the ears, feverish state, increased sensitivity to loud sounds and noise. Dry cough, nasal congestion, thirst.
- Belladonna – severe ear pain and migraine, inflammation of the throat and tonsils. Hyperemia of the skin of the face, dilated pupils, high body temperature.
- Ferrumphosphoricum – pulsating pain in the ears, frequent nosebleeds.
- Mercurius – acute and chronic otitis with severe pain and serous discharge. Ringing and pulsation in the ears, sore throat, bad breath.

- Chamomilla – acute pain in the ear, increased sensitivity to touch, irritability. Noise in the ears, the cheek on the side of the affected organ is hyperemic.
- Magnesium phosphoricum – intense spasmodic pain.
If the alternative remedy is chosen correctly, then the improvement of the patient's condition with exudative otitis is observed on the 2-3 day of therapy. The dosage of the drugs and the specifics of their use are determined by the homeopathic doctor.
