Treatment of a brain cyst is a complex procedure that is performed after diagnosis of the disease. A cyst can be diagnosed in both adults and children. Let's look at the main methods of diagnosing the disease, symptoms and methods of effective therapy.

Treatment begins after diagnosis of the disease. The presence of a tumor can be determined using ultrasound, MRI and CT diagnostics. A cyst is a bubble filled with a liquid mass that can be localized in any area of the skull. Depending on the location of the tumor, the patient has certain complaints, but most often the disease is asymptomatic. If a cyst is diagnosed, it is necessary to follow all the doctor's recommendations and, if necessary, agree to surgery, since life depends on it.

In some patients, doctors diagnose a brain cyst that does not require therapy. But if the disease progresses, urgent surgical intervention is necessary. The following methods are used to remove the cyst: endoscopic surgery, cystocystrenostomy, shunting or excision. Surgery is necessary only in the case of growth of the cystic neoplasm and if the tumor causes a number of painful symptoms.

Treatment of arachnoid cyst

Treatment of arachnoid cyst of the brain is the treatment of a volumetric formation. This type of tumor is a benign cavity that is formed as a result of the splitting of the membrane containing fluid, which is similar in composition to the cerebrospinal fluid. Arachnoid cyst can occur with other diseases or as a complication of diseases.

Cysts are treated with surgical intervention. So, today the following methods of therapy are used:

  • Endoscopic surgery.
  • Tumor excision.
  • Bypass operations.

The main indications for surgical treatment of arachnoid cysts of the brain are progressive symptoms. Symptoms manifest themselves in the form of convulsive paroxysms, development of focal symptoms, hemorrhages, cerebrospinal fluid circulation disorders, and others.

Treatment of retrocerebellar cyst

Treatment of retrocerebellar cyst of the brain begins after diagnosis of the disease and study of symptoms. If the disease is asymptomatic, it does not require surgical intervention. In this case, the patient must regularly visit a neurologist to monitor the size of the tumor. If the tumor is accompanied by painful symptoms and increases in size, then therapy involves surgery.

Before prescribing therapy, the patient undergoes an examination. This allows identifying the causes of the tumor, choosing the best option (use of drugs, surgical intervention) and assessing the risks of the chosen therapy. Three types of surgical intervention are used to treat a retrocerebellar cyst:

  • Bypass surgery is a procedure that allows fluid from the tumor to be distributed to other reservoirs in the body where fluid is normal.
  • Endoscopy is a modern and very safe method. An endoscope is inserted into the skull to remove fluid. The only drawback of endoscopy is that it does not allow tumors inside the brain to be removed.
  • Craniotomy (neurosurgical operation) is the most risky operation, but with its help it is possible to remove not only the contents of the tumor, but also the walls of the tumor, which ensures a complete recovery.

Treatment of cerebrospinal fluid cyst

Treatment of cerebrospinal fluid cysts of the brain is carried out by medical and surgical methods. The tumor occurs as a result of inflammatory processes, hemorrhages in the meninges, after strokes and surgical interventions.

Treatment of cerebrospinal fluid cysts by surgical method is carried out according to such indications as: progressive convulsive paroxysms, occurrence of arachnoid cysts, disorders of cerebrospinal fluid circulation, etc. Endoscopic surgery is most often used, but in the absence of indications, bypass surgery (microneurosurgical) is used.

Treatment of lacunar cyst

Treatment of a lacunar cyst of the brain is a long process, which consists of drug therapy and surgical intervention. But before starting therapy, the doctor conducts a number of diagnostic procedures. A lacunar cyst of the brain is diagnosed using computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging.

The tumor may appear due to injuries, blows, bruises, hormonal imbalances in the body, congenital predisposition to the disease and a number of other reasons that only a doctor can determine. If the neoplasm does not cause painful symptoms, then its therapy consists of regular diagnostics by a neurologist to monitor the patient's condition.

Treatment of cerebellar cyst

Treatment of cerebellar cysts of the brain depends entirely on the causes that led to the disease. Therapy is aimed at resolving the formed adhesions. For this purpose, at the beginning of the treatment therapy, patients are prescribed powerful drugs - "Karipain" and "Longidaza". If the tumor appeared due to autoimmune processes in the body or infectious diseases, then the patient is prescribed a course of anti-inflammatory therapy to eliminate the source of infection.

Surgical treatment is performed according to a number of indications. The operation is performed in the presence of convulsions, signs of hemorrhage into the tumor cavity, severe movement coordination disorders, and progressive development of focal symptoms. Regardless of the type of therapy, the prognosis is usually positive, and the disease can be completely cured.

Treatment of subarachnoid cyst

Treatment of subarachnoid cyst of the brain is most often carried out without surgical intervention. But if the disease is accompanied by progression of painful symptoms, seizures and hemorrhages into the tumor cavity, then surgery is the first step to restoring brain health.

During surgical intervention, the endoscopic method is used. This method of surgical intervention has a minimum number of postoperative complications and is low-traumatic. That is, the recovery process after such therapy is much faster and more successful.

Drug treatment

Drug treatment of brain cysts refers to conservative therapy methods. This type of therapy is aimed at eliminating the causes of the tumor. Strong drugs effectively restore blood supply, dissolve adhesions, and have antiviral, antibacterial, and immunomodulatory effects.

If drug treatment of a brain cyst is ineffective, surgical intervention methods are used. Most often, endoscopic operations are performed, which do not cause complications during recovery and rehabilitation. If endoscopy is not performed for a number of indications, the patient will undergo bypass or neurosurgical intervention.

Treatment of pseudocyst of the brain

The main difference between a pseudocyst and a cyst is the presence of an internal epithelial layer. Ultrasound and MRI are used for diagnosis. It is also necessary to undergo a thorough examination by a neurologist. After examination and diagnosis, the doctor prescribes a course of therapy. Treatment of a pseudocyst of the brain is drug therapy and regular examination by a neurologist. Thanks to this, the patient can get rid of headaches and other symptoms associated with the disease.

Cost of treatment

The cost of treating a brain cyst depends on the type of cyst, its location, the patient's age and other individual characteristics. The cost also depends on the type of therapy. For example, with drug therapy, the main expenses go to purchasing drugs, consulting a neurologist and conducting diagnostics using ultrasound, MRI and computed tomography. If the patient is prescribed removal of a brain cyst, that is, surgical intervention, the cost can be from €2,000 and more. The exact cost can be found out after undergoing an examination, diagnostics and choosing a suitable method.

Treatment of a brain cyst is a dangerous and complicated procedure, the outcome of which may affect the patient's life. It is carried out only after a full examination and study of the symptoms that accompany the disease, and must be carried out with the participation of a qualified neurologist and neurosurgeon.
