With subluxation of the lower jaw, the joints are displaced either in the upper part of the joint (disco-temporal subluxation) or in the lower (discoid subluxation). In the first case, the head of the lower jaw is displaced forward along with the intraarticular disk, and in the second case, without the disk, slipping from it. In this case, the disk first bends, and then straightens, which is accompanied by a click or a crunch. Essentially, in this case there is a chronic recurrent subluxation.
What causes subluxation of the lower jaw?
The cause of subluxation of the lower jaw may be rheumatic or gouty lesions of the joint (as a result, the depth of the mandibular fossa gradually decreases), a change in the previous bite altitude due to loss or abnormal dentition of the teeth.
