Bunions are a problem for women, not men. The reason is completely different physiology. Nature has awarded men with sinewy legs, with strong tendons and joints. In addition, men do not wear heels. Therefore, they do not have problems with bunions protruding from the big toes. And women, until such problems worsen, need good prevention of bunions.
Endocrine disorders
Violations in the ratio and production of hormones are a common problem for the weaker sex. This is especially relevant:
- during puberty (for teenage girls),
- for pregnant women (they are going through hormonal changes in their body),
- for nursing mothers (they deprive their bodies of many useful substances, and it is difficult for them to recover due to an insufficient vitamin menu),
- for women in menopause (the production of many hormones simply stops or is too low to cover the body's need for some hormones)
- for those who take contraceptives containing hormones
- for those who take hormonal drugs without a doctor's supervision
To restore hormonal balance and thus prevent the appearance of bunions, it is very important to take the following steps.
- Contact an endocrinologist for consultation and examination of hormonal levels.
- With the help of a doctor, choose the optimal method for restoring hormonal balance (hormone therapy)
- Create an optimal daily routine that includes: getting enough sleep, avoiding overexertion (physical and mental), and playing sports.
- Choose the right contraceptives with the optimal ratio of hormones and find out whether they are compatible with the vitamins you take and the menu you use. It has been scientifically proven that most hormonal disorders occur due to uncontrolled use of medications and contraceptives, as well as an unbalanced menu.
Hereditary predisposition
In 30% of cases, bunions or, as they are called, bone spurs, occur due to the quirks of genetics. If your mother, grandmother, and aunt suffered from bone spurs, then you will most likely have them too. Therefore, to prevent this deviation, you need the following.
Visit a traumatologist or orthopedist every six months to detect the onset of a foot defect in time.
During the day it is enough to move, but do not overload the feet. If you do not move at all, the foot will bend poorly, the ligaments and tendons will also be rigid, and the foot can easily be injured during a seemingly innocent fall. Exercises for foot flexibility and strength are very good.
Pay attention to the slightest pain, discomfort in the area of the big toe or foot in general. If there is even a little discomfort, there are calluses, corns on the feet, the skin of the fingers begins to swell and shine - it is possible that a hidden inflammatory process is developing, visit an orthopedic doctor. This will help to detect diseases associated with the appearance of a bone on the finger, at the very beginning of their development.
Excess weight
If you suffer from being overweight, this increases the likelihood of not only cardiovascular diseases, but also the occurrence of unpleasant painful bones on the big toes. There are at least two main reasons for this. The first is a violation of blood flow, as a result of which the feet do not receive enough nutrients and oxygen, which they feed on through the blood. Because of this, the foot can become deformed, swell, and hurt.
The second major reason for the growth of bunions is that too much weight is pressing on the feet. The feet already bear the heaviest load of all body parts combined. And if this weight is significantly increased, the small joints of the foot are not able to withstand this weight constantly.
They become deformed, and along with them, the ligaments and tendons stretch, muscle tissue can atrophy or stretch, and become less elastic. The big toe suffers first, since it is one of the main points of support for the entire foot. And here you go – an unsightly and uncomfortable bone.
To cope with this situation, you need the following:
- Visit a nutritionist-endocrinologist and find out the reasons for excess weight. If this is an incorrect menu, then adjust it. In particular, include enough vitamin E and dairy products in the menu. Milk contains a lot of calcium in its natural form.
- Together with vitamin E, taking calcium helps strengthen bones and joints. If the cause of excess weight is a hormonal imbalance, you need to undergo a course of hormone therapy.
- Visit a therapist and find out if you have any concomitant heart or vascular diseases. If so, start treating them.
- Along the way, calculate the physical load for your weight, age and profession and don’t be lazy, giving yourself the opportunity to get rid of excess weight.
Uncomfortable, poor quality shoes
Shoes not only affect how you look, but also the comfort of your entire body. It has been scientifically proven that correct or incorrect posture also affects how the load is distributed on your legs.
If a woman abuses wearing high heels, and also wears shoes with narrow toes, she deprives her foot of the necessary support. This deforms the foot. Uncomfortable and disgusting bones form on the feet, which then will not allow you to fit into fashionable shoes, or any shoes at all. What should be done for prevention?
- Buy leather shoes with an orthopedic insole. It will reduce the load on your feet and allow them to support your entire body weight more stably.
- If you do sports, such as running, your knees and feet bear a huge load. Therefore, to soften the impact of the sole on a hard surface, you need a thick sole with a shock-absorbing effect.
- To give your feet a rest from heels, it is very useful to massage your feet and walk barefoot - around the apartment, in summer - on the beach, on the grass. This will relieve tired feet and provide them with a good blood flow thanks to a natural massage. The bone on your feet will not grow.
Not enough movement
A sedentary lifestyle (especially if you also eat poorly, smoke and suffer from excess weight) leads to the formation of bones on the big toe. Blood flow becomes weak, a lot of "bad" cholesterol appears in the blood, due to which blood vessels become clogged, swelling appears in the legs, and the feet bear increased load. It is necessary to exercise the feet, give them the opportunity to work with the prospect of flexibility and strengthening the joints. How to achieve this?
Master the dance steps
When doing aerobics or simply dancing in the morning as a warm-up, include in your program elements that contain a slow squat, then you need to sit down and stand up on your toes, doing a "rocking motion" from toe to heel. This strengthens the foot and makes it very flexible, the ligaments and tendons are also strengthened, this prevents the development of bones on the legs.
Not everyone will be able to do these dance moves the first time, so before doing them, you can do some warm-up exercises. This will be an excellent preventative measure against the occurrence of bunions on your feet and will strengthen your feet at the same time.
Starting position: place your feet shoulder-width apart. Then spread your toes and dig them into the floor like a bird of prey. From this position, rise up on your toes and begin to squat, squatting as deeply as possible. Stand up slowly – now you have stretched and warmed up your feet. Excellent prevention of bunions!
