Preparation for ultrasound of the spleen
- Preparation of the patient. The patient should not take food and water for 8 hours before the test. If fluid intake is necessary to prevent dehydration, clean water can be given. If the symptoms are acute, carry out the test immediately. Children, if clinical conditions permit, you must refrain from eating food and water for 3 hours before the study.
Acutely ill patients (for example, with trauma, sudden pain in the abdomen, fever in the postoperative period), preliminary preparation is not carried out.
- Position of the patient. The patient must first lie on his back, and then on his right side.
Optionally apply gel on the left half of the lower part of the chest, on the upper abdomen and left side.
The patient should take a deep breath and hold his breath while inhaling.
- Select the sensor. For adults, a sector sensor of 3.5 MHz is used, a sector sensor of 5 MHz is used for children and thin adults. It is desirable to use a small sector sensor.
- Setting the sensitivity level of the device. Start the study by placing the sensor centrally on the upper abdomen (below the xiphoid process). Tilt the sensor to the right side until you get a picture of the liver; Adjust the sensitivity until the optimum image is obtained.
