Muscle pain during a cold is a fairly common and widespread phenomenon. There are several simple ways to cope with these unpleasant sensations.

What to do if you have muscle pain due to a cold?

A hot foot bath with one or two tablespoons of mustard powder added will help relieve discomfort and muscle pain from a cold. After the procedure, you should put on woolen socks; you can also put dry mustard plasters in them overnight. Hot tea with lemon, honey or herbal infusions immediately after the procedure will provide an additional therapeutic effect.

Paracetamol or acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin) will help relieve muscle pain and reduce other associated symptoms. Alternatively, there is a wide range of cold remedies in the form of powder for dilution, which include both paracetamol and ascorbic acid plus phenylephrine hydrochloride and pheniramine maleate.

If your muscles hurt due to a cold, folk remedies can also help alleviate the condition: juniper and bay leaf ointment, sweet clover flower infusion, thyme tea, onion and garlic. Vitamin therapy, especially vitamin C, activates the body's defenses, which promotes a speedy recovery. Rose hips and black currants are natural sources of vitamin C.

Accompanying symptoms of muscle pain during a cold are nasal congestion, runny nose, sore throat, and fever. The severity of these symptoms can vary from mild to quite severe. As part of a comprehensive therapy to eliminate muscle pain in the presence of accompanying symptoms, antiseptic drugs are used - lozenges, sprays for irrigation of the mucous membrane of the throat, nasal sprays and ointments.

Since the source of colds are viruses, it would be advisable to take antiviral drugs (amizon, anaferon, arbidol). Immune-boosting agents will help to overcome the disease faster and normalize the condition. Echinacea tincture or syrup helps to strengthen the body's defenses.

A good way to reduce pain is considered to be a massage using natural honey. Honey removes toxins from the body, honey massage improves blood circulation, after such a procedure there is a powerful warming effect and muscle pain during a cold recedes. It is quite simple to carry out such a massage: evenly apply a layer of honey to the surface of the palms, then press them firmly against the patient's back for a few seconds, continue the procedure for five to seven minutes. After completing the massage, the back should be washed with warm water and covered with a warm blanket.

In combination with massage, aromatic oils have a good effect in relieving muscle pain during a cold. The most commonly used oils are eucalyptus, sage, fir, tea tree, and lavender. Oils can be rubbed onto temples, wrists, or the neck area, and can also be used for inhalation. They have not only antibacterial but also relaxing properties, which has a positive effect on the general condition.

Rubbing with anti-cold balms also helps well - Doctor Mom, Linkas, Zvezdochka. Thanks to the active substances contained in their composition, the balms have a distracting, local anesthetic effect, as well as an anti-inflammatory and antiseptic effect. The ointment is applied to painful areas and a warm bandage is put on top. If the symptoms are pronounced, the balm can be used for inhalation.

Another effective way to relieve muscle pain during a cold is to visit a sauna. In a sauna, under the influence of high air temperature, blood supply to tissues improves, and the body's protective functions are activated. Remember that visiting a sauna is strictly contraindicated at elevated body temperature. Put on a felt hat on your head, do not wet your hair, and drink hot tea or herbal infusion after the sauna.
